Awesome job, ive been loving doing this deep water spj recently. A little fun fact, those aren't actually vermillion rockfish theyre called sunset rockfish. Verms only live up to around 450-500 feet of water max, everything deeper is called a sunset. Its confusing because they look the same, taste the same, have the same limits and regulations, but are actually different species of rockfish just based off of depth.
A live bait you can't control or always tell what's going on at the end of the line. Slow-pitch gives you control over the action of the bait, and you feel everything going on at the end of the line.
Nice video! I just recently got a Ocea Jigger F custom 1000. What rod would you pair this with and is it enough reel to rock fish at the depth you were fishing?
1000 might be a bit small for deep water rockfish. I suggest you spool it with 20lb braid, and pair it with something like shimano game type slow J medium action.
Thin rod is always my favourite. It has a lot more fun then using thick rod. Check out Japanese fishing, the theory for Asian is to use thinner lighter gear to catch fish as possible. i think this rod can handle PE3-4 , means the most which is about 60lbs. So my estimation for your answer is yes. Even if wrong, it wont be too far off.
