So, in the video when I'm explaining about braid line choice, I make a slip up and call PE Braid polyurethane... When in fact it stands for Polyethtylene... My bad, must of still had work on my mind as I am a carpenter for a living. Thanks to BucktailBob for pointing this out :)

Very informative. I love learning about new ways to catch em. BTW, the line you’re talking about (PE) stands for polyethylene not polyurethanes (which is a type of varnish).

Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. Far to often we over think things and make them more complicated than they should be. I believe, most things in life, broken down to their most basic components are not too overwhelming. I could go on for hours about Slow Pitch and still have a ton of areas not covered. Thanks again for your support and always being here, I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Great info Heath!!! Slow pitch is the craze but I haven’t bought into it yet. I enjoy spinner setups as opposed to conventional. I particularly appreciated your recommendation as to the jig weight to depth ratio. Thanks for all your hard work.

Thanks a bazillion for watching and sharing your perspective. When I first got into SPJ... I used a spinner I already had, a Penn Battle 5000. Put a top shot of 300 yards of braid on it and started figuring it out. It was a pretty undiscovered and untested method at the time, but I knew it worked because I had seen it work. Understanding jigs weights and styles is where a lot of confusion lies. Once you get dialed in on depth, current & wind... Jig selection becomes less of a guessing game, but we all still make funny choices every once in a while. Thanks for always being here, I truly appreciate your support. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Heath, great step by step instructions. I really wanted to try slow pitch jigging this summer but it's not going to happen in Missouri. When I come back to New Jersey for a visit, I hope to go fishing with my friend in Ocean City, NJ. Maybe next summer . Hope the family is well and congrats to Avi on turning 18. Take care and good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey, I really do hope you get a chance in the future to give it a try. It's super addicting.... always keep you coming back for more. Plus, when nothing else is working, slow jigging seems to always turn the trip around. Good luck with the move, hope it goes smoothly. Avi is a true role model. The day he turned 18, I signed him up for 401k at work, he's dumping 25% of his check in every week. Hope all is well, with you and the family. Take care :)

Thanks for the video fella, quick question, what do you use to attach the jig to the ring? I've lost a few big fish recently using clips and keen to find something more reliable. Cheers
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
My jig is attached to a split ring, and that is attached to a solid ring that is on the end of my leader

Do you back your reels with mono before spooling with braid? I have heard it helps prevent line digging in to the spool.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 года назад
Not for SPJ.... it's all braid... Haven't had the digging in problem, but I have heard of it. My planer trolling set is backed with mono and a 300 yd top shot of 89 lb braid.

I am a new subsciber and watched your video assembling a slow pitch jig. Instaed of using a separate solid ring to attach your main line, I have been using a small ball bearing swivel which eliminates any twist while jigging. Just curious if you have tried this method and your thoughts.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 года назад
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Yes, I've used the ball bearing swivels to help lessen the line twist. Honestly, I've been doing slow pitch for years, and I haven't really seen the difference. I like the solid ring, because it's less hardware, a tab bit more stealthy, for me personally. I'm usually using a conventional reel, which retrieve line in a straight fashion, instead of a spinner, which wraps the line back on to the spool. I believe most line twist develops, from either incorrectly spooling, or reeling against drag and retrieving the line. But we all have our own opinions on the issue. I say, if you're getting a lot of line twist, definitely use the swivel. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel, I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Great informative video and simple descriptively presentation. Question. The Accurate Fury Boss 600N reel you are using, is it a single speed reel? Question. Are there any advantages to using a 2 speed reel over a single speed reel. Or is there an advantage of using a single speed reel over a 2 speed reel?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 года назад
Thanks a boat load for watching and asking some great questions. The reel I use, the Accurate Boss Fury 600N is a single speed reel with a 4:1 gear ratio. There's no difference in using a 2 speed. I used to have a Daiwa Saltiga 2 speed and I found the lower speed which was like 1:1 (was supposed to have more power) was useless, I always kept it in high speed, which was 6:1. That's my experience with the 2 speed reels, I really think it's a sales point gimmick made to make you spend more money on a feature that will (1) not be used & (2) is another point of probable mechanical failure. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel, I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

When you do occasionally go out deeper, do you switch to 20lb test?

No... I only have the one setup.... but if I had more I'd probably go with 15 or 20
@calebbrown918
@calebbrown918 Год назад
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Got it. Yeah exactly why I am asking, as I am only going to have one as well. So does the 30 do well enough then when going deeper? Wondering if I should spool up my one setup with 30 or if I should just go 20. It’ll be rare that I need the 20. Or idk if you can buy extra spools and just swap them?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
30 is good for up to about 500... if your gonna consistently go deeper like 800, I'd go lighter definitely, it will work in shallow also

Heath I have barrel swivels on all my jigs. How should I attach to the solid ring ?

No solid ring if you are using a barrel swivel. Just attached the swivel straight to the split ring that holds yourr assist hooks.

Hi Heath, I’m not sure if you know the shimano flat fall jigs? My question is are they considered to be slow pitch jigs? So I would use this type of rod when fishing them? Thanks again.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 года назад
Hi Rick, thanks for watching and asking a great question. So, slow pitch jigs are also commonly refered to as flat fall jigs, so yes, you can use these with your slow pitch setup and treat them the same as you would, because they are slow pitch jigs. Shimano was one of the first major manufacturers of slow jigs, so they're technology and finishes on the product are top notch. Hope this helps.
