Thanks all. Watching Benny talk us through the technique while he was doing it was super helpful. I've been a convert for over a year now and even with my traditional gear and my not-so-perfect technique I've been very happy with the results in San Diego. I'm definitely going to put Benny's tips into practice next time out. Much appreciated!

The parabolic action on Benny’s rod looks fantastic and as expected his form is superb. Those stiffer rods certainly has a place and certain fish prefer that tone. Have you all considered the benefits of a small spanker sail? Even in 300ft it would be of great use.

Very informative video... we just happened into slow pitch jigging after a charter we took. We opted to get a few rods and reels and fell in love with this technique. We have not done a ton of reef fishing with it yet but have had a ton of success on the blackfin tuna. Long story short we just bought another setup today from your shop (jj pro jigger plus power 3 and the boss valiant jj edition) was time to upgrade from the gomexus reels and goofish rods we were using which we liked by the way.... What do you think catches more fish, slow or fast.. it seems like slow catches more... What do you think.
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 3 года назад
Hey Truth, That is a tough one my friend and a great question. They both catch fish. There are some guys out there that are amazing at high speed jigging and definitely catch a lot of fish. I can say that for bottom fishing SPJ is more effective. When it comes to pelagic fish HSJ works very well. The big factor that comes into play between the two is sustainability or endurance. You tend to get wore out quickly HSJ vs. SPJ you can maintain for long periods at a time. So while your buddy is taking a break from HSJ and you are still at the gunnel slow jigging who is more likely to catch more fish?................Just Sayin................Johnny

Can you do that rod under my elbow with a rail rod or does it have to be a light jigging rod like what you have?
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 2 года назад
You can...but when jigging all day it is nice to have a light weight set up for stamina purposes. Also the idea of Slow Pitch Jigging is to impart a slow action on the jig that imitates a wounded bait fish. By having a rod with a soft tip it assist in creating a more lifelike action.

@bennyortiz2770
@bennyortiz2770 3 года назад
The reason is because we're fishing from a drifting boat. When I give instruction or do a seminar, there's only so much that you can convey through words that are difficult to translate into practice sometimes. I'm more concerned when teaching to try to break habits that are engrained in folks (like reeling on the way down) so that they don't completely take all the slack out of their line, and the jig doesn't work. Think of it this way - as you cast up current from a drifting boat you're going to have more line out than if you dropped directly down from a stationary boat. As the boat drifts toward the spot where the jig landed, you will eventually find that you have too much line out. As I'm jigging, I'm feeling where my jig is relative to the bottom, and what kind of responsive action I'm getting. If I realize that I need to take out some of the slack line, you'll see me reel on the down stroke. Also, on occasion, even though it may appear that I'm reeling on the down stroke, effectively I'm not because I've already felt the jig bottom out - so it's really just a matter of getting ready for next pitch.

@JohnnyJigsTV

Do you recommend PG or Hg ocea jigger if I'm fishing 150- 250 fow ?

Hey Josh..I would go pg for sure.

@@JohnnyJigsTV Thanks! And PG would also be ok for higher speed jigging?
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 3 года назад
The pg would be great for big tunas or deep water grouper that can rock you up. Other wise I would prefer the HG for creating a better pitch on the jig.

Assist reeling not sportsman like. If you fish for a living ok, but if your a sportsman no. Please promote reel fishing! Great video content expert for the Assist reeling.

Hello what depirence. Slow rod to fast rod
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 2 года назад
Hi Edward, A high speed rod will be much stiffer than slow pitch. When high speed jigging you will want a faster punchy movement imitating a fleeing bait fish hints why you will want a rod that has a stiff tip. Slow pitch is exactly as it sounds. You are imitating the slow movement and fall of a wounded bait fish. A soft tip will assist in creating a more lifelike imitation.

I'm way to scared to scale my line down to 10lb test. Was that a 500g jig being used on 10lb test?
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 3 года назад
Yeah it was a bit nerve wrecking. Any touch of the line and you break off. It's a high quality line with over 20# breaking strength. Rick did pull up the big Golden with ir.
@williamkennedy6423
@williamkennedy6423 3 года назад
@@JohnnyJigsTV That's a minimum $35+ jig, unless its some China junk. I'll probably scale down to a 20lb/PE 1 to maybe 1.5 class. What brand were you all running? I'm all for a 10lb diameter that breaks at 20lbs.

Yes, It is starting to take off on the the West Side. I have been communicating with several guys in California and Oregon who are crushing Yellowtail and Rockfish on the jig. I would say it is more popular on my side for now, but it is going to be huge everywhere soon.
