Slow Running 1.5hp Fairbanks Z Engine

This is an old video of a 1.5hp Fairbanks Z engine that I acquired a few years ago. This video is from shortly after I initially got it running from having sat several years. It is a throttle-governed type rather than the classic hit-and-miss but a great engine anyways. It is a strong runner and has a good, punctual note. The smoke coming from the exhaust is because of extra oil in the cylinder that was added to help revive the engine and free things up. Enjoy!

I have the same engine. How did you get to run slow?

Long story short, the elderly man I bought the engine from had replaced the butterfly valve and put it in backwards by mistake. So with the governor spring jamming it shut and it not fitting the passage correctly, it happened to let by just the right amount of air to run like this consistently. Sometimes if you got the mixer set just right, I could even get it to fire every other time like it briefly did near the end of the video and it would run even slower. I flipped it back around though so the governor would work correctly and it no longer will run as slow. Makes for a good party trick though.

@@TheIronRanch That is a great trick, going to give it a try. I saw a video of a guy with a 1 1/2 hp with 3hp flywheels it ran sooo slow
