Considering the slugcats live in colonies, have a family structure (first survivor cutscene) and the babies can have different colors from their parents (this eliminates the theory of asexual reproduction since it's not an identical clone), I think the most likely scenario is the first or second one. They might be hermaphrodites like...slugs (lol), so there would be no sexual difference between individuals. Maybe they also lay eggs like slugs, either in clusters or more likely just one or two.
i may be wrong but i believe the devs did confirm that Artificer is confirmed Female and Monk, Survivor and Gourmand are Male We know Artificer because: pups We know Monk and Survivor because in all promotional material they are spoken off as brothers in specific not sisters or siblings Gourmand i dont remember but i believe that was also canon Lastly i think Spearmaster (and maybe Hunter) are both canonically non-binary due to them probably never being intended to have a gender to reporduce as their purpose was both times just to deliver messages. NSH definetly didnt have time to design Hunter with a gender if they couldnt even be bothered to make Hunter not have super cancer. SRS maybe gave Speermaster a gender but egh not sure
When a mommy and a daddy slugcat love each other very much, they go on an expedition together and only return when they find a random pup chilling in a shelter that they take on as their own child
New mod idea: Because Seven Red Suns forgot to patch the reproduction abilities of spearmaster, there is a slight chance that creating a spear will spawn a pup instead. You can still chuck it at the enemies alike Gourmand's "Strong Delivery" mod, killing them with blunt force
POV: Spearmaster is getting chased by a bunch of red lizards and king vultures. They make a spear and throw it at the enemies, but then quickly realize that it was, indeed, not a spear and that they have thrown a child to it's demise.
@@deboraluz27 SRS probably notes down a reminder to get rid of this mutation when Spearmaster is back from his mission (And to teach him about morality and empathy)
This is all logical and biologically correct, but what are the exact requirements for the first type of reproduction? You have to give them a specific food item or have enough shelters so that the current Slugcats can create a new Slugcat? I haven't played Raincraft for a while so I'm not sure......
Given that the slugcats are quite intelligent creatures who do live in organised shelters, I'd say it's fair to assume you have to give both of them around 3~4 pips worth of food to hold above their max, and make sure there's enough shelters nearby.
Just giving them batflies usually works, but sometimes you need any meat, scavenger flesh or blue fruit for special rare variants like Hunter, Artificer and Saint!
I assume the same way a certain type of slug reproduce, they stab. Like literally form a spear like the spearmaster, and the one who gets stabbed is the mom.
The last one makes me think that Spearmaster was not supposed to have the ability to reproduce but nature found a way around it, causing a slugpup to come out of its tail instead of a spear and scare the heck out of them Like the little guy was expecting something long, sharp, and pointy, not squishy and rather loud
I've got two theories for how slugcats go about caring for their eggs/pups. My first theory is that they only lay a single egg at a time and carry it with them as they forage, like what Inv does. Unlike bird eggs, these ones don't require heat to incubate, and so may still hatch even if the parents lose them (either by getting eaten or from a panicked escape). The pups you find in game are a result of when this happens. The other one is that they lay huge clusters of tiny eggs, which aren't cared for at all. After hatching, an overwhelming percentage of them don't make it to being the pups you see in game, and after finding a pup that has managed to survive, an unrelated adult slugcat like the survivor takes on the role of mother to them.
Slugcats leave behind residue. When enough residue is together it forms into a slup. The only time enough residue is together naturally is in the shelter after hibernation. This is why slups are only found in shelters.
"Today's season is the mating season for our small little slugcats and today we found two slugcats who have accepted eachother as their rightful mate. Watch as they make a slugpup in mere seconds." "Today we have found an egg, this egg seems to be ready to hatch into a very strange mysterious creature which is similar to a slugpup." "We have found a slugcat that is staring blankly into space, this only means one thing. It's ready to make a slugpup. Watch as it stretches a small head out of its body and pops it out of itself to make a child." "We have found the messenger who seems to be ready to produce a spear, but instead they create a small slugpup and place it on the ground. The pup starts screaming in fear and the messenger also screams in fear from the child."
@@Volcano22207 "It has been a full week since we last witnessed the Spear-creating Slug-Cat bring life into this world. They have yet to stop screaming."
Maybe someone mentioned this idea before, but i haven't seen it yet. What if slugcats reproduce more like normal slugs and snails, creating calcareous or chitinous "love darts"? They look an awful lot like Spearmaster's spears, and that may explain both HOW this slugcat forms spears and WHY it is seen as a... kinda freaky one. Imagine what it must look like to normal slugcats. Poor guy.
The utter disbelief in Spearmaster's face when they throw the pup out of their tail hits like feeling an itch and scratching it only to find a spider crawling up your leg
In a case of divergent evolution I believe that slugcats and lantern mice share common ancestors as due to 5P referring to Rivulet as a "Wet mouse". Which makes me believe that lantern mice ancestors initially adapted to living under super-structures whilst the slugcat's adapted to living further out from them. Both seperating from a point where the "tube-worm" ancestors evolved enough to have mammalian attributes.
@@TrixterTheFemboy there is a really weird image in files of the survivor with another head out of him, just like in the video I dunno what this is but it's funny lol
The first makes sense, the second explains why the slugpups in invenot's campaign have singularity bomb explosions, the third explains nothing, and the fourth is wawawawaaaaawawawaaaaaaaaa
im happy to see that my gregnant emote has evolved into first susceptibletomitosis, then susceptibletocloning, and now this, i regret everything as i wish to be unmade, please, i am begging you
perhaps the slugpup just snuck in there like an idiot thinking it was some kind of goofy lookin shelter made for lots of slugpups at once, and then spearmaster tried to grab a spear and grabbed a child
*Theories proposed in this video* 0:00 - Minecraft style 0:13 - Hatched from eggs 0:20 - Budding 0:28 - that one species of frog, you know the one that trypophobiacs hate
I like to imagine its most likely some sort of egg, that could explain why so many slugpups can be found just chilling in random shelters. A slugcat leaving a egg in a comfortable spot thats safe does not seem unlikely.
The way Pebbles will refer to Slugcats as rodents, it makes me believe they reproduce like a normal mammal. I never liked the Idea that they were absolutely unquestionably more slug than anything, when its more likely that they're a mix between slug and mammal.
Spearmaster: *struggling, thinking it to be an extra thick spear* *chucks the "spear" away* Pup: *looks kinda dead* Spearmaster: ... wha- Pup: daaaaaaaa- Spearmaster: WHAT IS THAT!?
"YO THAT AIN'T NO SPEAR! How the heck THAT get in there????? Did the thing crawl in while i was sleepin or something? wait how would that fit- OKAY SCRATCH THAT LET'S JUST GET FOOD"
This parenting book is not helping, I still have no clue how to take care of the rat I found in subterranean, or how he came to be. But it’s nice to know that spearmaster is equally as terrified as I was when I found a random lil guy.
I'm so sorry to inform you guys about this but The last one is actually similar to to the reproduction method of surinam toads (don't search it up if small hole clusters unnerve you)
This is the slugcat, a slugcat will shed its and leave parts of its protective cellular “skin” and leave it on the ground, the skin is water proof but inside is a small pupa slugpup developing into the rain and is poisonous and inedible, this is a way to protect the developing slugpup from predators who would want a quick snack . as it grows bigger and more fresh it cells come to together and forms the slugpup, the slugpup when it’s nearly done the horrid stench used to ward off predators wears of from the baby slugpup and now it must fend for itself . Some slugcats will share their cells with a different one creature a mucus egg , others can puke them out
how did the slugcat even appear tho? is it made out of the bones that needles are made out of? did it somehow fall in there? did SRS goof up and make his genetic abomination worse? was spearmaster doin the *2nd karma symbol*????? how the heck would've spearmaster found another slugcat? is this extended more slugcats dating sim? WHY IS THERE SO MANY POSSIBILITIES

I honestly didn't think much about How Slugcats could reproduce. But if I'd had to guess it would be either the 1st option and 2nd option. Most likely the 1st option though.
