A reminder for those that don't check my channel page - I have a second channel for stuff that is riskier to upload for copyright reasons, which I've been uploading to a lot more often recently - www.youtube.com/@NomchiveBonusBites
This episode could've been better, but it could've also be a lot worse. If I saw one of those slugs, I'd let it eat me so I don't have to put up with morons.
Me: "Hrm...I wonder if this new Who series will have the spirit of the Moffat era." New Who: *Introduces a monster that is fucking horrifying* Me: "WELP IT'S GOT THAT ASPECT OF THE MOFFAT ERA DOWN PAT HOLY SHIT I'M NOT SLEEPING TONIGHT."
I believe the implication is that these people had become so used to their HUDs telling them where to move that they had all but lost their ability to make directional movement decisions without them.
I know, right? I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO totally NOT expecting this to be from a Doctor Who episode; I thought it was a trailer for a new monster movie!!!!!
I haven't watched the episode myself but I've heard about it. It's a heavy-handed social commentary on how Gen Z is so obsessed with their phones and social media that they'd literally walk headfirst into a slug's mouth if TikTok told them to. The episode follows a woman on a planet where the people are so completely and utterly surrounded by social media that they have a bubble of TikTok-like screens projected around their heads to tell them what to do, including how to get up, get dressed, eat food, go to the bathroom, etc. The Doctor's split-off personality and his sidekicks are trying to save her from getting eaten by slug monsters, who apparently use the social media programming to force the people of this planet to walk straight into their mouths.
And this is supposedly what happened to Earth because people got addicted to a future version of a cell phone? I feel like a lot of people underestimate the human desire to interact with the real world, and dissect weird things.
Dr who is a stupid show for stupid people. I have never in all my life seen a single clip that made me want to watch the show and I'm a massive fan of Sci fi
