this hack reminds me of an idea i had for a rom-hack that seemed normal, but there would be minor changes like small graphical bugs or things slightly out of place, but would play pretty much normal. the catch would be if you tried to do certain things, like clipping through the stairs to get to the second floor faster or grabbing the ledge from the basement to the lobby, then you would get transported to secret levels. there would be hidden hints about this, maybe a few hidden signs or something, but anyone who's played mario 64 long enough would stumble into one of them by accident and get the idea to check other areas.

The most subtle change in this hack is that Mario uses a voice line that was cut in SM64 but used in Melee and Sunshine

I like to creep around my home and act like a goblin I don’t know why but I just enjoy doing this. Maybe it’s my way of dealing with stress or something but I just do it about once every week. Generally I’ll carry around a sack and creep around in a sort of crouch-walking position making goblin noises, then I’ll walk around my house and pick up various different “trinkets” and put them in my bag while saying stuff like “I’ll be having that” and laughing maniacally in my goblin voice (“trinkets” can include anything from shit I find on the ground to cutlery or other utensils). The other day I was talking with my neighbours and they mentioned hearing weird noises like what I wrote about and I was just internally screaming the entire conversation. I’m 99% sure they don’t know it’s me but god that 1% chance is seriously weighing on my mind.

Hacks that use the original levels but modified probably feel the best because they aren't overdesigned. I think what makes Mario64 feel so good to play, is that the game doesn't expect you to use most of your movement options, so when you schmoove it feels special rather than intended

Author here. One thing that wasn't mentioned on the hack page, is that the hack is open source. This hack is not meant to be a personalized/spooky hack. It was originally a personal hack to showcase unused assets for tcrf, but it spun into the stuff in the video overtime. Also, this hack is unrelated to other beta projects, except for the Lost3DBrother project (Which I am also working on).
