Steve explores the many extra performance details that separate this 2005 Acura RSX Type-S from standard RSX models, plus a look at what VTEC is all about.
I'm surprised the engine and transmission are still in it. When I go to junkyards and see an RSX (not even the Type S trim), they've been stripped completely. I also noticed the battery was still in it. I'm wondering if they're trying to sell it as a whole.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's cracked or something there a good crunch of the front pass fender, and I see a small wrinkle in the top of the radiator support, it don't take much to crack the cast aluminum blocks, but who knows might be a good one
Man I can’t believe that beauty still in that junkyard! Those are becoming a hot collectible now! And engine intact!! Wow! It deserves a new home and to be restored!
i’ve always wanted one of these! when i saw the thumbnail i was suprised that no one rebuilt it and resold it! this car fixed is a good $7k all day as long as it doesn’t need any major work.
I am constantly amazed at your depth of knowledge and ability to recall so many details about so many cars! I enjoy every one of your videos, and sometimes ask myself ‘Why the heck is that car sitting In a junk yard?’ Many times, I’ve cars in the junk yard that are in much better condition than the one I’m trying to resurrect! Thanks!
I've got an 02. Much fun on track days in stock condition. I've got old school Dodge muscle car, when I had the valve cover off of the type s for a new gasket and valve adjustment I just marveled at the engineering it's just like eye candy under that cover and we call VTech a automatic 3/4 race cam.
Yeah the RSX is a fun car. One of the last drivers cars. It still has a throttle cable and just feels so responsive and connected. I used to drive those when they were brand new off the truck... Lots of them haven't had a great life.
Glad to see more Japanese content like this. Hate to say it, but they're not making anymore baby boomers, but folks who lusted after these cars when they were new and couldn't afford them then are hitting their peak earning years now.
I have that exact engine in my 95 civic hatch turbo dyno making 470 hp very tough engines…I would love to have that transmission as they are rare here in Tennessee ….at least in the small town I live in
Yup, made from 2002 to 2006 and they were made at the Suzuka plant in Japan. My aunt who moved from Brooklyn, NY to Lakeland, FL kept my uncle's 2002 Civic four door after he died (although she never drove in her life). She kept finding notes on it to sell it (the car had 35k miles on it in 2019 when I drove it last. She's since passed away and gave the car to her grandson). All of the local kids wanted to soup it up and put an Acura engine into it and make it a sleeper. I worked with a guy that bought one of these new (I'm sure it's gone by now), and it was a funny transition as he was a strictly VW guy (although he had muscle cars when he was younger). Looks like possible code NHM623M Satin Silver Metallic exterior paint.
I own an orange 06 type s. They truly are amazing cars. As another below said, its surprising the whole drivetrain is still in it. The motor and trans in any year type s has considerable value on the parts market. The 8th gen si is not the only car it goes in easy. With proper Hasport mounts and swap axles it goes in any 88-2000 civic or 90-01 integra. I literally am finishing up painting my 97 Integra after swapping it with an 08 TSX k24a2 and 06 type s gearbox. You should check out the first generation Acura TSX if you like the RSX.
I have an 11' civic si. Engine here I think is similar to k20z3 in the si from 2006-2011. Wouldn't call it fast. But very engaging driving experience with the high revs, shifting, good handling.
Love your videos Steve! Your overall knowledge is off the charts. Always informative and entertaining. I can't get over the cars that are there. Keep the vids coming. From Ontario, Canada.
@@SteveMagnante so many questions for you, what I would give to pick your brain for a few, love the videos and your infinite knowledge of everything automotive, is there somewhere a person could direct questions to, I've asked a couple of times on here but I'm sure your a very busy guy because I rarely see you comment on here, if that's something you don't have time for I get it , I'm sure you would get swamped with questions, maybe if you could figure out a way to charge a dollar a question or something to help keep down the nonsense questions so you wouldn't be overwhelmed, because the knowledge you possess is definitely valuable to someone doing a oddball engine tranny swap, say like a 3800 v6 with a 5 speed in my 85 s-10 blazer 2dr, 2wd, 5speed, or a 350 chevy throttle body motor with the 5 speed in the same blazer, thank you regardless if questions are possible or not, still love the vids and commentary, been following everything of yours sense you were first on the Barrett Jackson auctions years ago on the speed channel
Always been this way too. 30 years I've been following this guy. Its like he came out the womb pre programmed with over air updates on the half hour. He'd write more books but it would cost to much research time. And who reads anyway! But rest assured, one way or another he'll always be there. Like some superhero sidekick, every answer, every time.
@@jasonpeizer9042 definitely a automotive superhero of knowledge, super Steve able to answer any automotive question in a single minute no research necessary right off the top of his head
The transmission you see sitting though the windshield is a GM Turbo 700 R4. The airbag deployment is what "totaled" the vehicle, due to, damage to the steering shaft, steering column, clock spring (electrical contact) airbag module (airbag it self) airbag sensor(s) and the airbag monitor (control module) vehicles equipped with SRS Airbag System total them self's from the inside - out! Dave...
I love sport compacts. But love old cars...cause of there torque. So I tend to lean towards compacts with torque. I bought an 05 Satutn Ion Redline. The 2.0 supercharged 200ft lbs. Witn the Stage 2 the redline went to 7200 helping my high rpm fix.
Bought a 2005 RSX Type-S in 2005. One of the best cars I ever owned. Sadly, killed (totaled) by a freak hailstorm in 2015. In 2020, I bought its twin, a 2006 Type-S. Did all the cool stuff with it. It is a race car.
That car is for sure worth getting If I lived closer I would go and see if I could buy the whole car for parts and take what I want and sell the rest for parts to someone else
It sounds like that car would've been a blast to drive and throw around through the twisties. Steve, it looks like the front air dam for the car is sitting on the roof of the car that is behind it.
Excellent! It's great to see Mr. Muscle Car himself reviewing a car that might only appeal to car enthusiasts that dont have grey hair! I'd enjoy seeing more of these. Not all great cars were built in the 60s, or 70s, nor did they all originate from Detroit. Nicely done!
There's a stripped K swapped EG Civic hatch here in New Zealand that went 11.90 with a stock K24 block and the K20A head. I'm helping put a K24 in a friend's 1984 KP60 Toyota Starlet. Should be a fun car
My friend back in the early 2000's had a Acura Legend with a 5 speed manuel and that thing was crazy fast for what it was at the time. I never felt that kind of power come out of a V6 like I felt in that car. It would of ate V8's for breakfast just like the first NSX cars I tried racing one with my Aspen with a 360 in it and that car was gone I would of caught him if I kept it going but I just gave up because it was fast as heck
I'm a fan of the Honda and Acura cars even though I love my American made cars the Honda/Acura is a car I can own and I have owned a few and have one now that I love
In 2K2, I got a black RSX Type S (last RSX on lot), then in 2K5 I traded it in (black is so hard to keep clean) for a Blaze Orange (copper) Type S and had an "A-Spec" suspension kit installed by the dealer. At 66, I still enjoy driving "Penny", revving her up and down through the gears (sometimes to the 8200 limiter). You got me confused, I thought it was 210 HP, but we're both right/wrong; "Maximum power - Output - Horsepower : 207 HP / 210 PS / 154 kW @ 7800 rpm". ;-) IMHO; a RSX, or Type S is the perfect first car.
I just noticed the Dakota pickup behind you, ironic, that's what (same style/year?) I traded in for the black 2K2 RSX Type S. ;-D Btw; I nicknamed the 2K2 to 2K4(?) RSXs, the "scalloped" RSX due to the bumpers being clearance for the taillights.
I had a '97 prelude. 5 speed. Can't really remember the engine in it. All I know is that thing was quicker and much faster than I thought it would be. 140mph is fastest I ever got it. That was the first and last import I've ever owned. Every vehicle I've owned has been rear wheel driven by V8 since.
Fat foot films, among some others that I've seen are playing your videos and getting views. I really don't know anything about copyright laws on RU-vid but it just doesn't seem right. I love your shows and as I was watching I noticed it wasn't put on by you.
Hi Michael Greer, fear not, Fat Foot Films are good friends of mine. Fat Foot honcho Ryan Convery has produced several videos for me. We did the Plymouth Road Runner videos a few years back as a "pilot episode" to get interest from Velocity Channel but they said "no, its too teachy". Whatever. Roadkill liked it and we had a nice 3-year partnership. If you like campy horror flicks, check out some of the Fat Foot Films productions on their website. To me "Mourning Wood" is a classic. There's a claymation opening scene that would do DreamWorks proud! But THANKS for keeping an eye open for me. -Steve Magnante
Watch out for that red wasp @ 4:53 (4:52.5 actually). Those things are a car sleuths bain down here in Alabama and the southeast. You can't just go crawling around, in and out of an old parked car without first doing a careful wasp inspection. Fail to do so at your own peril 🐝 😳🤕
You brought up the fact that these cars were called the Integra in Japan well also in Japan there was another version they didn't just stop at the type S they had the type R which had the Stitch welded chassis as much weight taken out as they could just like the old dc2 integras and instead of 200 horsepower they had 250 from Factory
Although I'm not a huge fan of imports, I do kind of like the rsx. It's not something I see everyday, and the design isn't bad either. I'm definitely going to have to remember that about the seventh speaker too, because that could be put in any car, so why not right?
My ex and I in 03' brand new her parents ordered it for her, we might have broke the shifter and airbag sensor one night ? Warranty was little confused.
Whoa! What is up with that '80s Dodge van in the background??!!! It looks limo-stretched. Kind of a shame the RSX is there, as evidenced by the transmission through the windshield. I wish there were specialty junkyards for cars like that.
Hello Lewis Parker, that's the rare Turbo 700R4 option! i have no clue who carelessly tossed that transmission through the glass. An odd detail, when I first saw the car the tail shaft was drooling Automatic Transmission Fluid onto the 6-speed manual stick shift lever in the Acura's interior. Not close but like right on it. An odd coincidence. Only in the junkyard, right? Thanks for watching and writing. -Steve Magnante
My guess would be that someone was hauling the tran down the highway in an unsecured fashion when it parted company with the hauling vehicle and connected with the Acura. A little hard for the wind to carry something that heavy, but use your imagination. .
