Thanks for the tour! I have a similar shop space with similar equipment. Hoping to turn it into a side hustle some day after I get a couple big personal projects done.

great tour. late 20s apartment dweller living in concrete jungle. hoping to purchase a house in the next few years and have a GARAGE to turn into a DIY workshop as im very much a tinkerer...wood working, electronics repairing, small machinist area, 3d printer machine, maybe some automotive stuff...ah that'd be the dream just to have my own SPACE

Hi Bob. Do you still do these last I see is a year ago ? Thought you were also about to introduce Betsy Bridgeport behind you…I understand 😂 Like your shop….wish I could move the trucks out my garage too. As a materials handling drafter I need to make a bit from my shop as well to survive. So…starting this year in all earnest. Ya days of employment are over.

Hey man, I have a similar lathe with the threading dial. If our lead screw thread pitches matched up I could get you a tooth count for the gear if you wanted to make one. I just engraved new numbers on mine the other day. I'd hate to thread without one.

Nice, proper tools! Weird vibe, though. Some things look clean and like new, other stuff looks like it hasn't been used in years (dust/rust on the mag chuck and the workbench for example). Great potential, though!

Thats not uncommon, its weird you compliment him and then basically insult the guy by saying “weird vibe” 😂 .when you buy a lot of tools you find that some you dont need that often and they sit and collect dust…. But when you need them you HAVE them… its just kind of a nature of the beast. If you actually worked in a shop youd know that everyone has those tools they “havent used in a while”. Like the guy said, hes got the money maker , everything else is supporting equipment

I rebuilt a Reid surface grinder that has the bed driven y a 400 rpm reversing 3 ph motor. It was originally a 2 phase reversing motor. It was bought by the city of Philadelphia about 1947. The Y drive travel limit can be reengaged after the stop. The ability to move the table back and forth was gone within weeks. Poorly repaired it failed again. It sat in the corner at the Water company for 40 to 50 years with a paint job every few year. The ways look like NEW. My mill is Beaver, nt40, 9x56 bed, 6 inch riser and 2 VFD'S.

I'm constantly on marketplace, craigslist and ebay looking for deals. I've gotten a boring and facing head for $250, a radius dress for $100 on ebay. I got my Millrite knee mill for $500 and a surface grinder for $250 on FB marketplace along with a Tesa-Hite for $250 and a B&S master height gage for $50.

Nice set up Bob I am expanding the garage to include a machining bay, What is the square footage of your shop I am currently a licensed(ontario) 310S,310T CWB (car,truck all position stick welder. I have a 20 x 30 shop that i do work in but looking to expand to 4ox40 I was thinking of making the current space the machine shop welding and the new space the repair shop. I would run an I beam gantry between the two. I have a fork lift but in the winter its easier not to use it unless necessary. Like the channel, I m new to it so I ve got lots to learn! Ps Im not rich building the expansion on my sons garage,

The biggest issue with a home machine shop (eventually) is where your significant other parks. Solve that and Patent it $$$

Nice shop! but if you're gonna keep doing the youtube thing I would highly suggest getting a windsock or whatever they call it for you microphone. the popping and additional notice is distracting.
@Michigan_Machinists
@Michigan_Machinists Год назад
Thanks for your feedback! We are going to keep making videos and trying to get better at it as we grow. The main mistake with this video is the direction of the microphone is wrong. A new video coming out very soon so hopefully the sound quality is much better.

For safety, please consider building a little shed outside for the compressor. The tanks eventually rust inside and the tank can rupture explosively. If someone is near it, it could be tragic. Other than that, your shop is just like what I want to put together when we finally get a house with a garage!
@lonewolftech
@lonewolftech 6 месяцев назад
You think a little ahead will change anything of a compressor blows? They’ll take your walls down they do not care! Just drain it and inspect it properly and you’ll be fine
@danielelliott3659

Gotta keep them inside here in Alaska. In the winter the oil gets cold and the compressor won't turn

Fear mongering is ridiculous. Can it happen, yes. Likely? Not if your tank is under fifty years old. Caution is warranted, paranoia isn't.

Play with your mic location. Closer to your mouth is not better, and it was pointing the wrong direction hence the strong left bias.
