Careful when it comes to sequels of classic movies such as this it's very easy for Hollywood to mess it up basically a monkey's paw scenario you may get your wish but a bad product.
Was never in love with this movie but always appreciated it. A more low-rent Toy Story by Joe Dante with great character actors like Dick Miller and Phil Hartman in his final role.
I love this movie. I saw a video of someone trying to make a reboot of it, but apparently the people who did that “reboot” concept trailer are scammers. Sucks, cause the designs for the reboot concept looked cool. 😢
They made and rugpulled a couple crypto while tricking people into thinking they bought the IP for the medabot franchise... While imagineer, the actual owner, was already selling games for several years/ multiple decades... Then sued Imagineer to stop selling the games they had been selling for 20 years or so, as well as give up thier use of the name they used for 20+ years. The guy behind this lost once in court already, and just keeps appealing at every loss on the other. He also refused to pay several devs, who then also sued him. Left out a lot of details, but that's the jist.
Still wish I could have gotten the toys when I was a kid. Great movie. Good for the time it was in, definitely don't need a remake. Not everything needs it or a sequel
@@Popcultureguy3000 I remember going to a flea market in Miami when I was little and this one guy was selling them all. They was pretty pricey but that was the only spot I knew for the longest where you could get one. One of my mom's friends kid at the time had both of the leaders from each group in mint condition when they brought it from the guy.
I just rewatched this recently for the 25th anniversary. So surprisingly that Korey and the others acknowledged it :) They already did a video on the movie before, but it's cool if they want to do another video on it again I suppose
I saw this movie in theaters when I was 5, knowing next to nothing about it. It scared the shit out of me! I didn't give the film a second chance for years. Even to this day, the scene with the Barbie-esque dolls is still oddly unnerving. The only other movie to traumatize me that much as a kid was "Gremlins", and I grow up to learn that they were both coincidentally directed by the same guy, Joe Dante. Also, that Burger King ad is random, but that burger looked good.
I was 8yrs old when this movie came out & I loved it! Not so much now at 34yrs old, but I enjoy watching it with my 6yr old son. I had the Hasbro/Kenner Small Soldiers: Major Chip Hazard 12" Talking Action Figure. I STiLL remember the sayings on that toy, “Commandos target those Gorgonites, Atten-Hut, All Gorgonite SCUM MUST DiE, Commando Elites roll out, Major Chip Hazard reporting for duty, Sir!” Rest In Peace Phil Hartman My DAD[rest in peace] introduced me to Phil’s work when I was a young mustache. I’ll never forget the day he passed away, May 28, 1998, it was my 9th birthday, so tragic, his death was on TV ALL day, channel 2, 4, 7, 9, 11, & 13.
I remembering growing up after watching this movie as a child that Scene when the mess with the Barbie dolls still creeps me to this day. I was so scared after that when I went to go take a bubble bath I drowned my Small soldier that was talk-able after that. Good memories.
Looking back, this movie was ahead of its time. It wasn't like Toy Story, this was more of a satire/commentary. Also, I rewatched the scene where they take the Gwendy dolls and turn them evil and the music for it sounded really familiar, then I realised that it was the music from Bride of Frankenstein. I know Joe Dante is a big fan of that movie, so I that's cool that how he payed homage to it in Small Soldiers.
My first movie watching it in theaters in 98. PG-13 Toy Story...I remember seeing the Marketing as the kid, Burger King was in on it too, with the Rodeo Burger, NASCAR with Interstate Batteries Stock Car...
I had that blue dreadlocked troll toy as a kid, a lucky find in a thrift store, and it was awesome. Thing was huge, durable and had good range of movement. Although I did completely ignore the movie and made him the bad guy in most situations.😁
I was totally into Small Soldiers when I bought plenty of this movie's toys. They felt like the best I've ever played with in my childhood back when I used to live in Alden. Shame I never got them all because I was young. Kip Kiligan and Punchet were the toys I failed to get. Loved Bone Thugs N Harmony War song.
Also a Burger King promotion-which was heavily criticized for selling the movie to kids when it was a violent PG-13 film. The same BK promotion for Wild Wild West the year after probably went over just as well too. Haha. * This movie's an unsung gem. It's hilarious, it's thrilling, some nice depth, a charming romantic arc. It's no wonder it's a cult classic.
I for one love the look and feel of the small soldiers fanfilm. It's so retro and 80s that I think it could work as an interesting prequel. In any case I think they have a real vision and I'm hear for it.
When I saw the poster and the DreamWorks logo attached to this, I kinda knew this was the anti-Toy Story movie. I enjoy the movie and the strategy game on PC
I remember the marketing for this, I was 8 when it came out. I know it's not perfect, but it's still good. I still got my major chip hazard 12 inch figure. Funny Martin mentioned the Commandos fighting predator. Joe Dante the director wanted the Commandos from Predator to voice the commando elite, especially Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers, but couldn't get them.
Apparently there was a lawsuit saying the films toys ripped off GI JOE I remember collecting all the figures when this came out I played a bit of the gameboy video game Always thought the commandos were good but watching the actual movie that’s a twist Somebody slap that idiot for putting munitions microchips in toys! I love the Gorgons mainly Archer I'll admit this can't quite live up to 'Toy Story' levels or even 'Gremlins' for that matter But there's a lot of fun elements from the toys coming alive to the CGI, the action, and the interaction of Alan and the Gorgonites It's nice too the Gorgonites can grow and learn from the chips but also provide a danger for any electronic devices Jones is chewing up every scene as Chip Hazard delivering on the authoritative side and Langella evokes very good sympathy as Archer It's all about making the necessity of care-in toy making and in general, even militarism disguised as entertainment for kids can backfire, just because you can't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist A good if uneven viewing that is definitely toyetic with a tongue in cheek script It’s even more disheartening that actor Phil Hartman actually was murdered two months before the movie opened, his wife and he were having marital problems and after she killed him she took her own life
I always think Eminem’s Toy Soldiers song is the soundtrack to this movie. Or I confused them for each other, the movie’s title and the song’s title looool
It was weird because as a kid in the trailers they made the soldiers seem like the good guys yet when you watch the film they’re actually the dickhead bad guys 😂😭😂 switch up! I loved the rodeo cheeseburgers tho!!! That was actually based because of the movie. Definitely watch the Burger King commercials for it 🎉!
Lmao idk why i remembered the BONE song being way hotter than that. 😂 I guess i was such a fan of bone, i was in denial. I couldnt see them doing any wrong. 😂😂
