Small swells can be fun on a foil where as windsurfing would have been a struggle.

Windfoiling in small reformed waves at Kanaha Maui is FUN!!.
When the tide is too low to go over the reef or the waves are too big for my skill set, carving back and forth on small swells can be a blast. Where I am not a good enough windsurfer to have any fun in these conditions.
Just some clips from a couple days in November when I spent most of the time inside the reef .
Thanks to Bevandhercamera on instagram for the still shots.

Who did the filming? You can really see how sharp you carve.

Bev used her camera. Thanks, I really don't know what I am doing but it sure is fun. Using the power in the sail helps me bring the board around quicker than if I just use foot pressure. I find I like quicker turns on the smaller swells and a bit of a wider arc on the bigger swells. I think it's because I get to use the speed I can generate coming down the swell in the carve. But that just me.

Looks like you are having way too much fun out there Adrian!! Are there any others doing wave windfoiling there? I am hoping to come next spring to wind wave foil there. When are the best months for wave foiling at Kanaha? Do you rent gear when you are there or bring your own? Thanks and keep making these great video's.

Thanks Chuck it is TOO MUCH FUN!!! Yes there are a few of us playing in the waves at Kanaha and there are a few windfoilers that prefer downwinding in the big off shore swell. The waves are best from October through April but the wind gets lighter in January and February. So I am usually there In Oct/Nov and Mar/Apr but the tides are better in the fall. But it is weather so anything can happen. I have my own gear there but places like Secound Wind, Kanaha Kai and Maui Windsurf Company rent windsurfing gear and some foils but I believe they have limited inventory. It may work best to bring your own foil and rent a foil board and rig. Hope this helps

Hey Chuck this is exciting I don't know anyone who has come to maui and said it was bad. I am not sure how to PM without broadcasting our personal info on line. I am probably only worthy of providing general info regardless; so ask away.

Have you previously traveled there & back with your own foil board & sail rig or too risky? Would love to bring my Reef Warriors - Top Gun Maverick WWF board & GoFoil. Any recommendation as to where to stay for two weeks near Kanaha Beach Park? Thanks

I have travelled with my board/rig/foil once and it arrived fine. However it cost $500 one way on Westjet. It seems about 2 years ago the price for most airlines to ship boards went way up. Renting Windfoiling gear is sparse so bringing your own is what I would do, but it is pricey. As for where to stay I would say explore VRBO and it depends what else you might want to do and who else you are with. You will be getting up with the sun, because of the time change, at 6 or 7 and you won't need to get to Kanaha until about 11 (wind usually does not start before then) because you are not allowed to windfoil until then. So there is lots of time in the morning for walks on the beach, bike rides, surfing, hiking even a round of golf and the drive from Kihei is still only 20 to 30 minutes while the drive from places on the north shore like Paia (15 min) or Haiku (25min). Paia is a surf/tourist town, Haiku has a rural up country vibe but can get a little damp at times. Kula/Pukalani are also options on the north side. While Kihei/Wailea are tourist areas with the nice beaches and lots of options. Hope this helps
