I'm glad you shared that story about the bullies. It's funny how even a very cool girl like you could suffer from this. It really shows it doesn't really matter who or how you are. I got bullied at school, but then everything went great when I went to college. It's important to remember there is just mean people out there... Glad you made great friends in the end. I moved to the South of France a few months ago and I'm only starting to meet some people. Gladly I live with my boyfriend, so it's definitely made things easier.
I did the same but to DC (from MTL)… and I got to say it always takes more time than expect to people I connect with. Hope you’re enjoying it over there and doing well 😌
@@erinpowers7217 I won't lie, it's hard. Try to find activities you like (music, sport, reading, theater and join a choir, a team, a book club, etc... I think that's the best way. Otherwise find local associations supporting relevant causes and help them, you'll meet people like that.
@@erinpowers7217 It's definitely difficult, even for a social bug like me. So, a huge variable is the generally vibe of the city (i.e. NYC I feel although there's a lot of people who DON'T won't randomly talk to you, there's a lot that will). I like FB groups and looking into blogs that list all the city's events (i.e. Eventbrite, in DC there's the 730DC newsletter)
Here from Caroline Winklers channel & binging your videos! So happy to find another channel as awesome as hers to comfort me as I try to make my near windowless townhouse into a cozy home!
Some people don’t know “outdated” from period or classic. If you have solid wood doors 🚪from the 20s, 30s, or even the 40s that have never been painted, especially if they have an inlay or other design, do *NOT* paint them! 🎨 But it’s your house.
Probably not in your regular demographic here, but.... My breaker box is in my laundry room above the sink. I painted it with black chalk paint when my kids were little and they would take turns drawing on it or leaving a message. Always made me smile when I was doing laundry. I love the pop-of-color paint advice.
Love your videos soooo much! You do not understand. Your a breath of fresh air in the RU-vid interior design community! I also would love it if you could make a video similar to this but for places where you can’t make many changes to the walls like paint or doors knobs!!!!
yup! i feel like paige and caroline focus on interior design that actually makes sense in people's homes. with them, its about creativity and functionality. they're a lot less stuffy and a lot more accessible than a lot of other interior design channels ive seen
My 1964 "basic" ranch home has those icky orange stained hollow core doors. I sanded them down, re-stained them and spray painted all the hardware matte black. Time consuming, yes. Worth it, Oh HECK YES!
I have the exact same kind of house. I'm afraid a lot of my doors have veneer pulled off at the bottom--a few actually have HOLES...like a door knob rammed into another door. It's quite pathetic. It's a project I'll be tackling this year.
Hi Paige! My (ex)boyfriend and I recently broke up and now I have to move from my beautiful two room apartment, which I really took my time and passion to decorate, into a small one bedroom flat (36 sqm). Do you think you could do a video on how to set up such an apartment without me feeling like I am back to living in my childhood room with a kitchen? I was thinking about a loft bed but adult edition, so that I could have some kind of living room in there too. I would be so interested in your thoughts! Thank you so much! Greetings from Berlin :)
Hey check out the channel never too small for inspo on how to furnish a smaller space! Maybe you could do lift your bed by putting in on a platform and then having storage underneath, plus it gives the room some dimension and structure through different height. Hope you feel better soon and enjoy your new home!
Hi fellow Berliner! I feel your pain, moved into a tiny apartment 29 sqm and absolutely hated to live in a bedroom essentially, so I got a murphy bed hiding behind a curtain. Now I have space for a couch and it feels so airy compared to before. Highly recommend that channel never too small as well!
I have never left a RU-vid comment before, but I just wanted to say thank you-- I have been watching your videos for awhile now, and as I look around my home, I can see what an impact you have had on my style. Thank you for sharing your expertise with all of us!
I grew up in LA. It is a tough place. I am sorry that happened to you. I have subscribed and I am now binge-watching your many comments. I actually got my ass off the couch and immediately did some things you suggested with items I had in a different place or in my attic! Definitely made a difference. Thanks!
Wow that story at the start of the video hit deep, been there and never would've assumed it would've have happened to you too. Thank you for sharing and glad you've found some people worth your time. Thanks for the great content!
Wow, you get around! I first saw you the other day extolling the virtues of British interior design (Luke Edward Hall)🥰 Now your daredevil sublet woman.😅 The door advice is great. I spent the weekend combining 3 big Ikea bookcases into one unit, painting them muted olive and using the same paint on interior doors. A happy experience. 😊
I love the “little spaces” suggestions! My bff has an oval inlay, in the wall, at the top of her stairway that is a huge focal point. We both were at a loss, how to define it. Going to share your video, with her and what fun we will have, styling it💯
I LOVE your work, Paige! Can you do a renter-friendly version of this video? I feel like most renter-DIY-upgrade tips I find make the space look cheap or too crafty.
I've been watching your videos for a while but you really just endeared yourself to me with that story. You seem happier in this video :) Hope you're doing well. x
I put hinges on my electric box cover (a framed linen pinboard) so I can swing it open really easily. Cost about $10 total, and it's so easy to access.
Hello from Sweden! I really like your videos! I feel like they are very helpfull! It would be interesting to see a video on your favorite decor items both that you own and that you want to own since I think your taste in design and decor is really good!
painting doors and trim in bright colours is also coming back into fashion, which is a unique way to add colour that is less of a commitment (and cheaper) than painting walls
For vintage door knobs make sure they come with the set screws as they're a PITA to find esp in the same tarnished finish and not all doors can use a vtg knob but they do sell conversion kits 👌🏼
Nice to see you in your new although temp space! Since you are out in LA it would be fun to see Kare co host a few videos with you. You could review a celeb home or viewers home together. Share some of your best prop style moments or rips and tricks.
Every time Paige says “KNOB” take a big sip of your drink! Also, those girls (mean ones) are jealous because you are doing great, The Goo is doing great, 73,000 people are interested and what great things you have to say, and now let’s take a great big sip of your drink because it’s all great!
This is great! I am about to move back to the West Coast of Canada too and I find it is tougher to make friends with people out there too! I will for sure be using these tips when we move to our new place :)
Hey Paige, long time fan! since you're always asking for vid ideas and I think you mentioned you've watched some of Wes Anderson's films, I was thinking maybe you could do a vid (if you want) on some of your favorite interiors (if you have any) from The French Dispatch? (if you've seen it)
Fairly sure the "boob lights" are just the cheapest lighting you can get at home depot/Lowe's so landlords tend to buy those over something more appealing. I don't know if they were ever really in style per se.
Switch out your basement door knob for one that can either twist or push to open. I did that and it’s so great when carrying something up the basement stairs! I just push the laundry basket against the doorknob and it opens hands free
last summer i invited a guy from an online class to come to an end-of-class dinner/celebration thing with me and a couple others from the class... we always just messaged each other in the virtual classroom and on the last day, after class ended, i was heading to the restaurant and i realized i never told him where we were meeting or gave him my number or anything and I SWEAR i'm not an LA mean girl i'm just a fucking idiot
Hi, I like many of your tips but have to comment on hiding the electric switches or the box. This can be dangerous in case you (the person aware of the cover up) are not around, there is an emergency and nobody can then find those switches. Just something to consider, as “ugly” as they may be they have an important function, thus the most I would suggest is matching the color to the wall or something along those lines, but keep it visible enough.
Canvas that is not framed or has a very skinny frame is so lightweight that it can be hung with two pushpins. Won’t even go through the layer of sheet rock so that’s safe enough in my book (or just a poster even) And if you must put a cute sign over or under that says “electrical panel”…
Within hours of taking possession of our house, I was changing the knobs on all the closet doors and it was an instant upgrade. Within a couple weeks, all the door knobs were replaced and eventually installed hardware on ALL the cabinets (they never had hardware on any cabinets in the kitchen and three bathrooms!). It's crazy how big an impact such a small thing can do!
"add shelves if you have blank walls" :) I wish me and my husband struggled with this instead of the opposite. We both brought way too many books into the relationship and a way too small apartment, and now we may or may not remember where our walls are.
I have the same exact thoughts when it comes to fashion and interior design/decorating - "Is this going to be the new boob light?" - and it honestly makes me second guess a lot of my choices. I still go with them, but like there's always that possibility
ahhh can relate.. I did up my room in 2020 thinking it was so nice and didn't pander to trends too much, but now I'm looking at it like 'this is soo 2020!'. liking a trend isn't bad but yeah its good to question your choices!
I just painted the interior side of my front door Caviar by Sherman Williams to match two furniture pieces I also refinished in the same front room and it looks amazing and cohesive. My son said “it feels like we have a real house now” LOL.
Can you do a video devoted to couches?? I feel like it’s one of the first big purchases young people make, and it’s hard to find nice ones second hand, so would love to hear any of your tips or styles you love!! I cannot spend $2,000 without your blessing
I am so pleased that I found this channel which I have been bingeing. Also, that you don't seem to encourage 'peel and stick' (upgrades?). My neighbour removed a ton of peel and stick she had installed and filled 8 contractor size garbage bags that went to landfill - I have since been on a mission.
Hi Paige! Love your videos, all of them! Question, if I paint one door black do I have to paint them all black? What if they are next to each other? For example, a bedroom door and then next to it is the linen closet, paint both doors the same color?
Another awesome video, Paige! -and LOL about the "boob" lights. I have also wondered the same about when they were considered trendy, but now they're outdated, haha.
When changing door knobs do you recommend changing all of them in the house to match? I have so many solid wood doors in my house and recently took all the wood squares out of a door, put in safety glass and the cutest door knob. I love it. Do door knobs need to match?
Rather than saying “character” or “architecture” I use “intentionality” with specs when you add trim or molding. It means you thought about the overall end space. Art placed inside mounding is chefs kiss****
I want to know what you think of tapestrys in a little townhome for a first time home buyer... lol my dad says it isn't adult enough but I feel like my office needs bright colors so I don't go crazy!
Welcome back to LA! Paint is def my best friend, the reason why I never get my deposits back but hey, that's just my personality fee I pay at every LA apt 😆
if i am a renter, do you recommend painting my kitchen cabinets rather than keeping them the outdated(90's stained wood)? my countertops are black poured concrete granite or quartz(not sure which), but the walls and interior doors and window panes are all white and the floors are like a fake wood in gray(laminate maybe 😮😅).
You’re beautiful, smart and confident and a straight shooter - those mean girls were insecure and afraid you would see through them. Consider that moment as having dodged a bullet
I think I finally found the cabinet pulls I want for my kitchen. The thing is, I need 18 of them. I don't want to spend big bucks on cabinet handles when I plan on redoing the whole kitchen down the line. But the ones I found were about $5 ea--it's doable.
@@MNeathway Yes, but finding 18 identical pulls that are the correct width and style is basically searching for a needle in a haystack. I much prefer thrifting things, but I don't think it'll be possible this time...it would probably take me 10 years to find what I want :P
@@susanma4899 But redoing the kitchen doesn't have to mean new hardware again..you could just use the same ones you found now. Maybe some won't fit/need to be used anymore but the layout will probably be similar right. So yeah upfront a little more money but you save it later down the road during the renovations :)
@@larissajoy Yeah, I think I'm just cheap in general, lol. For example, Arvin Olano's kitchen is nice, but those pulls were at least double the price...or more. Even if I were starting from scratch, would I pay $15/pull. I doubt it!
I love your content and I wanted to know if there’s other RU-vid channels that you subscribe to that are of a similar vibe or at least share your taste in interiors.
