The CRKT also wins out on aesthetics..in my opinion anyway. The cutting surface going all the way around the beak is pretty cool. The full length handle scales were weird looking at first but I think it's probably better for 2 hand use. When I first found your channel I was in to folding knives only. Now I wan't a hawk, machete, sword, warhammer, and a bunch of BlackJacks.
TAC, YOU, my Brother, are a Patriot that I see Eye-To-Eye with, in that I LOVE [..or I’m ‘VERY INTO!!!’] : 1) Blades, Things that have VERY SHARP EDGES ~ Bandages And/or “Quick Clot” Optional [Yes, I, my wife of 36-yrs and son have used!], 2) Things that Go BANG and … 3) Things that Go BOOMMMMM..!!!!🚨😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 PS: I have 2 of your ‘Hawks - The CRKT KANGEE [Which is SWEEETT!!] and The (MY ULTIMATE MOST BAD-ASSED) …RMJ Eagle Talon Tomahawk!🇺🇸
Buy a hickory engineer hammer handle for the cheap vietnam hawk, and it would be sound. Put a wooden wedge in top of head, and it would secure it. I did the same to my cold steel version because that was the same. Now it is solid. Well done Tac!
Modern tomahawks aren't for wood, tactical knives aren't for EDC, kitchen knives aren't for crimes. Adapt and overcome, hands down. Whoever gives thumbs down on this channel has erectile dysfunction.
Trained to use the original Vietnam era tactical tomahawk for combat. It wasn't real good for chopping and camp chores, but chopping and spiking people, works great. Loved all 3 tomahawk shoot out vids. Definitely going to look into getting a CRKT Kangee and checking it out for self-defense/combat use.
your reviews are always the best...you actually test them instead of sitting at the kitchen table "doing a review" on a unused blade thanks bro keep up the excellent reviews
I'm a survivalist, prepper, bushcrafter, and i also love my gear, i have both the fast hawk, and the kydex sheath. and the crkt kangee t hawk with the spike. There both pretty kewl, i also have a s a wetterlings hatchet, and the s a wetterlings back country axe, the gransfors bruks small Forrest axe and a hultafors small scandanavian axe, those are incredibly awesome to cut and chop with, all have a different purpose, which i use hard, but the tactical tomahawks are kewl to have . I like your videos brutha, ive watched most of them.
heard the head of the crkt right where it thins at the top corner at the two blade edges has a tendancy to be somewhat brittle. i was a click away from purchasing it ( not cheap here in the u.k, somewhere in the region of $200) until i saw multiple review pics of badly chiped & broken heads . went with shock n awe, That little fucker is Armageddon proof.. obviously 6 years has passed, so feel free to let me know I'm talking shit.. or not..
Love the channel Tac, i have the SOG fasthawk and like that its a good little chopper that carrys well with the pack, the spike though is lacking but for my purposes that isnt important. Keep the vids coming out i enjoy them a lot.
The Browning (imp of the lot) is the overachiever. Just ordered one for 39.95, free shipping, made it a no brainer, which is a good thing, if you don't have one.
OK I saw your medium shoot out first… And now I have found this one. I think I am sold on the CRKT! One question… Does it come in any kind of pouch or case? Planning on sticking it in a bug out bag… Want to make sure it's not going to cut everything up and kill my bag. Any thoughts? Going to subscribe to you now… Good stuff man
Awesome vid bro! As always. ....yeah. the biggest damn shit on this planet is, that the crkt hawk is around 235 bugs here in Austria. Damn I love the design from rmj as well and your test shows the rest, but 180eur is way too much for me. Especially because it will be my first hawk. I'm really looking for a nice hawk after I watched all your vids and I'm not sure with which one I should go hmpf. Not easy. Any recommendations from you bro? Cause you're my man when it comes to hawks. Definitely want a spike and a strong sturdy build. Thx bro for another awesome vid. Hope more is on the way. Stay safe and cheers! ! Mike
***** thx bro, but definitely no wood hawks anymore. Have one but not happy with the wood handle. Maybe the M48? Your suggestion is highly appreciated. Cheers
no no!!! don't go there bro!! with a wood handle you can replace it but with these crappy 2 inch tang like the m48 you cant replace it, I think you would like the woods kangee but if not go with full tang,I guess it comes down to how much you can spend, stay tuned for the medium tomahawk shoot out you might see somthin you like :)
Love the review. Real world test and your commentary is funny as hell! Convince me to avoid the sog. Looking to buy a tomahawk for the summer and your review helped and made me laugh.
Dude, you should've chopped up a car. Entirely agree about the the full tang or else wood handle. I've seen vids of the partial tangs snapping. I got some inexpensive JXE JXO Tomahawk's with those partial tangs and Im going to use them for throwing like my heavier traditional hammer poll tomahawk's, and use them for fight training cause they're only a pound or so and Ive hitched on Constrictor Knots to the handles for awesome grip and control. I really dig that Kangee but the price has gone up. Have to take a look at the Brownings sheath system and see how it compares to that of the Kangee. I'm tempted to donate my turd of a car to you. Id rip into it myself but somebody might dial 911.
After this vid I've decided that I'll either get the shock 'n aww tomahawk or save up for the kangee t hawk (although it is a bit to expensive imho) Both look awesome and I want a small hawk I can carry easely in my bag when hiking
Lame, didn't chop up a Rolls... Seriously though, another great comparison. I just made the mistake of first watching your CRKT T-Hawk review, so as soon as I saw this lineup, I guessed the winner (clearly the best of the bunch). Keep up the good work, dude.
i only have the sog hawk - here in the uk they cost $75 lol after watching this video im gonna re pro the spike to a drop pointed tanto super swedged :) the crkt does look tuff and bites like a be atch
For the united cutlery a good idea for the handle is drive some roofing nails through the top and itll hold it in place alot better thats wat we do with our axe and splitting maul
I had a CRKT Kangee and the blade lost a big chunk hitting a pine stump. I returned it for a new one which lost a chunk of the blade hitting the same pine stump. I returned it and have zero faith in CRKT products.
I wonder what would happen if you got a actual LaGana Tomahawk or a 2Hawks. Now, the LaGana has excessively thick grind behind it (and a NSN) used to breach through metal.
Great vid tac, the wife is going to wonder what the fuck is going on in my head come Xmas with the list I'm giving her thanks to your reviews in knives and stuff :) anyway thanks again mate kept the vids rolling
Just came across your channel and immediately subbed, id call you a chiller for sure haha. One thing i wish is that youd throw in like a side of beef test. Ya know.....for outdoor butchers? Lol
I love the kangee... i want to get one.. right now i have a rmj shrike which i love and a benchmade hawk in 4140 chromoly..its an absolute solid beast and heavy as hell. It was blunter than a butter knife when it shipped though... by design of course though its definitely not made for wood chopping but itll go through just about anything with no damage lol.. and last but not least. I have a tops haket. Which doesnt recieve enough attention in my opinion. It does everything decently... chops wood ..its fairly light in hand and it has multiple uses... dont let the fact its not a one piece design scare you into thinking it will break... ive abused the crap outta mine and when the head gets loose you just hand tighten the hardware and youre gopd to go.. if you have the money and want a multi purpose hawk...knife...spear..etc.. check out the haket.. one other thing is if you ever break the blade its easily replaced.. but ive used mine on metal and bricks.. wood... drywall.. plastics.. truck tires and so on and its still going strong. And as always.. great vid tac! And thanks.
Can you do a video on traditional bushcraft hatchets, and small axes, such as hultafors, gransfors bruks, and s.a. wetterlings, i think that would be a great video to watch,
Hey tactical,i saw your video on weapon training and i would like to know your opinion on how much strength matters when you are fighting with long weapons (hand and a half swords/axes) i have been training a lot since 2013,drills and sparring, wanted to be in the argentinian HMB team, doing preety good but i can´t be in the tournaments because of the age restriction, atleast that gives me 2 more years for training and making and making a nice danish axe ps:Great vid as always and sorry if my writing is bad
Hey, I've seen in numerous places on the web that the United Cutlery and Boker tactical hawk are the same thing, at least design-wise. They're also supposed to be manufactured by the same company. Is there any chance that the Boker version is, perhaps, of more quality or manufactured from better materials? I know for a fact that Fiskars(Finland) produces all of the Gerber's line of hatchets, fyi.
Pick up a Gransfors viking. Wonder how it would do against these tactical stye hawks... Ha, "what did indians use them for" fukn luved that part! Great vid as always
***** just a bit of history the tomahawk is not solely a native American design. Instead it also shares some design with the English boarding axe used on ships at sea
Another great vid brother, good job. I gotta say though, and this is just out of personnal preference..man I don't like that opening music lol, I loved the others you had before more (you mix em up though), but that's just me so just wanted to put that out there :P can't please everyone everytime right? Keep up the good work bro!
I have the Sog. My spike was sharp and bites deep every time. I would place in the middle on both, as the Average Tomahawk. That said. I want to get a good wood handle tomahawk. Cold steel maybe.
great shoot out videos but id like it if you were to give a sales price range when you talk about your recommendations after you choose the winners. i think telling us the prices would help base your recommending them better most people shop on a budget. otherwise awesome video.
I would love to the cs trail hawk with a cutdown handle to 13" compare to these small hawks... I've seen on RU-vid ppl cut it down, but they show it at work afterwards...
Or.. Cut the CS Spike hawk handle down. Say a 13" Handle, then a 19" handle, then the 22" handle... Show ppl how easy it is to change the spike hawk to fit in any category...
I'm from England (born in the USA tho), so I'm just gonna call it a cricket (CRKT) afte that stupid game they play over here - slightly more interesting than watching paint dry. Anyway, that little cricket has the BALLS!!! The other hawks in this test look weak in comparison. SOG is a good name, but it's a tiny little pecker innit? As for Onturdio and United Cuntlery - no way would I ever waste my money on their stuff. The Browning is a solid piece of kit, but I'm not exactly shocked or awed by it so fukkit. I just don't like the design. You know what the word I'm looking for is? Aesthetics! The CRKT has aesthetics in spades and buries the rest of them. Awesome piece of kit - thanks for the review.
This pertains to the Shorter Shock n Awe Hawk. The question; "How you use it" ... well....play with it. YOU figure out just hold many grab, pulls, holds, come-along's this design allows......ALLOT! Stick the pike in your nose, an ear, an eye and in ones mouth-cheek, armpit or crotch and begin to turn / rock the axe face this way and that way paying attention to precise leverage... its 'Fulcrum Point'' in relation to axe edge, the pike and handle stem .... right off you will see just how effective this little beast becomes. Notice how the 'beard' cutaway shape fits directly about an opponents wrist to trap and move him. IF those measurements/distances were off even a bit then these abilities simply would not be present and this Hawk would then be no different than any other on the market. The shape and distance from one business end to the other is quite remarkable. Compare side by side photos of other smaller combat axes and right off see the key differences. This is an incredible 'multi-force multiplier'' . Ive seen dozens of hawks with the exact same components ...yet... the placement, the distance., the angles built into those designs DO NOT allow you nearly as many trapping and holding, pulling techniques. As small as it is...it works exceptionally well. This Hawk truly shines... ONCE YOU DISCOVER ITS DESIGN advantages when atop and adversary's arms or legs etc etc. Im most curious to know if Browning is even aware of just what they have made ?? But its for real once its in your hands and you start to work it. Yes, when discovered ... I did buy another.... NO I do not have an invested interest with the designer nor browning. I do recommend this tool allot.
Don't chop up a car haha but how about a cinder block? Or sheetrock, pressure treated lumber, or a cheap door? After all, it IS what these hawks are meant for. Not chopping trees. If I wanted reviews on a sportbike, I wouldn't care how it functioned off-road.... Know what I'm saying? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your reviews, but take it with a grain of salt in this case. The take away here: you always get what you pay for!!
