5043 made light work going up Shap and definitely put on a good show going up Shap. Was a great trip I must say and definitely made up for the shambles in January, plus this was my first trip behind 5043 for just under 10 years.

A superbly crafted long sequence. I love these long shots showing the railway in context in the landscape. Noel

Many thanks Noel, that's great to hear, and hopefully plenty more long running shots to come (weather permitting!). Thanks, David.

I think we are blessed with some of the most talented steam crew in the world. And videographers! One of the best steam railway videos I have seen. Well done!

David, this is outstanding work sir. Great to see a steam working across the fells without a diesel doing the majority of the work. Other operators please take note.

Thank you very much Stuart, really appreciate your comments. It was fantastic to see mainline steam unassisted as you say and the weather was kind for the morning - lovely to be out when it's like that. Thanks again, David.

Many thanks C&A, glad you enjoyed it. There is a vastness to Shap which I think is best appreciated from a distance. Best wishes, David.

Nailed it again! With being so far away watching her come from a distance away your pleasure and ours lasts longer. The photo gallery close to the line would be all packed up and away before you had finished the shot. At ±2.40 [ and more] the loco is just feathering the safeties classic GWR style, then each shovel of coal can be seen at the chimney as a few seconds of grey. Classic by the book stuff. Brilliant to see. Also with being at a distance the overhead line and masts are difficult to see, an added bonus. Brilliant work by the camera man and the fireman on the loco. Thanks for doing it Amacf

Thank you very much Amacf - it was a lovely calm day to be out filming, and the distance certainly helps to conjure more of a historic scene for me, albeit with the odd 'Home Bargains' or 'TK Maxx' lorry thrown in..!

We are fortunate at being able to see locos from 'other regions' appearing on what would have been unknown territory.

Definitely Kevin - who would have thought in 1968 that we would be able to see such sights over 50 years later! The remarkable story of preservation. Cheers, David.

Superb. Viewed at distance the electric steelwork and cables disappear rather nicely.

I wouldn’t call a Castle with nine on a “small train”. We’ve only just got shut of Pacers round here.
@Linesider1
@Linesider1 6 месяцев назад
Haha I thought someone might object to that :) I mean small in comparison with the landscape, not the train or loco itself; it's all relative.
