I got mine 3 days ago and its really nice i costum tuned it, now it has no jello. The Stock Quad had Bluejay 24khz but the o3 stabilization works best with 48khz, so i changed it and i also activated the dynamic notch filters and changed dshot from 600 to 300 because of the f4 processor.
Would love a video tutorial on this. Mine has a slight jello in slow hovering speeds. Is this done in the Air Unit or is this done in the Motor Frequency?
@@phantom8617 Its just that what i said i only changed the Bluejay firmware to the newest 48khz version, activated the dynamic notch filters (stock settings, i just activated it, for some reason they wasnt on out of the box), and i changed the DSHOT from DSHOT600 to DHSHOT300 and i ramped up the Feedforward smoothness from 25 to 65 and jitter reduction for ff 7, because i use elrs at 500hz. Thats all what i've done, video on my channel.
There are shorter screws that come in the box and will snug the camera down. Also put some rubber O Rings on the screws to help isolate vibrations from a bent prop
@mikebergman1817 correct it is. However, there will be micro vibrations happening that will cause a bit of jello when hovering. Using small rubber O-Rings will help a lot with isolating the jello
How would you suggest I get these longer screws out of the camera? I tightened them to the screw head and now when I try to remove them they just spin and don’t back out 🤦
@@rudifpv3547 The tip of a fine xacto blade or screwdriver to apply pressure outward while you gently turn it will usually help it grip (what remains of threads) inside more and back out.
@@ktkt1825 the threaded portion actually popped free inside the camera unit. I opened up the back and put some e6000 on both thread wells. When it’s cured tomorrow I should be able to back them out. Wish there was some helpful hint to not use og camera screws because trying to get them all the way tightened will for sure pop the glue inside the cam and cause the threads to rotate with the screws
(DISCOVERED SOLUTIONS) So I recently got mine. Great little machine! What I found is that the camera holds its angle better if you mount it through the top hole, instead of the bottom(BetaFPV actually has it pictured that way). It also drops the camera down lower, protecting it a bit more from damage. Just below the top of the cage. Also of course use a little blue lock tight, as the supplied screws don’t have any applied. Additionally, when installing the antennas…cross them and it will take the slack out of the leads, keeping them down in the holders MUCH better. I’m sure a lot of people have already discovered these tips. No thanks to BetaFPV
Yeah, and I do have both DJI controllers. I just like the feel of my Tango 2. You would just have to check and see what Uart the VTX's SBUS wire is connected to, and change it in the ports tab. Also would have to change it to SBUS instead of CRSF@@dezhi818
That's an impressive woop! Thanks for the part where you push it's limits. This is an important part of understanding the performance envelope of any quad, cinematic or not.
Thank you for JB's nice review. According to my understanding, the pavo Pico is targeting on 100g (with battery), a SUA requirement of Japan. That means, it can be fly in most of the countries in the world, legally. Moreover, as a cinewhoop it doesn't emphasize on strong power but precise control and silence enough that woun't disturb others. It can be use for video taking with little awareness in a social gathering or even in a concert. However, if I want more power for free style and don't care about the problem of weight, size, noise and law, there are so many choices rather than Mobula 8 for me.
I have a Pavo Pico ELRS. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with it. Some of that is from O3 with my DJI Goggles V2. I'm on the beginner end of things and I've cracked the O3 camera UV filter that came with the quad and another I bought separately. I am rookie enough I won't fly without a ND filter now. I have found the Pavo Pico very susceptible to windy conditions. It does fly a bit heavy with the O3 on it, but not terrible. Other than that, the video is so good I love to fly it.
Hey Joshua, I had no issues using the top screw holes on the camera. I noticed you used the bottom holes to mount. Also the Nano Rx was preinstalled by Betafpv.
I have mine some weeks now, it is an awesome machine for its size. It feels amazing, even sort of bigger as it really is. And it is fast. Do not tight down the screws of the canopy too much to allow dampening vibrations. As for the cam mount I cut some stack dampeners into slices and put them in between the cam and the holders. Noticed that carrying a ND filter or any other protection in front of the lens helps to aviods jello a lot. Otherwise it is willing to vibrate. Was able to get some amazing footage with this little beast, love it!
I can't decide on the right word but like the barrel that connects to the lens still has issues where it's loose and it seems the filters end up helping to clamp it all down.
I went with the GepRC CineLog 20 with the O3. I like the build quality better. The prop size is close enough that you really have to need the smallest size for flying through small gaps to make this a better choice.
I have BetaFPV's older 95X V3 with the 1404 motors. I used Chris Rosser's tune and it flies amazing! So stable and you can be very precise with your sticks and it can fly through incredibly tiny spaces! It'll blow yer mind! 😵💫 Being that 25mm equals one inch, the 10mm difference between the Pavi Pico and my 95X V3 is about 3/8 of an inch. Not much to even consider as a difference! People make too big of a deal about 10mm, because we in the USA, I don't think realize how tiny of a difference 10mm really is. The frame and design of the 95X is so much more durable and strong it's literally on the other end of the durability spectrum than this very fragile Pavo Pico. I think one decent crash and it'll be toast! You saw JB flex the 03 mount before it was attached, right? If not, go back and watch it near the beginning of this video. An actual wooden toothpick is way stronger! Lol Oh well, people who fly it very slow for cinematic video will love this! Me, I want to be able to RIP it! And believe me, with those 1404 motors and a 450mah 4S lipo (3S works great too!) my 95X V3 will really RIP! But, it'll also fly very precisely around all of the scraggle inside the canopy of a large tree... Yup, up amongst the crowded tiny branches and leaves and out through an 8" hole on the other side of the tree! It's like flying through a labyrinth! I've bashed the hell outta it and it's super durable, with no damage. I'll pass on this one, cuz I crash, and I know for a fact this wouldn't survive for long! Haahaa.... Nice review JB, and nice flying, with an ok, but very fragile little drone, that's awful heavy for it's size! 🤔👍
Pretty sure they did all those wtf design decisions to save grams, because they already are over 100g. USB-C 2g, some plastic connector 0.5g, two screw mount for camera 3g, four screw mount 6g etc. They even changed gauge and length of the XT30 wires on the battery, ones that came with the pavo pico are thin, and older stock I got locally from amzn had thicker and longer wires. Also I like to remove the O3 "stack" (just 4 screws and a connector) and fly it indoors line of sight non-fpv, it gets me up to 12 minutes with slow flying, for this use case scenario I'm thinking to also bodge together some 1500mAh single use vape cells into a 2S pack, could possibly result in 20-25 minute flight (without the O3).
I'm excited for the future of these types of drones. I really enjoyed flying my 5inch but I live in an urban area and it was always a pain to go find somewhere where I wouldn't have to worry about bothering anyone. I get to fly my Cinerace20hd way more often because I can just fly it in the house. I also wonder how many people don't really fall into either the category of "cinematic" or "freestyle" flying. Personally, I just like to fly the things and it's fun to go fast sometimes and do dives or split S's but I don't really go out with the goal of learning a trick or getting a specific shot.
So glad I went with the mobula8 hd instead. I ended up buying a metric ton of props and I've crashed the crap out of it for the last two days with stock props and haven't encountered much of any wobble or jello. It's pretty incredible.
I think you made a great decision! This Pavo Pico is really fragile. JB didn't show it but when I saw Nick Burns comparison he showed how much stronger the Mobula8 frame is than the Pico, it's not even close! Plus, 1102 motors on such a heavy whoop makes it severely under powered! I think a whole lot of people who bought the Pico will be bummed when it self destructs after one good crash. And, that's what we do, CRASH! Even if some fly it very slow, just for cinematics, I still think a medium crash and it's toast! Good choice! 😎🤘
@@KOrnhOliO1I'll take the underpowered and extra flight time for my purposes of flying indoors and super close to people. I have a super light 3" 03 without prop guards for higher performance outdoor flying. But the mobula performs better than the pico for sure.
@sco0trot0r18 yea I was VERY reluctant due to the hardness of the frame I thought it would translate to more jello since the m8 doesn't have a dampened cam mount but I gota say I think it has the complete opposite effect. I spent weeks dialing in a tune with a 4" I built to try and eliminate jello on the insta360 go2 and it was just an absolute nightmare. In comparison this thing records about as good as my 5" with gopro bones! Totally mind blown at how Crystal the image is. It's even better than any of the reviews I've seen for the pavo OR the m8 from youtubers. I consider this a rare yet pleasant surprise for sure.
I was thinking about the Cinelog 3.5 V2 but have always kept my eye on the Pavo Pico and that will be my very first build that's not a 5", I Am impressed and I would like to implement WS... 😉👍 Thank you ...
I went to betaFPV to buy this and then backed out to go through the affiliate link. Literally right when I was going to start paying I heard you say about the link haha
8:41 No, nd filters reduce the amount of light let into the sensor, that's it. the "smoother" footage comes from using 24fps 180 degree (1/48 for modern cameras) shutter speed. Just slapping an nd filter on wont make it smooth, it will just make it look like you put sunglasses on your camera lens. also you used to low of an nd filter and its very apparent from the footage, i would of used either 32 or 64 for middle of the day.
You would be right, except that we are talking about cameras that use auto-shutter. By reducng the light coming into the lens, you force the camera to choose a slower shutter speed and you get more motion blur. If you lock the shutter, then you're right, adding an ND filter does not change the motion blur. But you seldom want to lock the shutter on an FPV drone because the lighting conditions vary so significantly that you need auto-exposure to make the footage usable.
I decided on the Mobula8 with O3 Air Unit. I'm excited to fly it! It will be my first non-DJI drone (and my second drone). I'm practicing flying Rates in the sim with hopes of improved success.
It's so much more durable than this one... Just the way HM designed it. And 1103 motors will be so much better! 1102's on a quad that weighs just over 100g with a tiny lipo, is severely under powered! Plus, JB didn't show it, but that Pico frame is very flimsy. Great choice! 😎🤘💯
Or just bind your dji fpv controller to the air unit. I bought the avata because it's awesome, and now i can just buy 03 air units, and use the equipment i already own. Save some weight too.
Nice review, the drone looks like it handles really well for its size. Im on the fence about getting one as I have zero experience with traditional FPV quads yet but was thinking tinywhoop something similar would be the right way to get into it.
I loveeeee my Pavo Pico! Baby drone with HD link and 4k 120fps?? yasssssss count me in! It def is sensitive to the props, basically the second you bump something its not jello free anymore, but I do wanna try adding some rubber grommets to the cam screws. I was able to get mine super solid, but I did crank the heck down on the cam screws ..p.s when you order the Crossfire version it comes stock with a nano receiver and that lil blue antenna. It looks to be about the same size as a Minimortal T, so hopefully the tuning is close. Either way I've pushed the range pretty far and didn't have any signal issues. I did have a motor fail, but it seemed a little off from the beginning and was stuttering already after the first pack, but you're gonna have that happen every once in a while. Luckily I was able to get some spare motors coming, soooo excited to get this back up in the air again! Having something this small and quiet with such great video is sooooo life changing, I'm bringing it everywhere with me from now on (at least until I finish building my 3s O3 Odonata HD :D Great video and info as always!!
I have it with a vista configured. The whoop cannot turtle because the vista is too heavy when it’s upside down. It was in a gym, so floor was sort of slippery
There are mini T 915mhz ELRS antennas. I have both full size and mini T. The mini are the size of 2.4GHz antennas but the range isn’t as good as the full size.
You have to be able to push it; sometimes the action you want to film is moving fast. I am hoping someone will build a HDzero VTX that can capture 4K on board with gyro data.
Sorry for the Bad Question. I have the Avata with Googles 2 and the V2 Controller. I have bought the Pico and an DJI O3. What do i Need to fly with the DJI Controller from Avata/FPV? Thanks for reply
Although i don't fly for the footage, my flying style is mostly cinematic in nature, and squeezing the most flight time out of a sub 250 quad is a subject I'm very interested in. I mostly fly my Flywoo Explorer 4" with 03 , which hits 249g with a 650mah. What we need now is a competition for a company to hit the flying time sweet spot between the Pico and the Explorer for sub 250.
I found a battery brand I hadn't heard of that had what they claimed were 2s 650s and weigh 33g. Don't know if they are truly 650s at that weight, but I get right at 5 minutes with them on the pico flying cinematically. AUW with a 5g standalone vifly beeper is 115g.
Joshua, thank you for mentioning Japan's regulations. Yes, the weight limit is 100g. In addition, we are required to obtain our own domestic electorical certification mark (Technical standards conformity certification) for O3 devices and DJI goggles. Moreover, we cannot use the digital 5.8GHz frequency for public or hobby use. Oh, yeah, Yeah, ithat's ridicurus. In short, we are not allowed to use DJI O3 due to Radio law
Is it worth getting this one over the geprc cinelog20? Seems to be a tough choice, especially if you have little to no soldering experience. I guess outdoors the cinelog should handle even better?
If you are watching in 4k on RU-vid, the results are pretty representative. If you are watching in 1080p or lower, then you are not quite seeing the realistic representation.
that elrs antenna is an 868/915 antenna. not 2.4. they do a small version that looks like the 2.4ghz antenna but it's tuned to 900. it won't get as much range as the full sized antenna though. I guess they made it for smaller quads. several of my elrs recievers have came with that antenna. I don't use it on my 5" quads.
Nice I got an Avata bundle at release to get into digital. This things looking pretty sweet. Good enough to let my family fly around without major worries. We’ve come a long way. Years ago you were giving me pointers on Reddit on my first 5” kiss builds and now we’ve got crazy tiny things like this.
The Pavo Pico is exactly the type of drone i would like to try as an entry to the O3 world. I have a 5inch thats happy to carry a gopro, but i want something small to buzz around the buildings at work. But as with almost everything FPV, almost all stock either stays at the manufacturer in china, or goes to the US. The german stores just list them and they're basically immediately out of stock. Prebuilts just dont exist, you have to build from parts. Which is fine for bigger models, but at the small sizes is quite annoying. These things come with parts that are hard to source, or have custom tunes etc etc.
Hi Joshua, I have purchased a FlyLens 75 HD O3 \O3 Lite 2S Brushless Whoop FPV Drone with a Flywoo Explorer 1000mAh 80C 2S1P 7.6V /7.6WH, I did the DJI update, and after I did charge the new batteries and try to plug them and nothing is happening? Are those batteries Bad? I checked the voltage and they are both at 8V, is it something I am missing to do? Please, your advice and input will be very appreciated. Thanks
I have a Pavo 20 and can't find the RxBat telemetry. I was wondering if the Pico has the same AIO board, and if you knew if battery telemetry doesn't get sent to the radio? I'm trying to setup an audible flight battery voltage Low Alarm.
I'm not sure what settings you're using on o3 or what you're doing to the files in post but it should look way way better. This looks like footage from vista or original air unit. I get great files from o3 straight from the unit.
Helpppp! I used the same screws that came from the o3 air unit instead of the ones that betafpv included. Now they won’t back out, the screws just spin and the camera isn’t tight enough to not flop around when flying acro. How can I get these two screws out? Thanks
Love the video as always, but just out of curiosity why does the pico get so much more videos than the mobula 8. There's not a video out that persuades me to have the pico over the mob 8.
footage looks terrible compared to my O3 unit. too soft and mushy. i think the vibrations taking its toll and the ND filter smoshed everything to hell.
@@JoshuaBardwell thank you, so from RDQ? Also, if I get it through RDQ do I get the whole box with a battery and spare parts like shown on the betafpv website?
I had no issues using the screws he used, I used the top holes and had the camera mounted lower by using the top mounting holes. For some reason Joshua changed the camera to the higher position and lower holes. Screws tightened just fine...
Man, it's hard to buy one of the cetus kits as a starter when you see the difference in quality of dji o3. What are some affordable goggles and controllers I could use with this?
I’m having an issue with my AUO3 footage. In Gyroflow, for the Codec I’m getting HEVC 58.24 Mbps and the picture looks a bit mushy - Others are getting H264 140 Mbps, with great pictures - but I can’t find where to change this - I’m using V2 goggles - Could this be the firmware update - Any suggestions on how to fix this?
HEY!!! What rates and pids do you use for pavo pico? I have pico and mobula8, but for me pico works better. I got some propwash I dont see that much in your test
can u share the config file on txt for betafligth for test it? I can get 3.50 minutes of flight time in a smooth flight, and about 3.20 in a more freestyle one Never carry more than 4.20 or the o3 goes off when it runs out of voltage, you have to try to be close when you are at 3.30 as a security measure
