I'm not going to make an enormous kiln... in order to bake steatite during one minute at 1100°C into something as hard as flint... But this "kiln" is not up to the task... although not as discouraging as i thought initially :-)
The goal is: smallest wood kiln where you can maintain 1100° C for one minute (or 950°C for one hour, maybe).
I guess there is no hope, at all, with a smallish kiln... particularly not by finding what a way to not let escape heat... if we need an air flow, something has to escape taking heat away with it...
