I loved this song when it came out. I sat at home and cried my eyes out - I was glad there was no-one else there to ask "Why" (another poignant Bronski Beat question...). I heard it on the radio in the car on the way home from work the other day...and it happened again, uncontrollable tears. I guess that proves the emotional power of this fabulous song. Cry, boy cry...
What a special rendition of this classic. Just wow. Jimmy's voice is remarkable today as back then. That is rare for the best of musicians. I hope the new generation is as touched to hear it.
What a heavenly voice he still has! He still sounds like in the 80s 👍👍👍 My teenage years and this song is a one of my favorites of that awesome decade! An anthem! All the Best , Jimmy
Germany will not be ready for the tartan army at the euros 200 thousand people from Scotland coming over to Germany...huge respect for treating our scottish singer with upmost respect 🙏 brilliant Germany 🇩🇪 👏
This song was the deciding factor for me leaving home in the early 80s. I had enough and was struggling. Thanks bronski beat and Jimmy and co. For the memories. And thanks mandate in st kilda.😚😚😚😚
Thanks for posting this. What an amazing performance. The voice has aged perfectly - a gravelly undertone to the instantly recognisable countertenor/falsetto.
Absolutely amazing ! Absolutely fantastic! Jimmy Sommerville has been the idol of my youth, his voice is ageless... his physical shape is still that of a young god ! The well-played Zither sounds great ... can‘t get enough from this incredible, outstanding, heavenly voice !
To your soul To your soul Cry Cry Cry You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face Mother will never understand why you had to leave But the answers you seek will never be found at home The love that you need will never be found at home Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Pushed around and kicked around, always a lonely boy You were the one that they'd talk about around town as they put you down And as hard as they would try they'd hurt to make you cry But you never cried to them, just to your soul No, you never cried to them, just to your soul Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (crying to your soul) Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (crying to your soul) Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (crying to your soul) Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Absolute legend of a man one of my favourite 80’s artists and sounds just as good today as he always has infact this guy has stood the test of time along with his music....
Good to see Jimmy. It's been decades and decades since you made famously this hit! We're just one part of the whole wide world fans of the British band, Bronski Beat. Smalltown Boy is classic iconic hits of the 80s..
Jimmy's voice touches the soul. He took us out of ourselves, out of the staid conservative hypocritical world and into something deep and pure. You don't need a drug to listen to his sound, it reaches into the heart and takes us to the soul. Stay clean Jimmy you rock or rather, you pop.
what a great way to celebrate this Anthem of a big "coming out" Generation by German TV - this song means the world to so many People in their coming out.... this band and Jimmy Sommerville were far ahead of their times….. and a Guiding light....for People on their road "to come out".... thank you so much

Miki Saba This song was so important to us in the ‘80’s. It helped give me the strength to come out, finally knowing there were others who felt as I did.
Genghis Smith bless you we are all the same yeah I accept everything and everyone..... we are best of friends and the pain he went through ...... but if people opened their mind eyes ... ohhhh I could ramble forever about it lol bless you all
Genghis Smith oh and same to you it’s getting a bit scary I’m in Melbourne Australia and now we are pretty much in lockdown it’s mayhem here no work no money people going crazy mad it will pass hopefully I hope your end is doing ok ?
Miki Saba It’s getting serious over here now, with our Prime Minister telling us to stay at home and only go out when it’s essential. Can’t believe how fast it accelerated....we had a few days in Prague last week (beautiful city) and only just made it out on the last plane! Looks like it might be our last holiday this year. We can only hope it runs its course sooner rather than later, anyway good luck.
