I love how Clark takes the dirt and let’s it fall out of his hand. He does this to the people he actually cared about being Jonathon, Lionel and finally lex.

When I first saw this scene years ago, I thought the music in the background was actually Lex's theme, the high pitch followed by the low pitch sounds like the type of music he'd have for when he's getting intimidating with someone or plotting his next scheme for the next episode. But this just shows how brilliant the show is, and how much Lex was attached to everyone's lives. Clark, despite all the pain Lex had caused him, Lana and his family, mourns the loss of his best friend and chooses to remember the good times he and Lex had. Oliver convinces himself that he did the right thing in killing Lex, but he struggles with the guilt knowing how much pain Clark is in. Lana and Chloe despise Lex for what he did to them, but can't help mourn someone they considered a good friend once upon a time.

Looking back on this scene now, I can't believe this is the way Lex actually died. At the time I thought for sure it was a fake out. So disappointing we end up with a clone with no memories in the finale. Essentially everything that made Lex the character we come to know on Smallville was gone. Oh and I also hate that this is way they chose to end the clana romance, instead of it just coming to its natural end like it had in season 7. This is the arc I always skip in season 8, though I absolutely love this song.
@wtcvidman

This definitely was not the death of the real Lex. There are so many clues that point to that: 1. First we see the kryptonite ring that Oliver puts on here with Lex's L on it. Lex only found out about Clark in Arctic, so if he was so disabled that he needed a truck to move him around, how could he have made the ring to be found in whatever safe that Oliver found it where Lex's other possessions were in? And why wasn't the Lex who was blown up in the truck not wearing it himself? 2. Lex in the Finale was shown to have been getting organ transplants and grafts THE ENTIRE TIME in a hidden room under the mansion. How the hell did he get there without Tess, her staff, Zod & the Kandorians (when the Kandorians took over briefly at the opening of season 9), and others not noticing? Clark survived the Fortress collapse without his powers and he even brings up the idea that Lex may have as well in Odyssey. Then when Tess & Regan are looking for him in the Arctic, he's nowhere to be found. Lex had to have been found & moved into that room in the mansion in the days/weeks prior to Tess occupying the mansion. Therefore the one blown up in the truck must have been a clone or more likely a cyborg. 3. Why would Lex begin working with the Toyman in Requiem? To simply blow up Oliver? He could have found many other people to plant a bomb for him. No, Toyman was an inventor of bombs and of very sophisticated devices. In fact, when next we saw him in Echo (4th episode of season 9), Toyman had a working cyborg version of himself with real skin, hair, and probably blood too. The cyborg Toyman had a bomb planted inside him too and Clark deactivated him only after realizing that the real Winslow Schott wouldn't put himself in danger. Rewind back to Requiem---what I'm saying is that the Lex in the truck was a prototype cyborg that the real Lex commissioned so he could make Clark & others stop looking for him. 4. Lex had all the technology needed to create a cyborg with real skin, hair, DNA, etc. We saw in season 10 what had been going on in Cadmus Labs with all those Lex clones. Lex had the cloning technology for a very long time. He took what Lionel did with Emily Dinsmore & applied what he learned from Evan's aging in season 4's Ageless and combined them to create aged clones like the lifeless Lana clone in season 6 and the Julian Luthor clones Adrian Cross (faulty clone) & Grant Gabriel (perfect clone). He would've been able to also clone Toyman so that the living tissue used for the Toyman cyborg seen in Echo could be possible. In fact the only one who was able to create such a cyborg was Lex, so there's no way that Lex was dead. He had to be alive merely for the Toyman clone to be made because Toyman did not have access to such technology elsewhere. Lex also had the cybernetic technology based on what we saw in the episode Cyborg, so combining cybernetics with cloning = realistic cyborgs who look exactly like their human counterparts. They found Lex's DNA in the remains of the truck that exploded, which would have been from the cyborg based on Lex's DNA. I wouldn't even be surprised if the bomb that blew up was the one in the cyborg itself and not the one in the toy monkey, if the toy monkey even had a bomb inside to begin with if we follow Clark's logic in Echo about the Toyman not wanting to physically be where the bomb was dropped in the events of Requiem where it was Toyman who dropped off the monkey. Even in the beginning of Requiem when we saw the explosion in the Luthorcorp board room, Toyman was not present when those balls started clanking together and blew up. 5. In Echo we again saw a Lex-Toyman association. As we all know Toyman was in that episode, but so too was Lex. Near the end of the episode, as Clark leaves Oliver on the roof of the Ace of Clubs & the glass door closes, Oliver sees Lex in the glass as chilling music plays and throws his drink at the glass door. Oliver is standing facing the door as he throws the drink & Lex turns his shoulder as the drink comes flying at him in a flinching motion. Here is the scene: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-We42WLS0ego.html I remember people in the Kryptonsite forums brushed this off as Oliver seeing himself as Lex due to his guilt, but that can't be true because if the Lex seen by him was just a delusion or figment of Oliver's imagination, why would he flinch? And if he was seeing himself as Lex, why would Oliver be standing in a straight position but the Lex in the glass have his body turned? Because what Oliver saw in that episode was the real Lex (though played by another actor of course). 6. If that was the real Lex, then it means Lex had to have become invisible to be able to get away. Well guess what? Lex DID have invisibility technology and multiple sources of it. In season 1's Shimmer, there was Jeff Palmer who used a green rose (obviously infected by kryptonite) that he found on the Luthor mansion's grounds to turn himself invisible. Then in Fade, we saw Graham Garret, a meteor freak, whose main power was invisibility. And we know ever since Jinx that Lex had his 33.1 facilities where he began collecting meteor freaks and others with powers and studying them. It was from either Jeff Palmer or Graham Garrett (probably the latter who was an actual meteor freak) that Lex was able to give Wes Keenan, his super soldier seen in Prototype, powers to cloak himself in invisibility. So after reviewing all these things, it's entirely possible that he cloaked himself with invisibility and escaped the roof like that. 7. The Lex in Requiem acted nothing like the real Lex ever acted. He reeked of desperation like other clones in fact were shown to be. Namely the Adrian Cross clone of Julian Luthor and the old evil Lex clone seen in Lazarus who tied up Lois in the field and set a bomb on the roof of the Daily Planet. In fact, the latter is exactly what the Lex in Requiem did to force Clark & Lana to make a choice. 8. The real Lex would never trust the Toyman with his location in case he was nabbed and would never put himself in a suicide situation. The truck when Clark found it just before it blew up had been stopped and not even moving (why would it be like that if Lex was trying to get away). We never even saw confirmation that the immobile Lex shown at the end of Bride and again in Requiem was in the truck when it exploded. The truck's back doors were closed and neither Clark nor Lana ever saw him face to face in that episode. What we saw instead was the immobile Lex's face in a dark area with his face lighting up as the bomb started to explode. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M-Nt6ZRVwjU.html For all we know, it could have been the real Lex in that room under the mansion looking at a TV screen & watching the explosion happen live, but was far away from it & in no danger. In fact it must have been for the other things I pointed out (like the creation of the Toyman cyborg & Lex's appearance in Echo) to be true. 9. Lex in the Finale talked about how he read about Darkseid in the Veritas journals and he never had a chance to do that until after the events of Arctic. If he knew the Traveler would fight Darkseid and would be needed to save the world, he wouldn't have used the orb on Clark until after that happened. Lex became evil but he didn't want an outside force destroying the world as we saw in the Finale. So reading up on that is something he had to have done after the events of Arctic and if Lex was simply dead or as immobile as the one they showed in Bride & Requiem, he would've been in no shape to do any reading on that. He must have been mobile between organ transplants and then at a later time been forced to have retreated to his LX0 chamber once he needed a new heart. 10. Lex's appearance in the void between life & death in Lazarus when we saw Clark there is more proof that he was alive & not dead since only people not yet dead could be there (Jor-El told Clark that him being there and not completely dead is why he was able to speak with him). Lex could have been there because he was in a comatose state in his LX0 chamber awaiting his new heart even back then. Or he could have willingly gone to that void by taking that serum that Lance in the episode Void created that allowed Clark, Lana & Lex to go to the afterlife. There were still samples of it left after Lance died, so Lex could've easily gotten his hands on them and produced more vials & even improved them to be safer, provide longer trips to not only the afterlife but also the pre-afterlife void, and could've been taking trips there to learn the knowledge of the future that those in the afterlife like his mother & Jonathan Kent clearly had as seen with their warnings to Clark & Lex in Void & Lazarus. A Lex Luthor who is that hell bent on obtaining knowledge to gain the upper hand is the type of Lex I want to see. 11. The real Lex when we saw him again in the Finale never mentioned getting blown up. He wasn't psychotically angry at Clark like the one in Requiem was but the same level-headed Lex we saw in the past.

(cont) What sucks is that all of these should not have been just left as hints but actually put together like a puzzle on screen and by Clark in an expose he should've written on the return of Lex Luthor and how Lex was not dead. Just imagine if they would've given Lex a background plot like this where even though we wouldn't have seen him, we would have seen things he was responsible for. Ever since the night the episode Kandor aired, I thought they would reveal Lex as the killer of the Jor-El clone. I never bought it that Alia was his killer because it just didn't make sense. Clark asked the Jor-El clone who attacked him as he found him dying and Jor-El did not know. Jor-El should've known who Alia was since he made the orb. Some could say that they put a bag/mask over Jor-El's head as they transported him and released him as his mortal wounds were sustained, but Clark would have found them had they done that since Jor-El was found walking alone on the farm and there were no Kandorians nearby and none of them had their powers at that point. There were no vehicles either. Here is the scene: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_e1pOMRjJio.html I always thought that it was Lex who had been walking around cloaked in invisibility, which I thought was the case ever since that scene in Echo with Oliver & Lex on the Ace of Clubs roof, and that Lex suddenly decloaked and inflicted those wounds on the Jor-El clone before disappearing. Alia defying Zod and killing Jor-El made no sense. She wouldn't do that. I always thought something was off with her. The future Alia seen in Savior & Pandora had powers under BOTH red & yellow suns, which no Kryptonian was shown to have. I always thought she was Brainiac in another form, who would have been able to have powers no matter what sun he was under. I think it would've been awesome if they introduced Dr. Chisholm from Conspiracy earlier than they did and had him appear in Kandor and shown what the Kandorians did to him (his bald head with all those scars from their experiments). And as Jor-El laid dying in that episode he should've described his attacked as bald and they could have made the viewers think he was referring to Chisholm. But later on in Conspiracy as Chisholm died (would've been better if they had him get caught and used him as a villain again) he could've denied any involvement to killing any aliens on farms, making it clear to Clark and the viewers that Lex was alive and responsible for the Jor-El clone's death. Things like that would have made Lex's eventual return so much more epic.

Actually, that was the real Lex in the series finale. Not a clone. He was brought back to life by the Lionel Luther from the alternate universe. He had all his memories but lost them when Tess wiped her blood on his face. She injected something in her blood that would wipe his memories because she knew he would kill her.
@jrcolacola
@jrcolacola 3 года назад
@@wtcvidman first of all, no one's going to read all of that. 2nd, Lex died in this scene. I've seen the show more than 8 times from beginning to end. He had clones but I'm sure you're not counting them as being the "real" Lex. 3rd, The real Lex was brought back to life by the Lionel Luther from the alternate universe in the series finale. 4th, Lex wasn't working with Toyman to kill Oliver. He did it to kill Clark... Did you not understand why Lana and Clark couldn't be together? She had basically became Kryptonite from absorbing so much Kryptonite. Lex was going to use the suit Lana stole to absorb as much Kryptonite to become Kryptonite himself. You should have put 2 and 2 together from that. Lana foiled Lex's plans tho.
@wtcvidman
@wtcvidman 3 года назад
@jrcolacola The Lex in Requiem was not the real Lex. You can choose to believe that he was, but there are too many signs pointing that he wasn't. I think before just ignoring everything I typed, you should take time to read it because there are PLENTY of details dispersed throughout the series (that I watched at least 10 times given how got hooked to the series back in season 2) the series that tell us the real Lex never died. Also the real Lex would not have been stupid enough to be caught in a stopped & abandoned truck that had no driver in it for Clark or Oliver or whoever else that knew where he was to kill him. That's just preposterous. We also knew Lex had clones & owned the Cadmus Labs facility, where they were created & kept, since back in season 1 when he & Lionel bought it to trick the Hardwicks and it was in use since around the time he sent Dr. Hamilton there to conduct his research after the events of Nicodemus. Lex without question produced those clones sometime prior to his Arctic trip as he had the technology to create that lifeless Lana clone back in season 6. Then in season 7, we saw the 1st perfected clone of Julian Luthor in Grant Gabriel. Another thing we saw that season was an imperfect Julian Luthor clone in Adrian Cross, seen in Gemini. When you compare the behavior of the Adrian clone with that of the Lex in Requiem and that of the clone Lex in Lazarus, they all matched that desperate and loose cannon/insane mentality with no impulse control or self restraint, none of which remotely resembled the real Lex Luthor who was instead cold & calculating. Also, all 3 of them (Requiem Lex, Lazarus Lex clone & Adrian Cross) had created scenarios that involved bombs and a character having to make a choice, and the Lazarus Lex clone did almost the same thing that the Lex in Requiem did---forced Clark to choose between stopping a bomb or save Lois. What Toyman did to Oliver was Toyman's revenge, not Lex's. Toyman hated Oliver because Oliver fired him from his last job at Queen Industries & as a result he wanted Oliver dead. The real Lex could care less if Lana was with Clark at that point. If he wanted kill Clark, he would've done it back in season 7. Especially right after he killed Lionel, because he knew Clark knew what he did & if ever there was a reason for Lex to kill him, it was to cover up Lionel's murder. If anything, the bomb that the clone/cyborg Lex in Requiem had paid Toyman to make was just a way of poisoning the suit that Lana stole from him and was an insurance policy that prevented the 2 of them from teaming up to find the real Lex. It could've also been Lex's way to force Clark to step up to being a hero (much like he wanted him to do in Finale against Darkseid) because he knew Lana was holding him down. On top of all this, I find it hard to believe that if that was the real Lex who was blown up, that he wouldn't have made a single mention of it when next he & Clark met in the Finale. And also on top of that, there's the fact that the real Lex's spirit was seen in the void between life & death in Lazarus when Clark was near death after his blue-k dagger fall. Note that the void is NOT death/the afterlife, as Jor-El himself said that if Clark was purely dead, he would not have been able to reach him. So this means that not only Clark was not dead, but NEITHER WAS LEX because that void was NOT the afterlife but like a limbo area between the living & dead. Lex being in the LX0 chamber awaiting his heart transplant would explain his presence in that void. Had the real Lex died in Requiem, he would NOT have been in that void but passed on to the full afterlife long before Lazarus. Like I said, the entire bomb thing was a ploy, and the details of that are seen in the next episode the Toyman appears---Echo. In that episode Clark finally learns to use his enhanced Kryptonian perception after making a critical error. The episode makes it seem like the error in perception Clark committed to activate the temporary mind-reading power Jor-El gives him was that he stopped the bomber in the factory at the beginning of the episode, when the real bomber was the Toyman. But that's NOT the error if YOU CONSIDER THE BIG PICTURE, which includes the combined events of Requiem & Echo. In Echo, Clark finally realizes that the real Toyman would not be caught anywhere near his own bomb, and from that he deduces that the Toyman on the roof of the Ace of Clubs is a fake & it turns out TO BE A CYBORG. Now, if you use that exact same logic back in Requiem when Toyman was seen carrying the toy monkey to Oliver's hospital room, it would mean that there's no way in hell the toy monkey was a bomb. The real bomb was, wait for it----THE CYBORG LEX!!! Yes, just like the cyborg Toyman in Echo contained a bomb that would've blown up the Ace of Clubs had Clark not stopped it, the Lex in Requiem had the same thing within him. This means that Clark not only made an error in judgment regarding his incorrect assumption about the bomber in the opening scene of Echo being the guy who had the bomb vest on him instead of the Toyman but HE ALSO MADE AN INCORRECT ASSUMPTION THAT THE REAL LEX LUTHOR WAS DEAD WHEN HE NEVER DIED. The bigger of the 2 errors was overlooked by Clark even after the mind reading power disappeared. (CONTINUED BELOW)

i didn't watch any of them from 'Bride' til 'Infamous'. I tuned in to see the ending of this epi. 'cause i wanted to see how they'd portray her leaving and for 'Infamous' when I heard my song...then felt dissapointed they wasted it in this epi.

Something's not right you lot, I think I have anhedonia just search it up but basically I can't feel any emotion to any music and any song anymore, haven't been able to feel absolutely anything since like 2 or 3 years ago, I've been trying to feel something by playing anything but it just won't work, maybe my brain doesn't like music anymore? I used to be conscious of music playing everywhere, but for the last 2 to 3 years or so, I'll go into a shopping centre and I'm not conscious of it, it's only when someone says "oh Alec, did you hear that song?" But other than that, I don't hear anything or I'm not conscious of it, I'm kinda scared you lot, what should I do? Just not listen to music anymore? Or perhaps find another song or music that I've never listened too before?

@erosensai A very sad truth! Who better to play Superman than the guy who's been playing him for 10 years!

You have to understand that if Michael Rosenberg doesn't want to work with smallville anymore, the directors and producer can't put another man to do Lex Luthor!!!

eh...I understand. but i very much enjoyed the whole 'Day & Age' album and thought it'd do well at the ending. But I know what you mean why the classic Superman score, but I thought i'd be fitting considering Clark (speculation) might die and Lois might be there with the classic "Superman's Dead" headline. He's already dissapeard once -- what's another couple of months? But I think it'd fit.

@chatrapaul Didn't do anything serious? How about the fact that he killed his own father? The past few seasons all he had done is lie, steal, and kill people. I'm not saying Oliver was right for this, and I'm not saying Lex is beyond redemption, but to say that he didn't have this coming isn't right?

it's amazing how every on the first sight ordinary song becomes so damn good when it plays in Smallville,

that's right but what kind of telefilm will be smallville without lex???its not the same thing without him..the hero can't exist without his "storical" enemy...and personally lex was my favourite character in the smallville's series..so for me smallville finish with lex luthor's end.

So many people here commenting on Lex dying when that never happened. Watch the series again and you'll see the clues there. It's clear the Lex killed in this episode was a cyborg or clone.

I actually think this song works well in this montage. Considering i really disliked this episode. It wouldn't work in the finale. Considering where the finale is going, i see that episode being more of the classical Superman like score.
