As a prior Fortwo owner, make sure you throw in a cross member between the front and back pillars or you’re going to have some serious wobble. The egg is the structural rigidity. Shit is dope though.
Alot of boron steel in a pillars and b pillars. In fire dept this car was one of the hardest things to cut through. I have actually seen a set of Hurst tools break an arm off due to the boron

A hood release cable works great for taking windshields out, put a hole through the rubber and put the cable in and use it like a saw. Diablo reciprocating blades work great for chopping tops.
Having owned 2 Smart fortwo's (one has the similar lift as yours), I submit that you have removed over half of the frame strength front to rear AND left to right by cutting that part of the Tridion frame (exo-shell). Truely hope you add some sort of framing or rollbar to transfer the rearward forces off the "A" pillar and forward forces off the rear hoop (often called the "C" pillar). To illustrate what you have done, research the original Mustang Convertible of the 1960's models. By removing the roof of the hardtop body, Ford was required to add hundreds of pounds of floor framing to prevent the sagging developed in the floor...and they had no off-roading in mind. Best luck

Yeah I'm only watching this to turn into a disaster, poor little Smart, and it was one of the cool ones too! I knew about the exo frame on this thing but I didn't think they'd actually cut it... Boy was I wrong!

I would recommend welding some tubular structure on the thing. It would really help with rigidity and it would look more like a buggy. Just two tubular gamma sections with one perpendicular piece to help side to side rigidity. This piece will also work as a place to put a plastic windshield if you ever so desire. I would recommend watching hooligan's Miata death kart for some ideas for that section

I think the main issue with doing more stuff with the 700 nitro isn't as much about his shoulder, and comes more from the fact that a single round of 700 nitro costs about 100$. I mean i wouldn't wanna shoot that gun 5 times but just imagine having to pay 500$ to shoot 5 rounds

Get you a Sawzall and some bi-metal blades guys, you can dismantle an entire car with a Sawzall... Also, some small steel cable or piano wire can be used to cut out windshields.
lol i love it, i did this on a 1970 impala that was 4 door sedan. bought car just for the engine but rebuilt engine and drove car for 3 yesrs as convertable. wish car company would build working convertible with 4 door.🥰

Scott Sn and Jr have you ever heard of a heat gun for stripping old paint? This would have saved you broken glass everywhere, as this would soften the seal that holds the window in place.

@@S55OAMG Some structures can go from extremely ridgid to floppy with the removal of one member. Just saying. It might be ok but i bet they'll need some reinforcement.
It's going to be interesting to see the unibody fold with no support on the top... Good effort though! But seriously Scott, the car WILL fold after a few good bumps. Might want to consider fabricating some subframe connectors.
Hey Scott, are use a side grinder a lot for cutting steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast-iron… And I have found the best blade is the rigid diamond side grinder blade and a 4 1/2 inch. It seems to last forever and I have not found anything it won’t cut. I am not sponsored by or paid by rigid I buy every blade out of my pocket.
This has got to be one of the most fd up projects ive have ever witnessed. I am so looking forward to seeing the end results. And I watched your atlas ball vs. 9mm gatling gun earlier and I have a suggestion. 250lb atlas ball vs 700 nitro magnum. Make sure there the solid brass rounds. Why do you think they call it a sawzall? It saws all. I use one with the Diablo steel demon fire and rescue blades almost every day at work. Auto body...
@@BM-hb2mr Not when you know how to use the tool. I've cut, drilled, and welded all different types of automotive steel. Including HHS boron. A little bit of cutting oil and a steady pace with the right blade will get you places nobody has ever been. Saying this because robots weld cars together anymore. Just because you weren't able to, doesn't mean someone else can't...

Well removing the roof is removing alot of the structure that stops it from folding when you go over a bump. So you may want to do some reinforcement for off roading.. And for next time you can cut the sealant around the window easier with heavy twisted wire. Use a longer blade to make one hole to the outside and feed the wire through. One person on each side hold the wire with vise grips and saw around the sealant.
Coming from someone that has performed extrication and trained on extrication of over 50 vehicles you should have used a reciprocating saw you could have been done removing the roof in literally 5 minutes or less. Also you can use the reciprocating saw on laminated untempered glass.
