How to Set Smart Goals and Achieve Them - Setting Goals is crucial to your success in any walk of life!
Smart Goals, long term goals, short term and personal goals are all important to have - we all KNOW it and we hear it all the time...
But the problem is that we typically resort to making very vague and/or very unattainable goals that just leave us feeling disappointed, and embarrassed or we set really mundane simple goals and don’t push ourselves to what we’re actually capable of!
I would argue that it’s a worse place to be in than if we had never set goals.
So today - you and I are going to GET SMART
And SET SMART Goals together, because when you are CLEAR on what you want - it is SO MUCH easier to achieve it.
You’re probably wondering - WHAT IS A SMART GOAL, what does SMART mean?
THE Definition of a SMART Goal would be something that is:
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Timebound
Common goals that will hinder your happiness are goals such as “I want more clients, I want to make more money, I want to be healthier or I want to lose weight” are NOT specific enough, and if they are not clear and specific, it’s difficult to figure out how to even accomplish them.

So let’s quickly reformat those examples into being SMART and then together we can break down MY personal goals for this year, and how I plan to achieve them!
BREAKDOWN EXAMPLES
I want more clients
= I want to take on 2 new $1,000 clients by the end of the month
I want to lose weight
= I want to lose 15 lbs by July 1st

See how those already seem a bit more achievable?
When you ARE specific, there will be a voice in the back of your head that helps you make decisions!
Do I want to eat this cookie? No, it won’t help me lose 15 lbs
Do I want to take on this $500 project? No, my goal was $1,000 so I feel content negotiating for more or walking.

Let’s take action on a SMART Goal
Another GREAT example as a Creative Freelancer - we’re ripping this directly from my virtual mentor Chris Do because he is a MASTER and I want more people to hear this:
Let’s reformat the goal GOAL of “wanting Financial Freedom”
You could say that every single year, and you could make more money every year and still never achieve that.
Specify this - let’s say that I need $10K / Month? $120K/year for peace of mind and happiness.
Measure that out and weigh our options - 1 x $10K Client/month, 2 x $5K, 10 for $1K
Attainable - weigh our options to make this attainable - 1 x $10K Client/month, 2 x $5K, 10 for $1K
Realistic - As a solopreneur, 10 projects/month is a lot of work, so we’re gonna aim at 2 x 5K
Timebound - We have until the end of the year, maybe we only need 2 clients that want to work with you every month
From here, your options are going to open up but the main idea is to GET CLEAR BEFORE YOU TAKE ACTION.

SMART GOALS
Let’s break down one of my goals for this year.
If you look at my channel right now, I have 58 uploads EVER, but I want to DOUBLE that.
ONE OF MY GOALS IS THAT I WANT TO UPLOAD 100 videos to my RU-vid this year, that would make me feel happy and very accomplished in comparison to my past performance:
S - Uploading videos, where? To RU-vid
M - How many videos is that? 100 Videos = 2 videos per week, 1 x 6-8 mins +, 1 x 45s
A - Attainable/Achievable = How do we make this attainable? I can dedicate two FULL days to RU-vid every week
R - Realistic / Relative = We’re going to make 1 FULL-LENGTH video, and 1 Short, I’ll hire someone to shoot BTS
T - Bound by this YEAR
Now that we have this information we can actually start making this goal a REALITY.
And now YOU are keeping me accountable! I’m going to have to upload another 99 videos this year because I said that I would.

It really comes down to ANALYSIS PARALYSIS - the fact that if you don’t have a target to aim at, you’re aimless and the more time that passes the more stressful it is. Achieving the things that you want in life can be AS EASY as writing it down because you’ve actually put it out there.
