Another great rig, well explained. Great stuff. I've been experimenting on the most productive way on fishing the PVA bag. Add a loop to the hooklink so you can loop on a new one to the swivel when needed. Use an avid stem, so you can prepare bags in advance and just loop onto you leader or mainline when needed. Use the fox rapid system, really easy to make bags up tight without any tape. Tight lines 👍
Forgive me if I sound thick but does this mean every time I catch a carp using this method I loose my weight onto the bottom of the lake? If so I don’t think it’s that smart.
Yes this means you lose the lead, but without the lead the hooked fish will swim much higher in the water, making it much easier to play to the bank when the lake is weedy. If the lake or fishing situation is free from weed or snags then you can attach the inline lead conventionally so it won't drop off.
Just ended my long blank streak at walthamstows 2/3 reservoirs and landed my first carp from there, my pb of 27lb 7oz. Came on one of your white wafters soaked in some liquids, thanks mainline.
Great video I stick the hook through the bottom of the bag to prevent the bait spinning around the hook also dont need pva tape to tie I just wet fingers pinch twist and hold for a few seconds. Gonna try the pva friendly goo never done that keep up the good work.
nice vid i really like the measurement bord your working on.. but i do have a tip ore what i would like... if you would show the end product first and then start the rig. so i can see for a few seconds. oke this is what we are making.. now i skip to the end and then back.. im learning. started young and now picking up fishing again.
Does anyone find the pellets stick together too much once the pva has melted when using the smart liquid? I have done tests and they seem to just clump together. Any help would be appreciated!
Fantastic vid john and would like to thank you for all the tips on making my own boilies and the links you sent to all the vids I would find useful 😁😁😁 all of the vids were brilliant and have everything I need now and ingredients ready for running some testers 👍👍👍 I take my hat off to you for your help as there are many bait makers and anglers that have shied away from saying much on the subject a d your the first that has really guided me in the right direction 👍👍👍👊👊👊
Blimey these Saturday's come round quick John! I always turn my pva solid bags inside out and don't have to worry about tucking the corners in at the bottom just my little way if doing it. Another good demo mate! 👌👍👍
I really enjoy these videos you do. Big mainline user, really like the smart liquids. Currently using the cell & fruit smart liquids. Keep up the good work 👍
That was a very informative video. The rig is so simple, yet so effective. It has been a while since I used a PVA bag and the tuition in this video was my method to the tee! the explanation was so simple, that even a beginner could succeed. Good work Mainline!
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Hank Cooper i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for the chanel I use the product and tech info here in Arizona Just can not bring my self to leave my lead on the bottom Even molding my own Thanks for the info Buckeye Az
Yet another brilliant video. Keep them coming. I Used the snowman pop rig the other weekend and what a difference. Me catch rate has gone up ill have to try this one 👌as well
In most cases, yes the lead will discharge on the take - so in clear water conditions, where there is no likelihood of a hooked fish getting stuck in weed or snags I'd use a standard inline lead set-up.
It depends on what flavour would match you flavor of boilie best, but the Cream version is a great all-rounder - blends well with most boilies and good on pellets.
Wow just what I wanted 👏I feel so much more confident in my own approach now. Your videos are so informative it’s hard sometimes to see and take it all when this sort of advise is done on the bank love the studio . Thanks again 🎣 mainline no1
@@nickcross2900 For the hookbait I'd go for something fairly small and wafting or popped up so it fill sit above the pellets; Pastel Barrel Wafters, 12mm Balanced Wafters are perfect as are the Toppers for a popped up presentation. The Spod & PVA pellets are then great as the fill because theres so many different sizes in one mix - so they breakdown at different times and fill any unwanted air pockets helping you make a compact bag.

Hi John for day sessions I am using solid bags more and more as it reduces the amount of gear I take on spod and marker spod mix bolies etc etc . I as you have recommended tie them at home in advance and keep them in them dry and inject liquid into the bag on the bank, my question is how long can I confidently leave them tied up that I know the little mainline wafters I use won’t dry out or not act how they are designed as I don’t get on the bank much at the minute. Thanks in advance
Yes you can... but don't add the liquid until you get to the lake. Instead insert the nozzle into the side of the bag and add the liquid just before casting out - you'll see how its done in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qXCTzhGaCiY.html
Superb and very informative 👌 with this rig using supple braid is there any need for a sinker just down from the hook eye? I noticed one was not used in this video, cheers John 👍
Brilliant video thanks! For someone new to pva bags, can I make the bags up in advance using the smart liquid? How long would they last in storage please?
Yes you can, as long as you keep the PVA away from moisture - so it is possible to make bags a week or so in advance. Although if making bags in advance I find it better to make a small hole for the Smart Liquid nozzle in the side of the bag and squeeze some in just before casting out.
Another banger john, I've never been a fan of PVA I guess I just got bad luck with rain so avoided it, after this vid I'm considering avin another bash on next trip, 1 question tho I use anti tangle sleeves n qc swivel so is this way still possible as u didn't, many thanks looking forward to next vid already lol
Yes you could, but as the rig can't tangle in the bag and to also keep it nice and short I just tie the rig straight to the ring swivel. Another little tip is to make up a few bags (at home before your session) and keep them in the tup with the pellets so they stay dry - any mishaps or after landing fish theres another bag ready to go!
Have not long got into carp fishing, and lookingbat giving solid bag rigs a go this summer, get a nice concentrated patch of groundbait around the hookbait. The one part with a lot of demo's of how this rig works, shows a lead that drops loose when reeled in. Does the lead have to drop off? Does it majorly impact the effectiveness of the rig if it doesnt? Am not sure i want to leave the couple of lakes i fish cluttered up with leads within a few seasons lol
No you don't always need to use a drop off lead system, but... if you're fishing a weedy situation, dropping the lead makes landing fish a whole lot easier.
The best, easiest and quickest way to attached the bag/leader is loop-to-loop. So tie a loop in your main line large enough to pass the bag through using a figure of eight knot.
Great video again John. Ill be using these tactics in couple weeks. Ive got bait ready :) smart liquid is so good I won't leave home without it. If people feel uncomfortable with shrink tube or the steam part, you can buy some korda kickers to help with that.
Hi im new to mainline baits couid u tell me how the smart liquid wouid work in a coloured water situation plz as im using cell for the first time on a new water and want to maximise my chances of landing a lump with it
Hi Ethan, in weedy or snaggy fishing situations it can pay to drop the lead as it becomes much easier to land the fish as they generally swim much higher in the water, so tend to not get stuck in weedbeds etc. In clear water situations this is not needed and the inline lead can be set-up in the standard way.
Great video as always very instructive will try the same set up next trip never used a solid bag many thanks John just a quick question if you don't mind me asking I live in Plymouth and I'm thinking of fishing upper tamar as I have watched a few of your videos and you have been on South west lakes fishing your self do you have any advice or tips many thank Tom
Hey Tommy, yep solid bags can be a real winner - especially on venues where the carp like pellets. As for Upper Tamar... firstly a lovely lake with a good head of carp, and its fishing really well at the moment. Its a big lake at around 80 acres but don't be put off by that as you can normally find some fish in most areas. The carp will follow the wind and do like the margins so don't ignore a rod in the edge, and in most cases fishing at catapult range is a good bet. There lots of silver fish so boilies of 15-20mm size are my number one choice, with Cell and Essential Cell doing really well. Apart from that speak to Aaron in the tackle shop as he knows the lake really well and can help point you in the right direction. Tight lines over there fella!
Many thanks John must appreciated I've done a lot of research but never had first hand knowledge of the lake so every little helps many thanks never know may see you there as its in your neck of the woods many thanks again
Hi Andy, without the Smart Liquid or where the Smart Liquid isn't in contact with the PVA its only a minute or so - a little longer around the tail rubber where the bag is tied and the PVA is more dense. Because the Smart Liquid is PVA Friendly it will prolong the breakdown time of the PVA - a handy edge when you're fishing in deep water and want to ensure the bag is well on the bottom before melting. In this video you can see with the Smart Liquid in the middle the bottom of the bag melts first to expose the hookbait then the middle of the bag and remaining feed a little later.
Generally speaking, the carp will become less active, so pick venues with a high stock of fish where having some active carp present is more likely. Attraction rather than quantity can be key where baits are concerned, bright hookbaits such as our Hi-Visual Pop-ups coupled with a match spray can be a real winner. As we've mentioned the fish can become quite dormant so don't be afraid to recast, and move around the lake where possible until you find the pockets of fish. Hope this helps a little, we will have winter tip videos hitting the channel soon!
Thankyou for replying I’m just curious because I bought the ready made solid bag leaders from Korda and I was struggling how to fit it onto the safety inline lead system. Are those two compatible or would I need to make my own leader to go on the inline lead system?
@@cuthbert95 If you use the ready tied PVA bag leaders korda you would need to remove the swivel already on the leader and then attach to the safety sleeve of the inline kit loop-to-loop.
Hi Carlos, here's a link to our Spinner Rig video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5dZ6_KnTZ7U.html We crimp Boom material for the boom section in this video - so simply substitute that with a coated braid and use a grinner knot to attach to the Spinner Swivel and a figure-eight-loop-knot to attach the rig to a quick change swivel.
Thanks! I don't really go over 3oz as coupled with the weight of the pellets the overall bag is fairly heavy, meaning you need a shock leader and of course a capable rod. So I much prefer 2.5oz where possible.
I'd use the rig the video Debbie - just a simple Hair Rig using soft braid a size 6 hook and a Pastel Barrel Wafter that will sit nicely within the pellets.
I love this product but I noticed you didn't put the smart liquid at the bottom of the bag? I've found if you do this it prolongs the breakdown massively of the PVA and pellet around the hookbait. This is great in deep water but I've found if you are after "a quick bite" the smart liquid soaked pellet and hookbait can stay in a solid mass for ages with the hookbait literally trapped, especially if tied up in advance. It seems like a waste of a bag and bait but always tank test your solid bags before a session!
Yep Ben you can use the Smart Liquid or other PVA friendly liquids to prolong the PVA dissolve - great in deep water like you say. With this bag it was in the middle so the bottom section melts quickly to expose the hookbait with the centre of the bag dispersing attraction for a little longer. Thanks for your tips!
It seems logical to turn the PVA bag inside out first, so as to avoid having to lick and stick the corners. Not many of the experts show doing it that way however. Why is this?
How long in advance could you make these up before the smart liquid soaks into the pellets or ground bait? Thinking of making a few up the night before to be ready to go when I get to the bank.
The night before should be fine Dave - even if the Smart Liquid soaks into the baits a little it will still react. You can also squirt the Smart Liquid into the already tied bag just before casting out, as you can see in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qXCTzhGaCiY.html
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Cool, thanks for that. I’m coming back to carp fishing and to say it’s changed a fair bit since the 90’s! lol Your videos have be great for getting me back up to speed.
Great video other than the lead drop system . I never see the point to it. Losing all the leads why put more cost on what is already an expensive hobby/sport
bite85 SHG I'm a Mainline-fan but the lead-setup is stupid !!! Beside all the conversation about leads being toxic or not. Think it the other way round...., where is the difference between leaving a lead (just for a more easy playing or catching) and throwing an empty beerbottle or sweetcorntin into the lake? AT LEAST ITS ALL RUBBISH and this should not happen !!!! There cant be any justification than ones own egoism alone. Rigs should be snagsafe, for sure, but this is different .....and sometimes its better not to fish in snags. I can remember times when real carpanglers avoid such areas (and everybody agreed) ..... we were fishing for carp...not just for publicity whatever it costs.... If you are a real natureloving carpfisher....... DON'T USE IT !!!!
