For people who have watched the 19 mins and still don't know the context, he is talking about Francis Ngannou and Dan Hardy. Dan Hardy is the talent scout for PFL and apparently close to getting a deal done for Francis to join the PFL.

hit so many facets and stayed on point, schorched earth, and i learn again another facet of the sport looking at things from the perspective of a promoter/investor etc. the hard facts. think your right. and this made it clear how the fighters and promoter should be one team instead of having just fighters unite... i think this is clear to me now and they should try a better way :]

I believe I really understand Chael and have for a about 2 years now. I’ve been watching much longer than that. It took a while for it to click. But he really is a necessary agent of the sport and business. If you want someone who acts as a foot in the door and way into the official conversations, he’s the representative for us. And he translates what goes on and feeds it directly to us. He does use a bit of indirect communication but he has to. There’s levels to this. And he’s at the top

@ChaelSonnen I always keep telling my friends that if you think that what chael brings to people on his RU-vid is just for entertainment they must not be seeing what you are telling them. Straight knowledge from start to finish, I’ve been writing some stuff down since when you were on a microphone with your feet up, there is no way that this knowledge isn’t enough to build a brand / RU-vid channel etc.

For context, give Chael respect on this one. His organizations are 100% the prestige of the PNW fight scene. I’ve only fought once (at Midtown, and those guys are great - Colby fought there!), but I’ve cornered, coached, and travelled with teammates all across Oregon & Washington and everyone knows - I mean everyone - that an FCFF title is the most prestigious. My best friend has multiple belts on his wall - FCFF, Budo Fights, some small Super Fight belt, and a few NAGA. FCFF is at the top and always will be. Moreover, I’ve heard professional fighters go and grapple in that same cage for SUG and say, “it’s different.” Idk if it’s the color of the cage or the structure of the Roseland (it’s pretty unique), but all the events there have a different feel. They feel professional, they feel organized, they feel like there’s a lot on the line. That’s also where the toughest/scariest fights are. If you think Ricky Simon is cool and tough now, imagine how scary he was when he was a guy on the local circuit circa 2014! Don’t even get me started on SUG!! Cage jits matches were this badass trendy thing but like BudoJitsu felt a lot like an exhibition, rather than a real legit sport. So I figured SUG would be the same way up until I saw it live for the first time. I remember saying, “this is so much better than watching a tournament.” BJJ guys stall and run, but with a cage, it’s a whole different game. Cage wrestling isn’t something you just intuitively figure out, so this form of grappling felt like MMA guys could have a real shake & I was just waiting for it to blow up. Then you start to see these huge names on there, it gets on Fight Pass. Now, and I might be biased, but I think SUG is now the premiere organization for pro BJJ. ONE is doing big stuff and I love it, same with F2W pro - but Craig Jones. I mean, it’s a no brainer.

In the restaurant business when you Open your first store the chance of the boss making profit for the first 3 years isn't likely. This is after bills for the business, payroll, personal bills,and taxes. To break 0 on your taxes for the first few years is doing really well. I think this is where people get that saying. However that is only for the food industry as far as I know.

There's the idealist, the realist, and the company man. Sometimes people wear hues of both. Colby's a company man who's getting paid and making money for himself and his dance partners. Henry Cejudo has definitely upped his fight salesmanship; in doing so, he's provided an incredible store of value in the form of his perspective, breakdowns and training footage he's shared with DJ and Bones. Its all about the value you've demonstrably brought when you're a part of something; gate tallies, PPV numbers, trend data around your events. We all love the pure competition, but we also love the hyping of the fight and those who do it best win the biggest prizes ($).

It's Chael's slow, constant, patient beating of the point home that's finally got me realizing how similar of a business the UFC is to the WEC. What makes money is the same thing. Now the big difference everyone already knows is in the UFC the competition is real. Even though in the WEC the amount of injury those guys get doing that choreographed stunt work is probably the same in the UFC the person in the cage with you is trying to hurt you the whole time. Other than that they are the same business.
