The space goes down considerably, you can still fit about 2 medium bags in it though. It's not as unpractical as everyone suggests. Very easy to live with.
you mean the folding hardtop? if so then yes its standard on all models, no activation required, all bmw z4 made after 2008 have this straight from the factory
Looks very nice but what happens when motor fails or it jams? Cannot imagine getting much change from a couple thousand pounds. Also too much weight, the key to a sports car/roadster is lightness. What is it Colin Chapman said? Put a more powerful engine in = you go faster in a straight line. Reduce weight = you go faster everywhere. This is just a boulevard cruiser, if you want proper roadster/sports car get a Mazda MX5 (budget), Lotus, Alpine (midprice) or Porsche or Jag (high end). Simples..
You shouldn't operate the roof while driving. That's why BMW designed it like this, because by doing it while driving, you put too much strain on the motors and components, leading to the mechanism failing

thanks, I just brought a 2011 z4 30i and I was wondering how to open to roof from the outside with the remote. Another video held the button down the hold time to get the roof back. I will have to try both ways to, see which way works for my car.
Wow - So Cool I have had a BMW 320 Coupe for 1yr and a half - Had a Renault Wind before this and I do miss the Roadster look and the Sporty roof off etc and off course the looks. But the Boot is errrmmmm - Small
what kind of wheels are those? size and brand? I'm actually going to get me a 335i convertible instead, don't get me wrong, I love z4 but I like the fact that the 335i convertible is a 4 seater, but god that z4 is sexy as hell too though....also, does opening your top while driving messes it up?...
How much it costs to installed or is it already pre-installed? Also, what's the maximum speed to drive while using the smart top feature to open or close?
It is :-) It is an incredible force the roof has to withstand. Older z4s are not designed for this... Bought a 2010 Z4 where the pre-owner had such a 3rd-party-box. At the end the repairs to make the roof work normal again was like $3500 - glad It all popped up within 6 Months after buying, so the car dealer had to pay it.
