Whenever Pixar animates robots I gain a year of life.

Must be a sad life to have been programmed to know a high five, and not being able to actually do it.

Pixar said SparkShorts is where they give Pixar filmmakers money to create whatever film they want, something that tells a story about them. This is why I love these shorts so much! They tell a story about something, or some things, the film maker experienced or feels. Very powerful!

As I did with WALL-E, I really enjoyed the sound design in this short, especially the ''voices'' of the two robots.

Y’all are talking about the sound design and the lack of dialogue but CAN we TALK ABOUT the fact that the taller robots expressions are conveyed so well with just a lit triangle?? These animators and character designers are brilliant

Pixar does love it’s rogue AI

One's a shovel that's not the keenest robot around, the other's a hammer that's surprisingly cool and elegant for such a blunt implement. Within roughly 8 minutes, we see how deep their friendship is, their characters, and the struggle that's worn them down for an unknown amount of time. We see them comfort and reassure each other, and even risk everything to protect each other... and finally find a strange sort of freedom, now stuck together with something they're much more fond of. Probably my favorite short film of all time. Years later and I'm still watching this over and over. I like it when Pixar animates nonverbal, expressive robots, what can I say? What I'd give to see a full-length film seeing these two... Where they end up going, if they'd still be chased, if those sleek fellows living it up in those towers are any friendly.

amazing how you can fit more relatable characters and motivations into an 8 minute short than some people manage to put into full length feature films

Leave it to Pixar to tell such great stories in a little amount of time and with no dialogue.

TBH, short films where there’s no dialogue, and the characters are portrayed through their actions are my favorites. I love this!

This is wickedly cool, I love it. Robots forced to work together on a space train seek freedom together after growing to like one another. It's such a simple, yet so bizarre idea on the surface, but is executed extremely well here given the time and budget. A super powerful story

Don't you just hate it when your umbilical cord restricts your movement.

When you're so advanced... That the rich continue to rely on slaves for basic needs.

This seems like the setup for a great co-op video game.

And this is why you don't give a fireman robot 100x magnifying capabilities. He was clearly overqualified for the position.

Pixar don't even need faces in their characters to create emotions

Pixar’s SparkShorts are one of the most amazing ideas they’ve created so far. To see other aspiring artists in the fields work and undeniable talent is an amazing and inspiring thing, especially for someone who’s dream is to be in that chair behind the movie.

The vibe I am getting from this is, smash the rich, grab the means of production.

Der Film hat mehr Tiefe als ein 90 min film. Spannung, Action und Freundschaft. Sowie die grandiose Animation.

I really liked this, a lot more than Purl. Cute little short story in a fun setting to explore. Also liked how they went from being separated to being attached to each other.

That was a great mix of friendship, overcoming obstacles and stations in life, love and sharing while satisfying the Sci-fi nerd in me.

The expressions shown by yes the eyes but also the body movement is so good. I love how they move it feels like they have personality and are real

Ooooo I love these Sparkshorts! As someone who is going to major in animation they make me very happy. The ability to tell such a compelling story without words is nothing short of amazing. Edit: WOAH!!! I’ve never gotten more then maybe 10 likes on a comment. I’m so happy people like what I have to say. Good luck to anyone who reads this and is hoping to go into animation like me. Second Edit: I HAVE COMMITTED TO SCAD!!!!! Yay!!!!

I love how you can make complex emotion with just simple robot aperture eyes.

this short is so interesting. the 2 robots don't desire to live amongst the upper class, they desire autonomy. they don't seek to destroy the bourgeoisie, they seek to live out their lives beyond the reach of society. their escape was violent, yes, but only because it appeared to be the only way.

It's amazing how these animators can create a story filled with emotion using no words. Great job to everyone who worked on this!

This was dope. A Pixar short about two robot slaves breaking free from their oppressors? Yes please.

Honestly I could see a whole movie come out of this, while the steam powered train seems a bit out of place, the idea of two robots that break free from their shackle and enter a city in which no others are like them; could have an interesting plot.

Great animation overall! Beautiful lighting and shadow work. I find it amazing how much expression could be put into robots who cannot speak and do not have normal facial expressions. I give a solid 9/10! Pixar's back at it again!!!
