To me, its less fun and more preference. Mario has tons of good tools to combos and what not. While Doc also has combos and power while trading his Mobility and Agility, plus his recovery. They both are the best and fun.
@@medecko4394 I'm glad he doesn't have a lot of combos I love doc but damn his combos are already filthy god forbid he had combos like normal Mario lol
Seeing Mario in a doctor’s uniform effortlessly throwing characters like Bowser and Ridley over his head is amazing, especially considering the fact that it’s one of the best back throws in the game *RULES OF NATURE*
Not gonna lie, this is actually a pretty good video. Shows a lot of potential and combo expression for the character. Hope to see more people try this guy out cause of this video.
The success I've had with Doc makes me think his placing on the tier list is all wrong. He feels like just a slightly worse Mario, the gap in their potential is small, and it's just a matter of underrepresentation that keeps Doc looking bad
@@richcast66i love doc to death, he's one of my mains alongside G&W and maybe soon dedede, but i can't deny that he *is* one of the worst characters in the game. having bad mobility and a bad recovery in a platform fighter is an immediate death wish, and his kit doesn't give him enough to counter those weaknesses super effectively
@@shyguyissoawesomeguys I actually just made a realization the other day. Doc wasn't carrying me, I was the one carrying the doc. He no doubt has shortcomings, but instead of that holding me back, it made me have to become a better player because of my persistence to keep playing him. So, just like how Mario can really help new players build good fundamentals, doc does the same, except with a handicap, and it made me a better player overall.
Literally friends with one of the best Docs in the world. Doc and wolf kinda got that same idea of being chunky but awesome versions of another character.
Ive been a Doc main for damn near my entire life span playing smash. I already knew almost all things covered in this video so I was like yep, talk to em. I did notice sum extra little combos like jab1-upb kill confirm. Never saw it let alone have I done it before. Im doing that next time thanks. The dash attack-delay short up air-tornado combo. ion know if that's even a true combo to kill. The up throw combos, there's almost no need to reverse up air unless u want back air to finish the combo but u normally do double up air or up air-upb & then maybe follow up with percs depending on what the opponent does after. other than that, since I mained Doc for almost 8 years now(yes we talkin back in smash 4), the rest I pretty much knew till it was muscle memory. I forgot u missed on 1 thing about Doc is that he benefits a lot from extended dash grabs if that's what the tech is called. Because he slides feet first, when u input a dash grab during the startup frames of dash attack, it cancels the dash attack & he'll dash grab from where his feet were first. When done right, you'll see him extend his body out more to grab from further distance. Anyways, this is a W video, happy to see this finally drop & thanks for the small extra things I never knew were there for me to do wit my character. 10/10 vid
@@zenferns my bro put me on first to brawl just b4 smash 4 released. I didn’t have any idea what was it like. Then I started getting addicted to it the more I played. Then smash 4 & onwards I started being pretty good at the game but then learned about the competitive scene. At that point I was still looking who can be my main tho Sonic was my most played but I wasn’t sure yet. But samsh 4 is where I found my real main in Dr.Mario which sounds weird but then I thought to myself, “What if I’m built different”. I started thinking maybe if I taken that next step to be a great player, I can make sum noise in my area but that shit wasn’t going well & still hasn’t today but I still keep up with the game & watched tournament sets here & there to get better at matchups I’m just washed at or hate to play against. I have a huge list of characters I play put I always stuck wit my guns in the Doc since I am most consistent with than everyone else so yeah. God I said a lot & yes, My Doc is very good & my friends get PTSD when they box my Doc even tho they play better characters than him.
@@zenferns no cap ion know what it is😂. I just looked at him and said what if ion need to play top tiers to be nice at the game. Ion know, maybe he combos differently from the rest who can freestyle wit their combos. He ain’t the best at it but I can make it work
Heads up, jab > up-b is only true if you hit it on the inner-most hitbox which has slightly more hitstun. That means dash into the jab first so you hug your opponent.
GRACIAS IZAW IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE So many of the neutral and corner pressure stuff I would do unintentionally and inconsistently (cuz I'm a masher), but the applications you showed in this video are helping me learn how to put purpose behind my every move. You teach so super duper well! And again, thank you so much!
Funny enough, I tried looking up this video 3 days before it was uploaded. I figured it already existed and wanted to check it out because I am now playing Doc seriously. The timing was almost perfect
A very useful and informative video as always! Would love to see an Art of Ganondorf. A terrible character maybe so, albeit a very underrepresented one that I feel is most certainly not even close to fleshed out
I was actually really excited and waiting till you post a guide for Dr Mario. There's not that many guides on him and there's not many people that play him, you explain things with great detail and I really appreciate that.
Wow, very nice video! I actually never took into consideration as to how safe up-air was on shield. TBH, I wrote the Doc guide on smash boards, and I still learned something new. However, I noticed two things that weren't mentioned: -Doc can double jump out of full hop pill. -Doc's fastest kill option is jab > up-b, but has to land on his elbow hitbox to connect.
I really needed that lesson about starting to apply corner pressure with dash away and whiff punishes or staying in shield instead of always going for more pressure. I have a terrible habit of always going for pressure first THEN trying to mix it up and I see now why that has been so unsuccessful for me.
Same! I’ve shelved him for the time being, I haven’t done very well trying to add him as another main, but an Art of Smash video might be what I need to try again
I've been playing Doc since Melee and honestly I always picked him because he was on the first gameboy game I ever had. Over the years it's been rough hangin out at the bottom of the barrel but when Ultimate dropped it really felt like he was given his flowers. Doc in Ultimate just feels like the perfect simple character with numerous upon numerous responses that end up helping out in a ton of different situations and match ups. I don't care if he's at the bottom of D tier if you're good you can SMOKE a couple brackets with Doc.
"He's a low tier..... Blah blah blah....." is what I hear whenever he is being talked about. He's an S tier in being awesome and fun to play as!!!! Suck that Steve and Min Min!
Dr. Mario has helped me master B-Reversing and rar'ing so much, that he is now my co main. He really pushes you to be more conscious of your fundamentals
Coming from P+ doc player, these combos are cleaner and more versatile than I expected. I find it's very important to practice mixing up your approach, maintaining some neutral pressure. B reverse pill and cape while airborne are great, fastfall or DI in nair/bair. For quick kills I like to roll behind down smash, grounded up b, back throw, down b will also kill if you use it right. On P+ I can hit Fairs all day but havent had as much success in ultimate. Love how every hit feels earned. I typed a whole comment and deleted it oop. I like this medical professional so much that I rewrote it.
