Taxi hits central reservation and causes substantial damage to the offside front wing and suspension, i have calculated an approximate estimate of the cost involved in repairing the damage.
Great video as always Alan! - nice to see monika shes looking well :) - oh and dont disconnect the EGR on a Mondeo 1.8tdci 2009 as it "does" bring up engine management light!!
B-jesus, I have the Focus ST and the Headlamp alone online from ford (cheapest) just under £600, from the Stealers it's just under £1k. TBH Alan this repair is a lot cheaper than I thought. However - bloody brilliant vid as usual, really enjoyed it keep it up!!
So with 170k on the clock of a 17 reg motor, that would have been a write off. The fact that you can do it, Alan, along with the fact that the car earns enough to make the repair made that possible. I guess a lot more secondhand bits could have been used? Great video, great skills, you should be proud of yourself, Alan.
cheers tiguan, funnily enough that price was for the insurance company..they wrote the car off lol but the taxi company bought it back to keep it on the road
It was actually cheaper than I thought. I did a quick estimate and guessed around 4000€ . Of course all of that was without labor costs. But your boss is paying you anyways, so you had to sit around a few hours less :D
Well not so much rare, but the Mk5 didn't sell anything like the MK3 or 4 as it got overtaken by the avalanche of SUVs, so comparatively speaking it is on the rare side, unjustly in my view.
Seen as though there are so many Mercs and BMWs on the roads, I suppose it might be worth using those as taxi's as there must be plenty new generic and second hand parts available.
Allen What a great video mate ford parts cost are so expressive if it was my car I would have bought all the parts from a car breaker for couple of hundred pounds roughly Phil in stoke
Hi Alan , Do you do servicing and cam belt changes on customer cars ? I have a Mondeo Mk5 titanium x that’s done 125,000 and recently inherited it off my late farther so want to look after it , and you seem very thorough in what you do , I’ve been ripped off by mechanics with my mk4 titanium x so could you please let me know , thanks Alan 👍
Nice to see it all repaired, last saw 1st hand in recovery yard at work . Alan you sill got a bracket for abs sensor that fits onto the shocks ? Ford price for drivershaft are a joke , just replace them on a mk4 petrol with aftermarket ones come to £140 for both
Nice 1 Alan costly repair I thought you might have used the one you were breaking for most of the parts but obviously it didn't have these parts on it , hope the driver pays for his careless driving
Alan question for you maybe you could answer on ur live this Thursday,,,,,, DPF how well does the mrk5 cope with regeneration as the mileage gets higher,, any information on day to day running on this topic would be great,,,,,,,,CYAAAA
Somehow unrelated to your question, I just feel the need to tell you that my Mondeo MK4 2008 still does regen at 226000 mls no prob. Had some problems with it a while ago, cleaned it myself about 5 years ago and no prob ever since. Hopefully they kept the same reliability on MK5. Good luck.
Hey Alan I have a question on the dynamic LED headlights do you have any Mondeos/Fusions in your fleet cabs ? If you're familiar with them are the compatible with the standard headlights on them cars in Europe? I have a 2014 Ford Fusion SE sedan in America that the same basic as your Mondeo the US version Ford Fusion went from 2013 to 2020 as your European version Ford Mondeo went from 2015 to 2022 thanks
How does the MK4 Driveshaft differ? Did you change the outer CV joints on the MK4? The haynes manual states never to take the outer joint apart. Any clues on that?
I think he said he always bought mk4 drive shaft complete and the price was so reasonable it was better than doing a CV joint as if the outside was gone the inside one was the same age. The mk5 is a rip off for everything.
These cars are rarer than most on the roads including BMW and Mercs and are probably hard to find second hand parts for though I would think there are some non franchised parts you could get. Of course you've lost rent too.
Baring in mind you got your parts from the main stealer I actually thought it would cost more than that.. if the care earns enough for the company week on week then the repair costs wasnt too bad provided it doesn't get smashed up again before youve recovered your costs.
Haven't seen the complete video, yet, but watching a few minutes I am surprised by the changes between this Mondeo and what should be my identical (American) Fusion. My base model Fusion has plastic wheel covers, a sure sign it spent time as a fleet car. The front grille is (apparently?) different, on American models the grille bars are straight from side to side, and not " stepped " IIRC. And finally, that plastic panel on the boot lid (black plastic?) was never a feature on American models, it's always painted body color. I almost forgot, my base model car has a strip of chrome trim along the bottom of the windows, higher trim models got more chrome all around the windows. Your car does not appear to have any chrome there, yet it has alloy wheels, an extra cost item on my car...strange?
Hi Alan, completely unrelated question to this video, but I was wondering how the dpf's hold out on these cars? I have heard most are full at around 300k?
Hey I have a 2014 Ford Fusion SE 1.5 ECO Boost gas powered and 2017 Ford Fusion Titanium Hybrid on the US version are you familiar with them motors I would like your take on them from your European prospective from your Mondeo ownership experiences so I can see the pros and cons on our Fusions/Mondeos thanks..
Hiya Alan I have just purchased a mondeo titanium x business edition it doesn't appear yo have the heated and cooled seats was this a optional extra at the time
At least, if no french garage is able to repair my MK4 titanium, i know i just have to drive 800km and cross the English Channel...easy peasy! :) Your only froggy viewer^^
When I rented a taxi you paid up the insurance excess over the first few weeks of the year. After that it was down to the owner to either claim or get it fixed outside of insurance.
151.02 for Headlamp Assembly from Ford? Damn i need to look up our Ford prices more often... And keeeping in mind most cars are driven from left side of the car so that one should cost more then ours here in Finland. Anyway Nice job as always! Cheers! Timppa
@@alan4x Cheers! Here MOT has to be done by 3th party. To do service and MOT in under same roof man here ... ....what i would give to live in place without back stabbing.... But i like our snow so... Cheers Alan ! ;)
I ball parked it at £3.5k, so don't think I was off at all if you'd have used a gen Ford drive shaft. (Did the driver get the "don't bother turning up for work on monday" award?) lol
i thought 2k, must be covid + brexit... is there a slump in taxi trade, lots parked up? if thats the case, why spend to fix it, for it to sit in yard? that monnie is still a very fit bird... keep up the good wurk young man
