SMC Ornate A52 (labeled Victorian Ind. Co. model R-A52-M) in white/polished brass, still in the original packaging. This fan is one of the earlier in-box vintage finds in my collecting life, the original video is among the oldest on my channel. I've always liked this particular version of the ornate A52, and generally speaking it's one of my favorites in the A52 lineup as a whole with its many generations and variations. Hard to say why that is for me, I think the finish combination along with a bit more streamlined design make all the elements pop more for me. I like ornate fans, and stencil always makes a white blade better, so it really just has all the callback elements I like from earlier designs, from right at the time when ceiling fan design was evolving and going more transitional to contemporary in a lot of ways. It does have the later 80s motor, so it's not quite as good as earlier A52 fans, but still a really solid performer and overall decent quality. Noise level of the motor and bearing issues are usually the true defining factors with SMC of the period. This one isn't silent, but it's not the worst I've seen at all, and the bearings are quite good noise-wise. The original downrod had gotten rather scratched up at one point, so I swapped in a different one, which you can maybe see doesn't quite match the slightly off-white of this fan. I'm not sure where the original rod is now, at the time I figured a slightly different color looked better than very visible scratches, and I wasn't really repainting things often back then. It may have been repainted and used on something else since then for all I know, but I should repaint the one used now to match better, sometime.

I got one of these in Polished Brass 2 days ago, and put it up this morning. Bearings are unfortunately dry, and it's pullchain screw is broken.

One of the nicer low speeds I've seen on a 3 speed fan.

What is the differences with the later 80’s motor besides the color

Every time it changed, it got smaller. That's a pretty standard succession with a lot of these lower to mid-tier brands from the 80s into the 90s.

One of a few model names that have turned up, but this one isn't boxed under SMC so it wouldn't be applicable in any case. I don't bother with most SMC model names unless I have the box that expressly says what it is. They sold the same fans with the same model numbers a million different ways to a million different retailers, and the names could vary. There's no way to keep track of it all, so I usually just stick with the model numbers.
