This is BEAUTIFUL! Please consider that this type of discussion would not be possible if the GOP is allowed to enact Project 2025 and eliminate the Department of Education. Doing so would allow parents to silo their children in like-minded for-profit schools that would not permit such an open discussion regarding our nation's history. And this goes both ways. Hearing disparate points of view is the way we learn. The fact that any historical textbooks that go against the chosen school's dogma will not be allowed to be taught is enough to shut down this kind of discussion within one generation. The students will simply never learn any information that might contradict their parents imposed belief system - allowing the student to consider both sides and choose for themselves. Kudos to this school and a huge thanks to them for sharing it with us.

There were taxes and tarriffs which lead many Southerners to fight against the Union but Chris is right about the popular symbol known as the Confederate flag was never really a symbol of the Confederate Government at all. It was only used briefly by the Army of Northern Virginia in 1865 and then the starry cross has been used only in media and as a hate symbol after that.

@@designationzero9979 The confederate constitution, Section 9 on article 1 keeps the federal government from denying men their right to have slaves as property. In the union, you couldnt have slaves, and so the confederacy only put that in the be a direct difference from the Union. Not to keep the Union from taking away their slaves. Also, the flag was used KKK members and white supremacists during the 50s and 60s because it meaned something different to them they really had no idea about. The fact is that the flag that was flown on the U.S tanks during WW2 and on many people's land here in the south stands for something it did over 150 years ago, pride to the south and its heritage. You cant see the way we view the flag, and that doesnt mean you can take it away from us. Anyone who steps on our property to do so can expect to be met with a coach gun.
