SMILE Smile (the album) is Katy telling a story to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, about heartbreak, self-love, recovery, and finding new love. The record contains twelve beautifully-crafted tracks and each song must be grouped into three to better understand the story it intends to convey. The album is not just another playlist but rather a perfectly- curated presentation of songs. The first three tracks: Never Really Over, Cry About It Later and Teary Eyes depicted her heartbreak and pain caused by loss or failure of a love. Love here may refer to her music during the Witness era, which was met with lots of criticisms and was not accepted well by her fans and the general public alike. The next three songs: Daisies, Resilient and Not The End Of The World painted her strength and realization of self-worth. These songs are her reminders that her value is not based on what others think of her or the things she has or has not accomplished. Smile, Champagne Problems, and Tucked talked about her healing and recovery as the song Smile says, “she finally got back that smile”. In Champagne Problems, she realized that her heartbreak and pain are actually not that big of a deal. Aren’t we all as soon as we have moved on over a certain pain? The last tracks: Harleys In Hawaii, Only Love, and What Makes A Woman described her newly-found love and happiness. An extremely deep realization has dawned upon her resulting in the decision to focus her attention on the things that matter most in life: her husband, her baby, and her music regardless of how her art will be accepted by the public. At the end of the song What Makes A Woman, the album’s outro, she says, “ There it is, Katheryn”, which means that she has concluded telling the story to her little Katheryn and has just laid out a detailed narration about her life. Katy Perry has just put out her best album to date.

Omg, One of the Boys remains superior as a body of work. That album takes you on an emotional, visual journey. ‘Only love’ was great.. but some of this album sounds dated already 🥴

This is the pop album I was waiting for... Sorry, Chromatica :( This just sounds so fresh, and every song is such a unique production. So many styles, yet so cohesive. Brilliant Katy Perry!
I enjoy both albums--and Gaga's one of my albums--but I think Smile is just a little bit better in terms of cohesiveness. Either way, the world needs both of these albums. ❤💜
As a monster, I approve this message. Although, they do have different takes on healing. Chromatica is more on escaping the pain through music while Smile is about facing your problems. I love them both and we need them.
IDK why but whenever KP realises a new songs people always compare her to previous album prism like this song should on that album and then complain that she is playing safe or not giving much variety but from my perpective she is THE ARTIST to provide diversity in music if just look for it as seen in 365 although being a bop it is not given that much attention , and whenever she tries to do something different then she criticised harshly even if that song is good as we all have seen that in witness era. Like STOP she has come soo far and even after giving so much varity in music you don't think she has grown, that it sound like a personal problem to me.

It's funny like in Taylor's "my tears ricochet" first verse talks about actual funeral "We gather here, we line up, weepin' in a sunlit room" and Katy's like "It's not the funeral we're attending, actually just the beginning" - listen to TS when you're mourning and then turn up Katy when you have had enough of cryin' and you're ready for some healing
Hey-o! First-time Commentator! Probably because I'm not the biggest expert on music myself and just gravitate to songs I love. I do think your reactions are really honest, pure, wholesome and you are incredibly approachable while being very entertaining. As most people say you snatch the viewer in and keep them enticed! :) That's a gift. So I'm just going to share my own rankings real quick. 1. Cry About it Later (Excellent follow-up and place in the album after the iconic Never Really Over. It's really good and has Dance Dance Revolution vibes which just makes it memorable and ageless.) 2. Resilient (I really vibe with how it is the perfect blend of a calming, soothing beat while also having these incredibly hopeful, powerful lyrics which combines into a perfect motivational song.) 3. Never Really Over (Besides Katy Perry serving Mother Gothel realness in the music video and the choreography, it's just a gorgeous track and very fun.) 4. Not the End of the World (The pop equivalent to a RPG Final Boss Battle BGM. Or at least a trailer song for one. EPIC from beginning to end.) 5. Only Love (Pendulum from Witness and Double Rainbow from Prism had a baby and it's beautiful and endearing :) ) 6. Daisies (Cover me with DAISIES this song is so touching and definitely one I've listened to a lot. My only nitpick is I prefer the instrumental of this song that was used in her Live On Good Morning America performance of this song but it's still amazing on it's own.) 7. Champagne Problems (It's serving Disco, it's serving Abba, it's serving Witness, it's serving some Prism, it's just an awesome song!) 8. Teary Eyes (Fabulous song. I especially love the club music vibes the sound conjures, like an image of you pushing aside your sadness to embrace dancing under the lights at a trendy club as the DJ blasts this song.) 9. What Makes a Woman (Love the indie vibes, love the breath that was stolen from how sentimental and powerful that 'There It is, Kathyrn' statement is. It's a great closing track.) 10. Smile (I actually think this song is very fun and I love all the videos associated with it but I do think most of the other songs on this albulm hold a bit more pizzazz than this one. I still think this is a great single choice on her part and it's still great. No song on this albulm is truly bad at all.) 11. Harleys in Hawaii (Poor HIH. I think it's a great experimentation of a different sound and vibe in pop music and I love the high note she pulls off in the climax of the song but I do think it just falls short of being a great song. Still a guilty pleasure though.) 12. Tucked (I'm not really vibing with this song when I'm listening to it sonically and so it's a song that to me I wouldn't listen to multiple times so I respectfully put it on the bottom but I'm not hating or discouraging or shaming anyone who loves this song. It's just not for me.)
