This song means a lot too me, im 16 and my father makes me feel like shit all the time, calling me names. im not a bad kid, I do good in school, and Im home in time for dinner and whenever my curfew is He just pulls at me where he knows it hurts. I like Smile Empty soul a lot and metal a lot too cause it tells the truth without bothering to glamorize it. the genre is so blunt, and i like it! But this song in specific tells about the front families put up to make themselves look good to society

Love this band. Love their sound and love the fact that they write about things that actually matter in the world. They're underrated, no doubt, but I'm happy they're not a hugely popular band. That tends to spoil most bands, and I don't want these guys to change!

This isn't exactly my style of music, but I always find myself coming back to them, their lyrics always stand up for all the kids that had dysfunctional families, or just shitty childhoods in general. It really hits me, and they always bring up a lot of good points. People see anarchists and wonder "where did their parents go wrong?" but in reality, 99% of the time, it's because their parents were abusive, or not there at all. They capture the horrible process of growing up so perfectly.

The bass line of this song is amazing, yet I don't see anyone on youtube making a bass cover of this song :( only shows that only the mainstream bands with shitty basslines and guitar riffs get the attention, but great bands like these are always under-rated grr..... when I get my bass guitar, I wanna learn this song :D

I know. I love this band. I find that band that repeat the same word over and over have a better shot than bands that actually have substance to their lyrics. For instance the band that I won't name that says "Baby" thoughout and is famous and a teenager at most. Smile Empty Sould did have a big hit for Bottom of Bottle though it on the radio still, although not as often as it used to be.

And it's now 9 years later and it's even more relevant now. Amazing that when I made the first comment, I was 32 years old and remarking on when I recognized the songs relevance when I was 25. I'm now 41 years old and I feel like this song was written for me way back when. It's evident that we either forget or we get so bogged down that we don't try to correct the wrongs we actually faced when we were younger.

True, there are bad situations... Children beaten, abused, molested, thrown aside... But, the majority of kids these days that whine about their life being so hard, and their parents being this or that have no idea what life even is. Their parents wont give them something, so it's the end of the world and they "don't understand" them. Most runaways today occur over pointless bullshit. It takes away from the actual tragedies that do occur, and the strength people have to live through it.

As I'm 90% sure I mentioned REALLY early on in this conversation ages ago, you can call social services and things, get fostered (not the best solution) but neither is living on the streets in my opinion. I never implied that you shouldn't do anything in those situations. Just not live on the streets or resort in force, as that wouldn't solve it in most cases I think.

Frank Thomas I stopped listening to iTunes because there is much good stuff gone and too much of the new watered down crap on there. Everyone listens to Bruno Mars or Lady Gaga WTF? I tuned into Spotify and found a lot of these great bands like this awesome band.

@EddThe19th the problems they are highlighting are not just unique to america, some of these problems have spilled into Canada due to close proximity to the nation. Granted the problems in the states are compounded by an economy struggling due to Iraq and several other factors but this is a problem that quite possibly plagues most of the developed world and if the world as a whole continues on this course OUR children's future is bleak regardless of what we do.
