I was thinking the exact same thing. While I hate horror movies, I watched this one and loved the metaphor they were eluding to. Also the fact that we're the ones who gives trauma it's power over out lives. It was dope to me. 👌

Hereditary was one of the best horror films ever! At the end I was like what?!?!

Toni Collette is such a fantastic actress to be sure.

Yah that hereditary scene always reminded me of the grudge. The girl ghost did that too in grudge As far if the smile thing, it reminds me of Lights Out

Yesssss! That kitchen scene was perfect! It was unsettling and uncomfortably terrifying, rather than being another cheap jump scare.

And the cinematography was amazing, BUT gotta give credit to audio team as well. From the scare moments to just ambient sounds in the background during "trivial" moments, the audio had me buggin👌

Same, I was so anxious. I desperately wanted the movie to take a break so I could relax and breathe, but they kept on the gas! I was so uncomfortable and I loved every minute.

And that scene when the girl was in the dark smiling man straight chills down my spine. Visually the movie is pure terror n the reveal of the entitiys true form is the stuff of nightmares

There were so many grown men screaming and talking back to the screen when we went. It was funny, but sorry refreshing to see men sitting in their emotions. Lol

I agree with part of this. But its definitely not the only horror film that has a main goal that isn’t just scaring ppl. For Smile, it was mental health (tho some ppl felt they approached it insensitivity) but for other Horrors it was something else. When I remember examples I’ll come back. But the mental health thing alone is not enough to call it a “classic”. Smile derives from SO many other horror films it’s crazy. It Follows, Fallen, Drag me to Hell, truth or dare, Ring, It, and Lights Out and couple more. Now I know every film has atleast one inspo so that’s fine or even 2. Nothing wrong with it but Smile got the longest list I’ve seen so it owes lots of its success to those movies before it. Apparently if the mental health subject was enough to get movie standing on 2 feet , Parker (his 1st film) would’ve only done that. But apparently felt he needed all those influences. So no Smile isn’t original enough to be a Classic. It took a specific scare out of It follows. But I feel horror been declining lately so Smile was nice. Same for black phone.

Many ppl felt that jump scares were over done and many were spoiled in the trailer but glad you enjoyed it

@@lessismore8533 I'm talking about the scene with the patient smiling in the kitchen or the scene where the mom turns into the entity. I don't watch trailers for that sole reason. There more to horror than jump scares.

This movie will make you wanna call the cops next time lol........ Sorry to say that, but if that's happening to you now and you can hold it together, this is gonna change that lol. Jus reading this had me ready to move🤣🤣🤣

They pull off the creepy smile by not smiling with their eyes. Big smiles, showing teeth, but dead eyes with no warmth. The only time someone smiled with their eyes was when the monster confronted her directly, and it was TERRIFYING.

Yup. When I watched the mini Ring 2005 film I felt the same way about the protagonist. Kept my eyes glued to the screen like how he gonna get out of this. But that was back in the 2000s. Nice to see Smile bringing it back

Yes finally! Someone said it. I don’t think Smile would exist without It Follows or Truth or Dare
