The Celtic gods are underrated. Everyone just ignores them or doesn't bother reading about them. I'm glad that they're getting some major attention in Smite.
fun fact, when Cu Chulainn was dying, He crawled to a standing-stone, and tied himself up using his intestines so he could still fight an army and die standing. they only knew he was truly dead when a raven landed on his shoulder.
Smite seriously upped their cinematic budget, awesome work! Though the 2d drawing reveals were equally well done, I love the lore of these mythological characters.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames These are all real gods in real mythologies and historical religions. One reason I love this game so much since I'm a huge mythology nerd.
We will be doing them all and will keep that in mind. Having them kept in description of the video will help us tracking better and we will carry them over for each vid 🙂
I highly recommend you check out the Hindu gods in Smite. They have some of the most interesting lore and creative designs and playstyles, probably my overall favorite pantheon.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames there is also two god reveals for bakasura because he got a look redesign I recommend doing only the new one to keep the video from going too long because both play the same.
I'm honestly surprised they added Shiva because it had been a LONG time since they had introduced a new Hindu god, due to the controversy over the last release which I think was Ganesha. Since it's an actively worshiped religion they have to be very careful about offending people, and even though they did their best, a lot of people still got super bootyhurt over it. This is also the reason we will NEVER see Christianity introduced, although I think it'd be kinda cool to have archangels and Demon lords playable :P
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Awesome! It's worth noting that some Pantheons are much smaller than others. Celtic was in the middle, but some like Yoruba, Babylonian, and Slavic only have two gods each, and Polynesian, Voodoo, and Great Old Ones all currently have one god. If you want to look at them I'd recommend doing a single video looking at all the smaller pantheons because they have some really cool characters in them!
Actually, Hindu gods are the most straight, not creative. TitanForge obviously don't want to alienate their Hindu audience, so they do it as close to the book as they can.
fun fact about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (since you said Cu Chullain was like them) Mr. Hyde is actually described in the novel as a small ugly man who had something off about him, Mr Hyde has never been a monster, just a twisted man
@@MasterZeus94 I know, despite the spit personality becoming iconic, its so much more interesting when hyde is just a way to do evil without being caught
I love what you're doing with the Smite draft!! Smites my main game and the last Smite video I was mad at because whoever gave you that playlist....didn't really pick any of the good more recent ones. After the God draft finishes up maybe you can revisit the cinematics and really see what the game has to offer...the cinematic in the Cliodhna reveal is what modern Smite cinematics are more in line with....and the Nevercake videos are pure gold.
It's funny, some of these gods I've never personally played or forgotten about. There's so many gods now, so it's good to watch these again and refresh my memory. I like how Artio is basically. "I exist and that.. Yea that's it.. Make sure people live and die and I'll just be here sleeping." I hope you do something similar with League characters at some point. League of Legends has some good lore too.
Cliodhna is pretty OP at the moment, and Artio was definitely solo lane meta for a very long time. Morrigan also enabled the dual Cthulhu strat (using her ult to copy him) which is SUPER hard to stop, so I think Bethany won this draft. Not that Cu Chulainn is bad, or Cernunnos, they're just not as strong as the other three comparatively :P
If you didn’t know the Celts were an ancient people thought to originate from southern Germany but eventually made their way to Ireland, and Scotland and the gods and goddesses they worshipped include Dagda, Morrigan, Lugh, Danu, and more
So my atheir (father) is visiting from Belfast to see his grandchildern. Just went down stairs after watching me watch these reaction, laughing and complaining about how they gave cu chulainn the short end of the stick (which is me cleaning up what he said, Da has a colourful way of say somethings). So thanks for the smile and you both have a great day and STAY SAFE.
Cu Culhain's berserk form is based on the warp spasm or riastrad. Obviously it is kind of a hulk out thing. But it also relates to one of his fights in the Tain Bo Cuailnge. Where he spasmed out as he was the only protector of Ulster for a time. And all so a queen could have an equal bull to her husband's.
Hey guys Ubisoft just did a video explaining all the lore of For Honor it would be cool if you reacted to it since I remember that you were pretty confused watching the trailers
Random fact you might enjoy: Artio has a Bloodborne skin. Not OFFICIALLY, of course, but that's what it is. Even the bear form becomes more of a BB beast, which I get a kick out of.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Oh yeah, they do a lot of that, actually. There are official crossovers, too, like in your other video with like Avatar, Ninja Turtles, even Transformers, but there are a BUNCH of unofficial nods to other games, movies and so on. Just distinct enough to not be a copyright issue, but you clearly know what they were going for.
Oo, this is going to be a fun series! And really there's nothing wrong with clipping down the reveal videos to just the lore and abilities, those are the main pertinent things to get the flavor of who they are and how they work...plus, there are SO MANY that even just going through the pantheons one-by-one the videos will still get pretty long. This group only had 5 gods and the video ended up a half hour long, some of the really famous and popular pantheons have over a dozen gods to check out. Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology are...shall we say, well-represented lol. Quite a few eastern gods too, between the Hindu, Chinese, and Japanese cultures. A fair smattering of Mesoamerican gods as well, from both the Aztecs and the Mayans (go CHAAC, I effing LOVE Chaac!). The Nevercakes videos ARE cute and silly, but whether or not you include them is entirely up to you IMO. They mostly seem to just humorously restate the contents of the lore section of the official reveals, so aside from being light and entertaining they're a little redundant. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them, just that in my eyes they're not strictly necessary and when you get to longer videos that have a LOT of gods to cover they may add a little bloat to the runtime. As much as I love long videos from you guys, maybe the solution there would be to break up certain pantheons into multiple videos. Just depends on how much time and stamina you guys have for doing these vids.
Yeah we will have to break up the bigger pantheons. And appreciate feedback on Nevercake videos. Hadn’t realized that they already go over the lore for each character. And for the more well known ones it will be much but for these it helped us learn a little more and get that repetition in 😇
I cast my vote to omitting the Nevercake videos. They are fun little videos but they really just seem to say what's said in the lore portion. If you leave them in it's just redundant. Now doing the Nevercake vids as a separate video would be fine. Can't wait for you to get to some of the other Pantheons!
Considering there's a ton of Gods and Mythologies and that kind of stuff, I know a very handy dandy channel that knows a bunch of myths, Achilles, Perseus, even Cu Chulainn, Red does her research on sources too, with many kinds of stories, including Jekyll and Hyde in H.P Lovecraft, I recommend watching their vids considering she's got LOADS of myth vids and even trope talks.
By the by, Red does many pantheons, Egyptian, Japanese, Norse, Chinese, Greek, and she does some of the Celtic gods, like Cu Chulainn, his death and even after was amazing to learn to about.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames then Slavic, Sumerian(Babylonian) or Yorubian. Unless i forgot someone they are currently the smallest (2 in each). Then we have Baron Samedi of Vodoo, Pele of Polynesian myths and bloody Cthulhu on their lonesome
I don't know when the next Celtic God is going to be added to Smite, but whenever they do decide to add another Celtic God, I SINCERELY hope that it is Brigid. Brigid is arguably the most important Goddess in the entire Celtic Pantheon. She is the Goddess of Spring, Healing, Poetry, Fire, and Blacksmithing. She also has a romantic involvement with Cernunnos where they are actually husband and wife. Their marriage and union maintains balance in nature and ensures that the cycle of life will continue, and it is one of the principal events celebrated during the Celtic festival/holiday known as Beltane (April 30th-May 1st). Brigid is so important to the Celtic mythologies that when Christianity was taking over Ireland, the Pagan peoples there still refused to abandon their worship of her, even though Paganism had been outlawed by this point. In the end, the Christians had to reach a compromise with them to get them to convert, and as part of that compromise, Brigid was officially canonized as a Saint.
If you do the Hindu Gods keep in mind that Smite got into a little trouble with some depictions, this is due to the fact that Hinduism is an active religion observed by people to this day, the deities of Hinduism aren't seen as myth or old stories, it's a real faith for many people, but you are more likely to see Vishnu as a video game character then you would see Buddha, Moses, or Jesus. Most of the issues were skins related, and how many see Hinduism as "exotic fantasy" and not as a serious faith of many people.
Could you react to all sea of thieves trailers? It's a pirate game and has collaborated with Disney and brought a whole original Pirate's of the Carribean storyline
Never cakes is hilarious. But he only just recently made another smite video. He's been gone for awhile. So there's like 2 or so years of gods missing. I'm a diamond Cu Chulain, Cernunos, and Artio. I love Artio she's a tank so the damage is not super high, but she just brings so much to the table. The cuts were good. I personally would of recommended cutting out the gameplay tips at the end of the lore videos. If you don't play the game they just won't make sense. The only suggestion I'd make is do Nevercakes after the real lore video. Not only do I think that'll make the more abstract humor funnier, but it'll put the jokes into better perspective. My favorites are the Hindu God's. I even use the Hindu flower as my profile pic in game and for a while I was the top Ravana in the world for kills and wins. THAT WAS BEFORE HE GOT A MILD REWORK AND BUFF!!!!
Good idea putting Nevecake vids at the end of the videos to get the humor more. Will give that a try 🙂 And congrats on being a beast in Smite 😁 💪 Way to represent 😎🤟
There was a point in my life where i thought id never be religious and found the concept rather silly. Sometimes i still do find it silly but as i grew, my love for nature and maturity did as well. When i discovered druidry and Celtic paganism i found a faith that really spoke to me. So it is that i chose to devote my faith to the Morrigan. There are many gods in the Irish pantheon but she is my favorite. I still dont think very highly of gods but she, Brighid, and Flidais have my utmost respect. I pray to the Morrigan to protect my family and friends. I look to her for guidance and answers. She is a comforting figure for me. When i do tarot readings i address her and sometimes she appears to me in my dreams. Shes been really nice to me and I really appreciate it. If you dont believe in this sort of thing i understand i just wanted to share my personal experience with the Goddess. Praise be to the Morrigan and may she kick eternal ass in Smite. If youre looking for cool stories involving irish gods my favorite book series is a good choice. Its called The Iron Druid Chronicles. Great books, really fun urban fantasy story.
Will the whole killing of the dog is kind of iffy at best and one version he killed it with his bare hands. Another version he took a club like a baseball bat and just hit the dog in the head with a rock. Also the whole thing him turn into a monster is much more gruesome. Cu caluin instead of turning into the incredible hulk both of his feet turned backwards. One of his eyes gets sucked into his skull while the other one falls out and Blood starts gushing from his. Forehead while he grows Claws and fangs and while he's in this warp spasm he kills everything in his path. These spasms were so deadly that he killed his own son that he didn't know he had. Also if he eats dog meat then he also turns into one of these spasms he can fully control it but sometimes people take advantage. Of his spasms in one story they tricked him into eating dog meat. And he killed a king.
Bethany definitely got the spanky team this time, CC and DoT gods tend to be pretty strong in Smite's general meta. Nevercake is ... never a wrong choice either.
The newest God Reveal is out as of yesterday: Lancelot, Knight of the Round Table A KNIGHT LIVES TO SERVE! Any time that you feel like playin some Smite, you can hit me up as LordMortarius ingame. I'll be happy to teach :D
I'm not a smite fan but I really love mythology and my favorite myth is Cu Chullain (his berserker mode is called a warp spasm and I'm mad the game didn't mention it, also his spear is known as the Gae Bolg which if thrown with his foot and hits someone, bards shoot out from it basicly turns you into a human thorn bush, its really interesting and I'm mad his trailer didn't say warp spasm or gae bolg) Also, I really don't understand why they focused so much on the warp spasm for his moveset considering in all of his lore, it only happened twice, once when he was a kid and once after his friend was killed, some tellings of his story don't even include it because its so unimportant, its a weird thing to focus on.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I feel nortic would be my favourite overall but I mostly just like individual myths, In would recommend you hear the story of Gilgamesh but smite changed it quite a bit to make him not hate the gods
The Celtic gods are a treat, and it's interesting to see what you think of them! Also, when can I expect the reaction to Marvel Vs Capcom Hyper Combos by Noxxa?
The new video format of Nevercake into the lore is a very good format for the entertainment you guys are looking to provide. I play SMITE and the gameplay tactics can be lengthy for people who don't play the game. I agree. If you want my honest feedback, I enjoyed the video but it was disappointing that the husband got all the males and Bethany got the females it was just cliche and you know......kinda sexist. Not in a rude way just ya know outdated. I don't mean to offend. As a whole I loved the video. Great content and I'm subscribing as of now.
Its a shame that An Dagdha or the Dagdha isnt featured. Dagdha is the good God. Not good as in moral. Good as in good at everything. Husband to An Morrigu or the Morrigan. Master of Agricultural, seasons, war, druidry and witchcraft.
