Blues and heavy metal. Stratocaster and Les Paul. Kotzen and Smith. It struck me like lightning. Is the best piece of new music I've listen to in a long, long time.
Dude... Give ASAP a listen. It's the project Adrain left Maiden to do. It's a little heavy on the late eighties production, but he kills it on vocals. There's a Maiden B-side called Reach Out that's worth checking out. It even has Bruce Dickinson on background vocals.
@@superdave7241 I see but I don't agree that RK is channeling anyone. RK and that person coincidentally happen to have the same voice and style of singing
Richie Kotzen is the greatest rock musician we have right now. His collection of songs is beyond compare. His competition has to be the artists from the past - the Eric Claptons, Aerosmith, and Rolling Stones. Nobody can win against those guys of course since their positions are cemented forever but there's nobody making timeless unforgettable music anymore besides Richie so I'm stuck comparing him to the greatest of all time but you know what = he holds his own and that's an incredible feat and nobody else will do it besides Richie. A true unknown superstar.
To hear the purity of Adrian's singing even after all these years (going back to the Urchin days!) is just incredible! Thank you both for this amazing collaboration!!!
It'd be wonderful, if people would start listening to 'real music' again. Where artists play 'real guitars" and actually sing 'real songs' that aren't generated on a computer!! Keep rockin" peeps!! Love it
lol yes he has, he started off in Urchin, in fact Maiden were really interested in his rounded skills, also ASAP was really good just not quite heavy enough for the Maiden fanbase it was marketed at, and he's done a bit of of iconic stuff with Maiden like 'Wasted Years' live chorus is a big fan fave, and he's done lead on a couple of B-sides and there's other really good bits and bobs he's fronted.
Try the ASAP stuff if you haven’t. I think 14 yr old me at the time was too hard on that stuff bc I was just mad he wasn’t in maiden anymore. I jam it regularly now.
Adrian and Ritchie are the greatest combination since peanut butter and jelly.....Full stop!!;!! If you don't agree you don't know rock and roll!!!! FULL STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feel the same. And who knew back then in the early Shrapnel days that Richie would be doing stuff like this all those years later (we are all the better for it!) Fantastic, gritty stuff.
Adrian’s been singing since the early days. That’s early/mid 70’s (first Evil Ways, with Dave Murray) with a certain band called Urchin, who funnily enough, used to open for Maiden.
Adrian's tone sounds absolutely KILLER on this track! That goldtop is a thing of beauty! And his vocals are simply stunning! We need more of Adrian's singing! :)
I agree. It's really great to hear the different base of sound of the Strat and the Les Paul come through. Both sound really nice on their own and even better both together close to the end of the track.
@@keefriff99 if you haven't checked it out already, go listen to the Silver and Gold record. It's a shame they took it out of streaming services recently. He's the lead singer on all the tracks: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SGqbblGdRHU.html
@@Pyuras Being a big Maiden fan, I've long known about Adrian's A.S.A.P. side project, but just never got around to listening to it. Loving what I hear so far...killer! Thanks for the link.
just turned 52 and back to rockin out on my bass even a possible reunion for my band from Vancouver Canada called Mushroom Trail the album and singles came out in the early 90s album called My Medicine 1st single Pine Valley look it up on you tube or go to My channel Mushroom Myke on you tube ditto bye
@@deborahguseman9927 first time i saw her was in the live video with Nicko McBrain, and i immediately thought: this lady is pure gold, for the gig, and for a guy like Ritchie Kotzen. I'm just super happy for him, and for her.
This is fantastic work! Music industry is broken down if these guys are not in the mainstream and we all have to dig for their music. I wish someone would start recognizing this phenomenal talent.
Metal will never die, nor the blues, or rock n roll.. I'm a player, been playing for more than 40 years . Cut my teeth on maiden, sabbath, priest...now my sons, especially my oldest boy, ..raised him on sabbath....he's a fuckin shredder.. plays circles around me, and I'm not no ameture..Hendrix, iommi, Oliva, dimebag, , bothe the guys in maiden, bothe the guys in priest, I could go on and on...and on..I love rock nroll, blues metal, whatever flavor....rock n roll will live forever!!!!
Holy Crap! They totally compliment each other and blend together beautifully. Richie is amazing as always, but Adrian is the hidden gem here - who knew he had such a good voice! #Blown away!
Wenn es mir zum Kotzen ist, dann höre ich Kotzen - Gitarrenrock vom Feinsten! Es besteht noch Hoffnung, so lange es solche handgemachte Musik, solche Künstler gibt und immer wieder welche nachwachsen!
Knew he had a decent voice, but this is definitely his best vocal performance in my opinion. Can't wait for this album, his best collaboration since he put psycho motel together.
@@davidoriordan1393 it's great how both albums were 2 different types of rock 1st was a bit led zep style although heavier and the second was grunge rock both vocalists were great and Adrian what a song writer, wrote some of maidens best tracks too
GOD DAMN THIS IS UNREAL!!!!!!!! WHO KNEW ADRIAN SMITH HAD THIS INSIDE HIM. AND KOTZEN IS SO TALENTED IT MAKES ME SICK. THANK GOD THERE ARE STILL MUSICIANS LIKE THIS STILL AROUND TO MAKE THIS INCREDIBLE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve always liked what almighty said about ; Hold fast to your broken heart because there’s more to come! It is comforting but we’re still alive to remember the spear but if you just let go till we are finally angels that do not have no pain ever never ever at all!,,
Adrian Smith is the most underrated singer, songwriter and guitarist in the world,he can do the lot!!A very peaceful and quiet manbut one of the greatest of all time!
Wow- when Ritchie starts singing- holy crap his voice is just SOOOO good... immediately reminded me of Chris Cornell (RIP). Just so powerful. Adrian is no slouch either- and has great tone on that Les Paul- but Ritchie just puts this on a whole other level.
Every time I her their stuff I can't help but think "this is the way Rock Music is supposed to sound." Never want Adrian to leave Maiden again, but love to see these guys explore tis more.
@@ukaszzurawski3547 I think there was some kind of petition or something to get Richie to join Soundgarden after Chris Cornell's death. I could totally see him being a perfect fit.
Agreed. His work for Iron Maiden is superb and important, but a true artist is always growing, especially in expression. Music is a journey, never a destination . . . 😎
Why am I just hearing about this now? I’ve admired Adrian’s playing a long time with Maiden, who knew he had a great voice as well? And Ritchie, forget it; everything he does is amazing.
I have to disagree mate, i mean his voice tone is similar to the late Cornell albums, but the singing is completely different, Richie more soulful, bluesly voice, R&B Funk influences, nothing to do with Cornell singing.
No introduction needed for their guitar work and Richie Kotzen's vocals are great as always. But Adrian Smith, man he sounds like Glenn Hughes, such a powerful, deep and bluesy singing. Why did you hide it from us all those years sir?
@@kingdiamondfan4032 Everyone who heard the Maiden b side Reach Out in 1986 or on the box set in 2002. Or the ASAP solo album. Everyone except noobs, basically.
Adrian is still so creative and daring in his mid 60's unlike other guitar legends of his generation who are mostly retired and just live on past success.
Adrian's voice sounds amazing, I have heard him singing Reach Out (a cover Maiden did) and of course A.S.A.P., but his vocal performance here is outstanding.
