Man I wish we had internet back in the 90’s . I would have watched all of Smiths matches I would have watched his instructional videos. The kids today have a goldmine of wrestling techniques right at their fingertips
@@michaelsnyder6922 I suppose it’s just a matter of opinion. The case for Smith is that he has more free-style world level golds than anyone and was basically unbeatable during his time. Sanderson went unbeaten in college and did well at the world level and then as a coach. Gable also had a near perfect college record and did well in world competition. BTW, the entire Soviet staff put most of their focus on beating Gable but no one scored a single point against him in the olympics in ‘72. So I guess it’s more that John Smith stayed wrestling longer than the other two so his record is more impressive but I feel like Gable or Sanderson would have done just as well had they focused on continuing their wrestling careers instead of coaching. I am a fan of John Smith and was born in Oklahoma and almost went to OU to wrestle a few years before John Smith in the 125 pound weight class. What are your thoughts?
80s commentators will always be the best commentators lol, seems like the rules changed after this match took away the periods and just had an entire match being 5mins. Hmm, but great match
