As always a really great review which I enjoyed very much, I recently decided to add the 6.5" version to my modest collection. However the two pellet versions that I examined in the shop had barrels that had a quite lose fit to the main body of the gun. The amount of movement was enough to put me off buying one, I then decided to have a look at the BB version which had a much more secure barrel to body connection. Although there was still a very slight amount of movement, it was so small that I decided that I could live with it. However the cylinder latching mechanism had about 1 / 1.5mm of lateral movement when the hammer was uncocked, however this greatly improved when the gun was cocked and an additional lug deployed from the bottom of the main body via the ratcheting mechanism and engaged with the underside of the cylinder. As you stated the chrome finish on the gun is absolutely gorgeous and has a subtle appearance equivalent to a polished stainless steel, as opposed to a really shiny / glossy finish that some chrome plated guns can have. The hammer is very firm when either cocked or uncocked, unlike the Dan Wesson 4" 715 revolver that I also have, which when uncocked has a fairly lose hammer. However the Dan Wesson's barrel to body connection is absolutely rock solid as is the cylinder latching mechanism. I also like the full length underlug design of this pistol, which is one of the design features that I find so appealing in the Dan Wesson 715 models. I hope these observations / comments don't come over as being too negative because overall I am pleased with gun and don't regret buying it especially as I think that I may be able to slightly modify the latching mechanism to improve its action. Cheers Andy
All great points mate. I held 3 or 4 before choosing mine as it had the least wiggle. Totally get where you’re coming from with that. I don’t know if it affects the actual inner barrel or if it’s just the cosmetic outer one so may not have any bearing on accuracy. Lovely pistols though, I agree. Still need me a 6 inch 715 then methinks!
Dude so good to have you back!🎉 Since your last videos i have gotten the Sig 1911 emperor Scorpion, its awesome! Looking forward to more content from ya!👍
Another great video ! I too was undecided as to which one to get (the 5" or the 6½" version), in the end I bought both, lol 😉 The shells are the same as the Umarex Colt SAA pellet shells and this is carried over to the Umarex S&W model 29 too. The gun feels great right from the moment you pick it up, those Pachmayr style grips really make the gun feel so solid in the hand and exude confidence in the gun. These really are a great replica revolver, definitely of the same quality as the DW715s, which is no surprise as they're made by the same company (Wingun, out of Taiwan). I purchased the BB versions, as they were released first and then had a full length rifled inner barrel retro fitted to them as Umarex have a habit of 'short-changing' buyers on the actual length of the inner rifled barrel (which they have done with the pellet version of their S&W 29-8.375" replica). Tbh though, the BB versions shoot pretty darn well both in terms of accuracy and power when using pellets anyhow but my pedantic OCD nature demanded that I 'needed' a rifled inner barrel, lol. One thing you didn't mention was the balance of the 6½" in the hand, it's remarkably good ! The whole gun will almost perfectly balance on the trigger finger when inserted through the trigger guard ! Makes it neither front heavy nor weighty in the back, it has a great feel (through the tactile grips), great balance (when held to shoot) and is gorgeous looking too ! What's not to love ? Now, if you're going to get a S&W 29 the little 3" is a whole handful of 'snubby' goodness and the 6½" is perfect for getting your 'Dirty Harry' on but the 8.375" version is a bloody big handful of revolver (much like the 8" DW 1st gen' replicas are). So when are you doing the Chiappa Rhino 50DS/60DS review ? Looking forward to that one, lol 🤣
Have you seen the new Umarex Competitor 6?, So tempting, Looks really nice but i dont know if they are releasing a rifled barreled pellet version, I really hope so.
I think revolvers have to be in the pellet version. Since there is no problem with blow back action or magazine realism that one can have with pellet version of semiautomatic guns (that usually are more realistic in the BB version) revolvers can still be very realistic using pellets, plus they have a rifled barrell that adds more realism to the thing, and also great accuracy for the action.
Good detail on that airgun! I've got a real one with a 5 inch barrel and love it! Great for hunting and Bear protection. Way too heavy and powerful to carry for self defense everyday against the two legged varieties of predators though. Those .44 Magnums can buck a little bit but they sure put the Whamm Bamm Turn It Into Jamm on whatever you're shootin' at. Lol
I had no plans of buying this gun, but pellpax are doing a half price deal at the moment so I managed to pick this 6.5" up for £122 including delivery, admittedly it's the BB version I've bought but to be honest, it'll probably just be a part of my collection with very little use 👍 ps..... they had the 6.5" pellet at £112.50 but I missed that deal 😢
Hey, mind if I ask you a question? That's the same gun I'm looking at, but I want to fire feathered darts out of it. Do the cartridges differ in any way to the pellet versions? I mean with regards to loading a dart. I presume the BB version shells load from the back and not the front, yeah? I'm currently using a 30 year old G10 repeater to fire darts at my dart board. It's slow going, loading one at a time. The ability to load and then shoot 6 is quite appealing! Cheers.
Is there any difference on bullets bb version and pellet version. Can we use pellets on bb version. I couldn't find pellet version in my dealer. They have only bb version
Very good review, I bought the burnished version, really impressed with the it, the only down side is the plastic grips, do you know where you can buy better ones thanks again
Personally, I prefer the look of this over the San Wesson 6”. I think the quality of both is very close but perhaps the Dan Wesson is just slightly better.
Do not buy this gun under any circumstances, my Handle snapped just tightening the co2 in, and ok I may have been slightly heavy handed but you need to be due to the gun also wasting your co2 if you don’t tighten it up quite a bit, please just don’t buy it is so disappointing & a waste of money
I would say the build quality on my 4” 715 Is ever so slightly better. Just put together more tightly if that makes sense? Both are great but there’s a tiny bit of give where the barrel meets the frame on the 629. I wish I could compare the 4” 715 to the 5.5” 629 or the 6” 715 to my 6.5” 629 to give you a more detailed comparison, so apologies, but I don’t own them all…yet. 😂
