Your wording of "the screw with the spring inside" saved me a trip to the gunsmith. My spring popped out while reassembling the yoke/cylinder assembly and I didn't know where it had come from. THANK YOU for the excellent video !!!
Very good detailed demonstration. I promise you make it look much easier than it is for me to do it. I actually got about 20% finished then had to call in the professional to finish the reassembly. Looks like more practice is necessary. To anyone out there thinking that they can do this on the first try I wish you all the best luck in the world.
I wish I had known about using a phillip screw driver to put in the rebound spring like you did. For years getting that spring back in has been hell for me. Thank you for showing me an easy way to do it with a common every day tool!
Thanks for this video. Mike Jack can you post a video of how to install the hand tension spring? Explain how it is positioned in the trigger and how to position the hand to get the spring installed correctly. A great number of people would greatly appreciate it!!!!
Thanks very much for your excellent video!! Your meticulous instruction and occasional tips eliminated my fear of disassembling and reassembling my Smith & Wesson 626 .357 Magnum and Smith & Wesson 629 .44 Magnum Revolvers. They do need a thorough cleaning every 500-1,000 rounds. Thanks again!!
Very, very well done and informative video. Thank you for sharing your experience. I will watch these two (disassemble / reassemble) videos as a new 686 owner. Do you use a ultrasonic cleaner?
+Andy Ostertag Thanks, I'm glad you like my video, congratulations with your new 686, it is the best revolver.I clean the old way, it's my hobby to clean guns and I use hours to clean 1gun.
+Mike Jack Love the Cylinder breakdown as well. Do you know where I can find a break down picture like you use in the opening of your Videos? And do you use an ultrasonic cleaner?
+Andy Ostertag Hi you can google smith and wesson revolver diagram, I clean my guns with Brass brush, solvent and cleaning patches. tomorrow I will upload a new interesting revolver video, have a nice weekend.
@@MikeJack Thank you.. I would of bet that pin didn`t go there. There is no way that pin is way to short to hit before the rebound slide does, But I put it back in there.. Thank you sir for your feedback/comment !!
My new SW 686 plus came with the rebound pin/spring, but my new 586 only came with rebound spring. No pin. I am talking about the spring @7:00. For some reasons the trigger return on my 686 is smoother than my 586. Is it because missing the pin?
Hi if the trigger return is smoother the rebound spring is lighter, the overtravel stop pin in the spring do nothing and i dont think S&W more use the pin.
Outstanding video. You make it look so easy! I have one question: I'm not an avid revolver guy, but you hear people talking a lot about correct timing when it comes to revolvers. Is that something to be concerned with during disassembly/reassembly or is it more related to parts tolerances and wear?
There is no reason to be concerned about correct timing when you reassembly your revolver, revolver mechanics are simple, if the parts is good and you do like I do in this video your revolver will shoot again.
that was an awesome video my Smith and Wesson model 629 classic talo edition jammed really bad yesterday at the range with two live rounds in the cylinder. it was jammed so bad i couldn't open the cylinder. I called Smith and Wesson customer service and they told me that I can't send it to them with the live rounds in the cylinder. After watching your disassembly and reassembly video I was able not only to repair my gun but also determine that it was the ammo that jammed the gun thank you so very much
+Mike Jack Very helpful, I just got a brand new 627-5 S&W I was bummed when I took it to the range and had multiple ammo failures. Apparently S&W is putting shorter firing pins in their guns now but you can order longer ones from an independent company (Cylinder & Slide Inc) and replace them. I was thinking of disabling the internal lock too but I might just wait on that it was a real pain in the butt trying to put that side plate back on for the first time!
