From some parts that I had out in the garage (and some purchased nuts and bolts) I was able to construct a Smitty Sled for my 2 man ice fishing shanty (an old Clam Guide) that is integral to the sled but is completely detachable once your destination is reached after what is now hopefully an easy pull across the ice and snow!

Nice build and idea. You gave me a lot to think about for my own build. So many great ideas out there so thanks for sharing yours. 👍🏼

Have you ever thought of using the existing ski boot mount? So you that you can click on the sled leg to it. Sure it'll end up being only 2 legs than but you can simply come up with some sort fo quick attach leg to the bottom of the sled too, like a table leg... so that it'll rest on another part of the ski to distribute the weight better without having to permanenetly attach those legs to the skis. ?? I myself is trying to think of something really simply, LIGHT weight.

@AnglingAnarchy Год назад
xx mike I think the problem with using the existing ski boot mount would be that it's in the center of the ski, unless of course you moved it. The 2 legs attached to the skis was the best solution I could come up with that would let me completely detach it from the sled, but I'm sure there are other solutions that would work!

Since ski blade are expensive. I just went and use a snowboard and center in my sled and mount in the middle with a 3/8 nuts washer n screw n both sides and that's it.

Nice job, how did it hold up last year? Maybe you could build a 2nd set of legs with castor wheels on the bottom instead of skis to get the sled from the parking lot to the ice without tearing up the sled or the skis? Or maybe clamp wheels to the bottoms of the skis?
@AnglingAnarchy

@timlisi871 It held up very well last year! I guess I never considered an extra set with wheels because pretty much all of the places I go, I can get the sled directly onto snow or at least grass right away.

You build things like this on the weekends. I built an egg sandwich. The gap in DIY talent is irritating. That being said, since you’re so much better, you should finish my boat rebuild. By March please, if you don’t mind. Thanks in advance.

Sean Ketcham The problem is that I have these ideas for non important projects that usually win out over things I should actually be doing around the house lol

@@AnglingAnarchy same here. Hence me making an egg sandwich instead of getting my boat ready for March Spring Lake muskies.

Would a middle ski help load weight distribution? Just a thought I had. Don't know what you pull the boat with but if it's a pickup truck with a topper/cap I'd like to see you do a DIY camper build in the truck bed.
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 2 года назад
The Lonesome Fisherman I used to do a little truck camping with my old Silverado that had a 6.5' bed. My new truck is a crew cab with a 5.5' bed so it would be a little cramped lol. I like the idea though! 😁

@@AnglingAnarchy Yeah, that would be a short bed for sleeping. I would like to do it too but I don't have the power tools or the skills.

This build seems more appropriate for a jet sled only build. Setup and takedown seems like it would be a pain with a fully loaded 2 man shanty with gear.
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 2 года назад
X V If the shanty is really loaded up, it may require the removal of a few of the heavier objects. I recently used the setup and the only thing I took out of the shanty was my electric auger. All depends on what you feel comfortable lifting.

@Angling Anarchy I've yet to learn how to pack lightly, so it would definitely be a problem for me, lol.

Like the design, however smitty sleds work far better if you use Downhill skis not cross country, Down hill skis distribute the weight better and ride on top of the snow far better the cross country. Your smitty sled will preform far better with an old pair of downhill skis.
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 2 года назад
john rapchuck Yup, I figured as much. I was just using what I already had sitting around the house. I think I may have mentioned somewhere in the body of the video that downhill skis would work better. Thanks for watching!
