Just happen to come across this video because we're getting ready for some trips this spring, familiarizing myself with the SB RTT - turns out you're the guy I purchased this exact tent from! Pretty cool, I didn't realize you had a channel. Either way, excited to finally get to use it. We're upgrading to a telescopic ladder right off the bat because of all the terrible reviews these sliding ladders get haha. Anywho, great video. Subscribed, keep up the content!!

I’ve got the newer Gen 2 model and really like it. That said, I also don’t like that it takes 15 minutes to set up…and probably Moore when you add in having to level the vehicle and (for me), dragging the extra memory phone into the tent. But for the savings you get with this Smittybilt vs. the hydraulic pop ups, I’m totally fine taking an extra 14 minutes to put everything in order. Now, as I get older…I’m guessing my wallet will loosen as I consider the “pop up” options…or even the teardrop option!

100% agree. The savings make it worth it, and the Gen 2 is great (though I feel like the ladder is the only real difference outside of color). If the iKamper develops a fully enclosed annex I very well may jump ship to that.

Hi thanks for the awesome review. You think this size is too big to go on top of my Xterra? We have 2 toddlers so kinda need the XL. Subscribed.

You certainly can, just be sure you have solid enough rails or roof rack to attach to. I doubt your factory rails are built to handle the dynamic weight of the tent. The static weight of roughly 160lbs - probably. But the dynamic weight is much more than that, and that must be taken into consideration.

Great video . Do you close the tent with the extra mattress also or do you put away first. Thanks

Great question! We pack it up with the added mattress topper, sleeping bags (laid out), and an extra blanket in the cold weather months. At one point we even had two mattress toppers (a total of 7.5” of mattress) and it would still close…with a little body weight help! :)
