This right here is a masterpiece of a song. The messaging is impeccable. The song is about a pokémon trainer who's had enough of life and decides to smoke weed for the first time. For a while, life is like the song's melody. It's catchy, it feels good to listen to, and it makes you feel better about your life in general. As the song goes on though, the lyrics get more passionate, more intense. At the end where the song emphasizes "every-day!", the character finally realizes something's wrong. His whole purpose in life has gone, and now he can only think about the next dose of dope. While the instruments in the song are symbolic of the trainer's constant high, the lyrics were right there the entire time as a constant reminder of actuality. All of a sudden he sees himself in his mother's basement with empty plastic bags and a bong he hasn't cleaned up in weeks. He realizes he hasn't bathed in a while either, and the unemployment checks aren't coming in anymore. His fantasy world crumbles. The trainer realizes he's been trying to catch all the weed, as if throwing a pokéball at that MJ would give him control over his life. But actually, it was more like he'd been inside the pokéball of addiction all those years. Instead of the "smoke weed everyday" at the beginning of the song, it turns to just "everyday". And that's when he decides to turn his life around. Beautiful lyrics.
