There is a feature in compass which will release the park brake if the RPM goes above 1200(if seat belt is plugged in)...He tried to move the vehicle without plugging in seat belt by giving full strain to clutch...There after thinking 1st position is for reverse he pushed the gear to 3rd and started moving the suv in 3rd...All what had happened is clutch burned out.....Someone had even sprayed some water also inside....This is what all happened....

Rizad Xtrendz exact reason Mr. May be most people don't deserve high technology or real SUVs And car in India. They are very much satisfied with Matchbox cars made by Suzuki and Koreans. Seeing beauty of inside they buy it. And forgets about real factors such as pollution rate, toxic materials used inside, efficiency of system used in car (not the milage),safety. Simply since most of us has not experienced the real cars to be driven and stick with cheaters. MS is not at all value for money, they don't give safety, comfort, technology and say headlight, door, festive interior, what .... A caravan.
PLEASE DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND JEEP COMPASS!!!the smoke arose because of burning of clutch insulation, owing to the irresppinsible driver who drove the compass in heavy kochi traffic for half an hour in clutch foot. Being a new vehicle the components tend to heat rapidly in these kind of situations, seeing the minor smoke locals poured a bucket of water into the engine bay, so what you are seeing is steam coming out
People overreacting over nothing. I've driven my Safari Storme a couple of times in places where the water touches the engine. There will always be STEAM coming, NOT smoke.

Thats not smoke its steam ! The owner was driving car with half clutch applied whole time thats why engine got overheated. And someone on the road sprinkled water on engine u r watching steam of that water no problem in the vehicle
Its a negative marketing. Its very clearly visible that its water fumes. Its but obvious that if you pour water on hot engine, this is bound to happen. In fact who is that fool who poured water on hot engine?
For Everyone here, it isnt a fault by Jeep india, im from kerala and i checked on this issue and found out that the owner was driving his vehicle on a hill station and due to poor driving skills he burned off his clutch, So dont criticize the company for his mistake, There will be many rumours to put down its reputation, demand etc, by other rivals. So what i have to say is that experience yourself and find out what the SUV is all about. All the best for Jeep India. ☇
Sam Peter Actually what happened is some boy poured water to engine while bonnet was open. Jeep is best value for money Fiat subsidery since 2013 compass, renegade are Fiat jeep. It's best in segment for safety,travel comfort,driving pleasure,dynamics, and technology. You get revolutionary highly eco friendly engine, adaptive shocks, what else do you need.... Pls to any Fiat product , don't add aftermarket stuffs and do service only at dealership. Local service will surely spoil the car. Do even wheel alignment at authorised dealer only the vehicle will last best. And Don't add unauthorised edits for jeep. And not at all for Fiat. Fiat products are to be experienced. It's a class high engineering. It's ride, stability, handling, control, comfort, drivability .... It's all there for any FCA.
This is not entirely true.. there was an interview with the owner.. he confessed on getting confused with the gears and so the clutch was ridden for a long time.. imagine starting a car from stationary in third gear... yupp.. that's what he did.. and then high speeds in the same low gear.. the clutch was heated.. and then some Idiot poured water onto the hot engine.. AND STEAM CAME FROM THE HOT WATER... NOT SMOKE..

I have seen such incidents when people try to step on it with the handbrakes on... or try to move the vehicle in a higher gear from stand still... probably something similar might have happened there
actually its not true. due to slow moving heavy traffic he was in half clutch for a long time. someone said something wrong with d car. den some youth said maybe its burning. and they poured water in d engine compartment. Think of what will happen if we put water on a hot engine. dats what happened.
Kudos to all illeterate people who jump in to judging a company without knowing the exact reasons of problem !! Its like a mob beating an innocent person for no reason in remote undeveloped tribal areas !!!
