TorqueKingTV presents: Teardown on a smoked NV4500! Join us on our adventure to do a 100% disassembly in about 2 hours. This transmission has never been rebuilt, and probably hasn't seen too many oil changes either.
In this video we battle some things that are not typical of an NV4500 rebuild, and use both conventional and unconventional methods to get the job done, all while battling the complexities of trying to get a good video in 1 shot.
Many of these parts our still usable. At the end we show our initial findings of what is serviceable and what is not.

Video helped as I got confused on reassembly. My model is the same as this one And on reassembly reverse is different than the later model

How do you know if someone needs to service their top cover?

The rails can get dirty, or a poppet may get worn and sticky. Typically a poppet spring or plunger is the only thing serviceable, the rest is cleaning all the gunk out.

What size is that 5th gear nut socket ? My GM has the same set up with the vibration dampener so the regular 5th gear wrenches wont work

I forget the tool set number, but these are original Miller service tools.

I need that 5th gear nut SOCKET. I seen a couple online, but dang they are not cheap. I didn't even know it was bad until I was changing throw out bearing.

We have them. as a cheaper alternative, you could go with QT2002 wrench and QU10173 spacer instead of the dampener. You may even be able to press your dampener off... The rubber insulation on the dampener can deteriorate over time, so be sure to check that.

@@TorqueKingTV would it be worth finding a worn out tranny and just gutting it and putting 100 percent everything inside new? .. you mentioned filter, is it even possible to add a filter? Liked watching your video

@@letsgetit3310 It would be expensive, but at least you will know whats in it. You could probably get a couple smoked ones for relatively cheap and pick the best parts, then supplement anything else with new parts. Here is a filter kit example, but are available from us in a variety of configurations. @@TorqueKingTV wait whaaaa that's awesome. Do you have vids up on this and 5th gear socket? ... that makes me want to add a pump to my transmission. One of those side plates needs a sweet drain plug. I pulled bottom bolt and went to bed it was so slow.
