After surpassing 1 million acres burned on Thursday, the Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas Panhandle is now the largest wildfire in Lone Star State history. How is it double the size of Delaware? In this video they report that the fire has grown to 1,050,000 acres which converted to square miles is 1,640 sq. mi. According to the U.S. Census Bureau the area of Delaware, including both land and water, is 2,489 sq. mi. ; just land is 1,949 sq. mi. For the numbers in this report this fire isn't twice the size of Delaware yet let alone the size of Delaware. Considering it's still not contained it's possible it can still grow to the size of Delaware but it has quite a ways to go before it's twice the size which would be, just land, 3,898 sq. mi. converted to acres is 2,494,720. To be the size of Delaware it would need to grow to 1,247,360 acres.

Surprised Trump hasn't told Texas that all they needed to do is rake the forest to prevent wildfires. Texas, for the love of God PLEASE educate your constitutants how wildfires start and spread!!! Also fire prevention education would be a great benefit to your state along with keeping fire extinguishers in a car. A spark from a car can set off a fire as can dropping a cigarette thinking it's out when it's not. PLEASE take your pets with you when you leave!!
