Too bad your “biking” shirt isn’t trail appropriate. It’s already taken you all the way from Springer through the Smoky Mountains. I think you’ll be okay😉I love your enthusiasm for the trail. Even bad days don’t keep you down for long. Happy trails.
Hey Stick, it was actually comical that someone would tell you your shirt was the reason you couldn't get to Maine. I guess they never heard of Gramma Gatewood! She carried a pillowcase and wore Keds. You go Stick, your smiles will get you to Katadin. Love you.❤
I saw heard that too. He has gone 200+ miles in that red shirt. It is a thin nylon wicking shirt. He will be fine. Plus if he wants to change shirts, there are plenty of stores the next 1900 miles
I think this is your best video so far... 34 minutes was up before I knew it. I'm used to ads and why not monetize it when so many others do it. I enjoyed the "dialogue" with the dayhiker (There's a trail going to Maine?..haha). Pffft to the person regarding your shirt... I got a sun shirt from Bass Pro that I plan on hiking in... does that mean I'm wearing a fishing shirt? Smh Kudos to the person who sent you the resupply box and the trail angel! You, both, are awesome! Happy to hear the Smokies NP is sending you your stamp and you made it thru! And as always, Happy Trails to you! 🥾🗻🌲🐻🦌🦊🫎💚🥾
Hey Stick, this is Fidget! Nebo the hiker dog and I were the ones you met right before crossing I-40. I wish I had known you like fig bars because I had a pack of strawberry Newtons in the van! Snapple was by far the most popular item I gave away that whole day. After we drove away Nebo and I went to Newfound Gap and hung out until right before dark. There was still snow and ice in the area. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet your friend Soap and his buddies while at Newfound Gap. A barefoot hiker with no trail name told me they stayed at the Mt. Collins shelter for the night. I cannot imagine hiking barefoot in the mud and ice, but he told me it did not bother him at all and that he rarely wears shoes, even off the trail! Amazing. Nebo and I just got back to Alabama last night. We stayed with my daughter (Scout) a few extra days because the weather in the area was just too perfect to leave. The freedom to do this is the icing on the cake of retirement! I'll be going back up the mountains in a couple of weeks. It will be my first 2024 trip to hit the Spring blooms and make a few more trail magic/ham radio/time with the Lord stops at trailheads. I'll start in the vicinity of the Shenandoah NP, then trickle south towards home via the Blue Ridge Parkway, then through North Georgia. Hopefully I'll catch the tail end of the bubble. Send me a PM and perhaps we can meet again if you are not too far north when I get up there. Good luck on your journey! Thanks for taking the time to create your wonderful videos.
Thank you Fidget!! I met Nick, the barefoot hiker, in the Franklin area. If you have Instagram or Facebook we can message on there! You can find me there and please shoot me a message. Thank you for the magic again, that was fantastic!!! Have a great time in the Shdnandoahs. I expect to hit the Virginia border within the week.
Stick, Please don't worry about the ads. It's worth it to follow your journey. We are praying for you. Thank you for sharing your journey with us all.🙏🌞
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with as much exuberance as you 😀 You can tell you are having a truly good time. I hope it stays that way for you. Enjoying your videos a lot!
Cheers to the end of the Smokies and the completion of Section 1. Bravo to the day’s success. I have been watching AT hikers on RU-vid for a year. I followed many to Katahdin in 2023. I have been following one doing the PCT. Kudos to all for their extraordinary accomplishment and strength of character. Many had different ideas of packs and equipment. In short, the greatest problem was carry weight. In jest, it is best to pack the light weight of one’s thoughts and avoid the burden of carrying the heavy weight of one’s emotions. Kudos to you for providing many smiles per mile. Thanks for showing off the supply box. Most interesting. Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
Keep your page monetized. The ads are very short and you deserve the money to help you out. Excited for you that you have left the Smokies now and are on your way to new adventures. Thanks for another nice video. Carpe Diem.
Hey! I'm super into the National park passport stamps too! There's a few great spots for a stamp right along the trail in Virginia - The Humpback Rocks Visitor Center (Blue Ridge Parkway), The Harry F Byrd Visitor Center (Shenandoah) and both the AT Conservancy and the Harper's Ferry Visitor Center in Harpers Ferry all have multiple stamps!
Stick: I hope you meet many more people that tell you "you won't make it to Maine". Because those kind of comments will give you so much energy and determination that when you do make it to Katahdin you will turn around go to the trail SOBO. I think people like that jerk aren't having as much fun as you are so they have to hate others. Keep having a blast!
Be careful…there is often snow/ice in Roan Highlands in late March into April. Until you get out of 6000’ ft mtns, anything is possible! Great job with the Smokies!🎉
Big temp change and views are amazing. You did it, check the Smokies off your list yeahh, Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏. You had rough weather, but like you said, you were prepared, did it your way and were safe. As far as the ads, so what, so many have them, why not you. I appreciate all the videos, and if you can make some nickles while hiking, do it. It might be a little bit that keeps you on trail. Do it !!!
That was a beautiful video! Even if you could upload videos in the woods, it's better for your personal safety to have a delay anyway. We do have ads on RU-vid, but they are really no problem. I don't mind them at all. I think monetizing is a great idea. Congratulations on finishing the Smokies!
Are you an Eagle Scout? Is that the origin of the channel name? I’m amazed at the job you’re doing of vlogging with only 64 GB of storage. I’m in the same boat and I’m only doing day hikes and weekends. It can be challenging. I’d say the people who are criticizing your hiking attire idea’s of hiking is walking from their Tesla across a Starbucks parking lot to get a latte.
Hiking clothing and cycling clothing have many of the same principles, hilarious that someone would tell you, you were wearing something wrong. I hate you didn't go to Cammerer.... the views are AMAZING! The Smokies are a beautiful place!!
Long backpacks? Those are pistol brace ghost guns. Next year all packs, clothing, and baggage will be clear plastic. That's why people skip the hostels, ranger stations, and pack layouts. You can always tell because the heavily armed walk slowly up the hills.
Wow, just, wow. Can't believe that guy criticized your shirt😂. How petty. And who cares? If it gets the job done, great! Im way more impressed with ppl who make it with less than premium gear. Ive seen a few who really got creative bc they had very little money. They made it work! Grandma gatewood is a prime example.
Dont listen to negativity, especially over a shirt. No lie, i had just turned this video on, and said to my wife “This guy is going to make it” And you will. Happy hiking🥾
Stick, they just aren’t as cool as you! Listen, I hike and bike.. I see no problem with the crossover of clothes. Actually the riding shirt is probably a little better…they are wicking and “cooler”. Tell them to STEP ON. You’ve got it going on! Really enjoying your zest for life and your positive attitude. Trust me my friend, you do have what it takes to go all the way. Katahdin or bust!
So at this point, your average was around 11 miles per day…and im sure as the days pass, you will go faster and walk longer. Do you still think you will be on oar to get to Maine by June, like you want, or are you open to leaving trail for your job, without completing it all, or if you aren’t finished by June, would you consider staying on trail longer in order to complete the whole trail?
I think a new iPhone would be good. You can get 512 of storage and 4K video. You’re uploading in 720p right now. The shirt is probably not moisture wicking, that’s what the guy was getting at. Why aren’t you tenting more? You wouldn’t have to worry about shelters being full and could maybe get more miles
