In your gimbal video, in the video itself, you referred to the video being about a gimbal. A gimbal video, about a gimbal! Until the 655th time it was referred to as a gimbal, in the video, I almost forgot that I was watching a video about a gimbal. LOL
Yeah, that's all that gimbal was worth: Bait for another, better, more capable gimbal. (Or, would that be a "Phishing scam" by BestBuy to get me to buy a BETTER, albeit more expensive rig?!!) Couldn't get it to balance my One+ 8T, without a lot of hassle, so I took it back and traded up for a DJI OM4. MUCH BETTER rig! Sure, I forked out another $100, but it was worth it! (The Smooth X was only $49.99 at my local BestBuy here in San Francisco.) If you're a pro and want to use your phone for 4K B-roll, or maybe even the "main attraction", then go for another rig. Sorry, but I had higher expectations, which were all dashed by the Smooth X.
I really liked your review. The quality of the results was much better than most of the mobile phone based videos I have ever seen. The quality of the video was so good, it made me challenge any consideration of using a DSLR or a dedicated Digital Mirrorless Camera, to achieve similar results. Your communication was excellent and your enthusiasm infectious. Well done. What mobile phone were you using with this gimbal, in this video?, and what do you use for video editing before publishing to RU-vid?. I found the quality of your videos really nice, and representing one of the directions I may wish to take as a videographer, clear, bright, clean, vivid. Do you colour grade before publishing to RU-vid? I know lots of questions. !!
Haha, that was a lot of questions, but it caught my eye for sure! WOW! Thank you for those kind words. Really appreciate that. That gimbal b-roll footage was iPhone 11. I use Adobe Premiere. I do a combination of color grading and using a LUT. My goal is to start doing more tutorials so if there is something you are stuck with, and it's not covered very well on RU-vid, feel free to suggest a topic! Thanks for the support!
Haha Omar, I won't be using that mode much LOL. Zhiyun's culture is to keep innovation at the top. They like to push the market forward. There is pros and cons to that too, but I like to see technologies move forward!
Se Park I couldn’t agree with you more hopefully 1 day we can all do a big meet up and shoot together who knows🤷🏻♂️🙏 haha keep up the great work tho 💪
Once it is activated you can use it without the app as a standard phone gimbal stabilizer using the phone’s camera app or other third party camera apps. You just won’t get the fancy features like motion tracking and motion time lapse when you exit the Zhiyun app. Hope that info helps! 👍
Hi Bill, it’s the nature of these small gimbals. They will transfer a lot of your body shake. So depending on the ninja feet level, you will see a lot of shakiness. Also it will depend heavily on the phone model. Since this gimbal is missing the tilt motor, it will rely on the phone’s IBIS.
Bill Feinberg probably not since there were so many reviews out already. I also didn’t see too much difference from RX100 VA other than the microphone that I wasn’t convinced. 😁
There is on problem with this gimbal...No on talk about silence of motors...My iphone pick up this noise from Smooth X...Ehhh what a shame...Money waist
Great review. I already own this thing and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to activate the different follow modes. The manual of this gimbal is sadly really sparse.
Get a gimbal if you're a professional videographer. For casual usage, I'd say you're better off buying phone with stabilization built it. This this is just a pain in the butt to carry on.
I had a Zhiyun Q2 gimbal earlier this year but it would not hold my phone very well, it would shake if i tilted it. Maybe my phone was too heavy? Anyways, i liked the size of the Q2 and that I didn't need to have the ZY app open all the time to use the gimbal. I could use it to take videos via the regular Samsung camera app. I would like to get another gimbal that has a reach like this one, but I love the feature of not having to only be on the specific gimbal app. Does the CAMI app have to stay open in order for the gimbal to have the stabilizing benefits?? I have a Samsung S8 for reference.
Let’s be honest. It’s a glorified selfie stick. That’s all it is. I picked one up to test out as well. And it’s shit next to an older Smooth Q which you can get for the same price or a bit less used. It has no USB to power your phone while filming. It shakes while walking. The ZY cami app has some good features to get more use out of this, but by default it makes you look weird as hell, so you have to go in and turn of the “beautify” features that are making your eyeballs big, your teeth denture white and your neck and chin super small. It’s compact and folds up which is nice, but I still would rather have my Q in my bag vs this. Would be a nice toy for taking with you on vacation if you know you’re not going to get the absolute best. But DO NOT EXPECT 3 AXIS STABILITY. Period. This doesn’t have it. Seen a lot of videos reviewing this, making it look better than it is, as people are hyping it up to keep getting free shit to review. If you went a Gimbal. Trust me, and stick with a 3 Axis unit. The Q is what I still use and it’s easy to travel with as well as it comes with it’s micro guitar carrying case. The Smooth X. I would give it a 4/10 as a gimbal. And a 9/10 as a Selfie Stick - which is what this is. The hyper lapse I don’t use. The Timelapse feature is neat. But again, if you’re low on phone battery forget it. No way to tap into external power without also bringing along a power bank. So shit piles up. Anyway make sure you understand all that before you buy one and know that it’s really made to be a selfie stick. If that’s what you want it’s great. But as a gimbal no.
great, i just bought it as a selfie stick. Not tried it yet, hopefully an upgrade on my cheapo selfie stick but bit concerned about the crappy app reports.
Thanks for the video! I just got this for a new freelance gig I'm doing where I need to use selfie mode walking around for an hour or so doing livestreams. The gimbal selfie stick and overall weight were the final deciding factors on choosing this over the DJI Osmo3 which my boyfriend got at the same time as I got mine. We're both learning how to use our gimbals now and did some comparatives as well. The grip on the DJI is more comfortable, but with the tripod attachment of the combo it helps give some length to the SmoothX, so that is helpful. The ZY Cami app, as others have mentioned, isn't great. It doesn't seem to always connect and the tutorials are lacking which is why I'm here on your video to see how to operate the thing after the initial set-up. For a beginner gimbal user I wasn't familiar with the lock, pan, and pan & follow modes and what those meant. Also, I couldn't seem to locate exactly what the "M" button does and couldn't remember from the PDF user manual printed in a small print that can't be zoomed in to read well. So thank you very much for the more throrough instructions and examples for each. I'm going to check out what other helpful info you have in other videos now. :)
I was really hoping for a video with all the shots you did with the gimbal and you didn’t disappoint, thx. One question though, the footage seemed a little choppy. Was that because of the gimbal app or the frames per second you set the shots at?
jepp it works. Just bought this gimbal today and now I'm testing it. It works just fine. It could probably also be used while shooting with motion detector.
Just a question cause I ordered a smooth x and I live in England and ordered it on April 30 do you know how long it would take fore delivery cause I have been waiting for a couple weeks fnow
Hi! Thanks for watching my review video. Just to clarify I don’t work for the store. I’m a content creator at most. Did you order from the official Zhiyun store?
Got mine today & definitely went back to this vid a few times for reference - this was super-useful. Thank you: subbed! PS: I tested mine out today & noticed that the motors struggle a bit in FPV mode when pole is fully extended. Using a phone & case weighing 208g total. Did you experience that with your setup?
That’s awesome Jonathan! Yes FPV mode is ideal when the gimbal is completely closed. Once the stick is out and especially tilted, it is much more sensitive to the phone’s weight. Balancing it perfectly does help but physically expected.
Thanks Walter! Haha, I'm guessing someone spent half the video on talking about another product... LOL. Review videos are not easy to make. I spent 3 days outlining and researching for this video. Still not perfect but I'll keep getting better. Thanks for watching!
Are any of these devices bad? These reviews from many pages lie. You can clearly see how shaky it was. He kept the clips short and cut away from it quickly. But then to say how stable it is. Smh.
Oh you have a cute charming smile i like you first time i watch your video i was amazed thank you for this your so awesome Today this gumbal was on sale on combo package how i wish to avail it before it ends
Are you able to switch the cameras in the app with the iphone so you can use the ultra wide camera? Or would you just have to use the Iphone camera app? Thanks.
Hello sir, I want to know one thing. Will there ve any problem if I mount my xiaomi phone on this gimbal? I mean will it give pressure on my power button or volume button of my phone?
Can i ask a question? What should we do if th zhiyun smooth x controller is not facing in front and the light was not green but blue eventhough we tried to control it using zy cami ?
Could you please check if GoPro type camera would fit directly in to gimbal ? I think it should work in the selfie mode. That would be interesting to see because that may be very good solution because you don't need this counterweight frame for GoPro nice reviews by the way
