I had always thought of Kishori Tai's Yaman as untouchable and in a realm that could never be equaled. But Malini tai here is in the same league as Kishori. Malini tai's Yaman is so distinctive, for instance, the direct way she treats Tivra Ma in the alap, almost druphad like, and then the sudden taans in the vilambit phase that are quite unexpected, yet never out of place.

This harmonium of Govindrao Patwardhan was not being played by somebody, it was Malini Tai singing through fingers of Govindrao ! He poured all his best in this Yaman which itself is the most sweet raag. And my standing ovation to you too Rajuji! Thanx a lot!!
Enthralling performance by Maliniji some have spoken about the accompaniment of Govindrao Patwardhan on harmonium he is obviously briiliant..but what about the tabla accompaniment of Mukund Kane...he is the best tabla accompaniment I have heard...both accompaniments compliment each other....the performance of all 3 artists is stupendous....
OMG..just speechless..the ultimate yaman i have ever heard, Malini tai is my most fav female artist..she is a maestro, a university of music herself.. Thanks for sharing this , a gem in my collection of yaman...She's never an underrated artist else i must confess she is the finest artist among all irrespective of gender..
She is hardly under-rated. She is recognized as one of the top three female classical vocalists of India from her generation - Kishori, Malini and Parween. The most thoughtful, deep and still extremely pleasant and creative genius. She has easily recorded more than many well known artists and performs regularly at the most prestgious festivals, in Pune, Jalandhar, Hyderabad, Konark, Kolkata, Delhi etc.
In fact she is revered & worshipped for her extremely intelligent , innovative & versatile skills as the classical vocalist. She was always looked at as an artist par excellence. She was perhaps a little low profile by temparament.
I suspect your observation is true. In modern parlance she appears to be in zone the eternity.and obviously we do go speechless at such beauty.😊👌💐her concerts must be even more magical.thank you take Asokan sir. yaman at its best...malini taais yaman is like a personality..lot of depth and gravity..what a thought process n thinking about the raga....different frills of yaman makes you to think how yaman would appear...look...portray .....i mean after listening to malini taai you live yaman...you imagine yaman...you think yaman... pranam...

I'm a layman as regards ragas. Nevertheless I am transported listening to ragas like this. What wonderful sounds.. just follow the raga and become transported to a higher plain. Thank you. 🙏
I didn't know what drupad was then Ravi Shankar, with his record on Indian music,4 discs had a sample. Pure magic.It truly is an elixir .So soothing a lofty and agreeable. Does it come from Haridas?I have an l.p.from the UNESCO collection of two famous brothers. The whole world needs this music I love the fine feeling of expression here.
There is too much praise here for technicality, especially in the alaaps of the vilambit section, or the meditative taans that are accompanying the bandish: The distinct Pa-Re-Ma (Teevra)-Ga is deployed with such silken beauty. What can one say? The purest distillation of Gwalior gharana in female form; Pranaam to the Maestro.
I listened till the end and found that the rendition by Tai is as usual splendid,the accompaniment is also very good but the whole performance is ruined as a 33 RPM lp is played at 45 RPM.So sad.
In a number of recordings of Smt. Malini Rajurkar the tessitura seems unnaturally high, as if manipulated. Listen to her old, brief recording of Raag Chakradhar.
Actually, the texture of her voice changed a lot over the years. If you listen to any recording of Tai from 1960-70s or early 1980s, you'll find a similar texture.
Firstly Music is no competition, comparisons are shallow. Secondly, kishori ji and Prabha ji have their own effect. Malini ji brought out the playfulness of yaman, almost like we are dancing . Kishori ji, has in her recordings like Eeri aali created a narrative that spells a love story. Talking of Prabha Atre ji, she really brought out bhakti ras, makes you want to fall in love with Krishna all over again. If you're into acrobatics and consider them good singing, then like I mentioned earlier, there is something very shallow in your perspective.
