I was very surprised that you didn't get ahold of an American Mars bar. Then I found out they were discontinued a long time ago. Then brought back. Then discontinued within a year. Then brought back. Then dropped. I feel old. It was in essence but not precisely what are sold as Snickers Almond bars. It was my favorite, back when I ate candy bars.
How funny they kept coming and then going! Did your original Mars bar look like our Mars bar? Hopefully you enjoy the Almond snickers even though it's not quite the same
@@ThisWithThem The bar itself more or less did, the four bars (Three Musketeers, Milky Way, Snickers and Mars) were all made the same size as the others at any particular period and looked identical until bitten. The wrapper was not the same logo as UK Mars Bar. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it had the color scheme that Snickers Almond now has. The main difference between the two is that Mars had whole almonds while Snickers Almond has fragments. I don't eat candy bars routinely, any particular year I am most likely only to have whatever is left undistributed after Halloween is through.
The filling on the American Milky Way may have more air whipped into it. There used to be something called a Mars Bar in the U.S.. It was like a Snickers with almonds instead of peanuts. It was discontinued in 2002, and in 2003 it was reintroduced with the name Snickers Almond. The Three Musketeers bar originally had three flavors in one package: chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. They eliminated all but the chocolate because of sugar shortages during World War II. There used to be a lot more brands of candy bar in the U.S. than there are now. One of my favorites was the Milkshake bar (like a Milky Way but with malt flavoring). It was discontinued decades ago. I also liked the O'Henry bar (like a Snickers with fudge inside).
How funny they brought it back as the Snickers Almond!! I wonder if they will bring back all 3 flavours for a special anniversary?! That would be cool! Oooo that Milkshake bar sounds amazing! I love that malt flavour. That O'Henry bar sounds delicious too! Shame they're not around anymore
Several years ago I learned that the standard pack of British Starburst candy still contained a lime flavor (I seem to remember the original Starburst pack in America had lime in the 80s?) and also contained a red currant flavor. Loving lime candy flavor and Starburst, I ordered British Starburst from Amazon. I was rather disappointed to discover that the British Starburst are more muted in flavor (and color) as well as having a bit of a grainy texture. I found the American Starburst to be far better.
Yes you're right. We have the lime and is yours now apple? Ahh that's a shame. They have really cracked down over here about not using as much sugar and trying to use mostly natural flavours & colours as possible so that probably changed the flavour and texture!?
@@ThisWithThem It was our lime Skittles that were replaced by green apple in 2013, but lime triumphantly returned (green apple removed) in 2021, dates per Google Search. Google also confirmed for me that lime was removed from our Starburst in the early 80s and replaced by cherry. I believe that lime remained available at least for periods of time in alternate flavor variety packs of both Starburst and Skittles. Our long-term standard Starburst flavor line-up is cherry, strawberry, orange and lemon.
Hey Kate and Alex always love your videos! I had a chocolate bar in England years ago that I don't remember the name of it was very light and seemed to be aerated with small holes through out. It was simple but yummy. Any thoughts of what it was? I also liked one I think was called Flake because it was flaky am I remembering that correctly? Now I need chocolate! 😋✌️💖
Hey!!! Yes I belive you'll be talking about our Aero bars! We now have lots of different flavours but you probably just had the milk one. Other than that you could have had a Cadbury Wispa bar! They're kind of the same but even smaller little aerated bubbles! So delicious
I think you should absolutely add UK candy that are the same name or same combination as an USA one. It would be a fun family activity comparing the bars! Edit adding about frozen candy bars, I freeze the small snack bars and have 1 while washing dishes at night...it takes longer to eat and satisfies my craving!
Mars bars are so good, that and caramilk are in my top 5 easily. For value though we have a bar here called the titan bar sold at dollarama and it's similar to a mars but with peanuts and you get essentially 4 bars for a little over a dollar....so...yeah.
They're just so delicious aren't they!! Oh wow that makes a difference! Here in our Uk supermarkets there are some own brand versions and I don't taste much of a difference so sometime gets them too!!
LOVE this idea!! Highly recommending you both do a video trying a variety of random and bizarre food combinations: a few popular in the US: 1) Nacho doritos, original cheetos, and harvest cheddar SunChips dipped in whipped cream cheese 2) Broiled/roasted bell peppers stuffed with peanut butter 3) Roasted turkey or grilled chicken dipped in cranberry honey mustard, or mango chutney, or applesauce 4) English muffin toasted with marshmallow fluff and two reeses peanut butter cups slightly melted
Loved the video as always guys, years ago our UK Milky way was also more choclatey and malty rather than white in the middle and I much preferred that. I don't like the updated version. You are prob far too young to remember that being much younger and less dusty than me 😂😂😂 xx
Thank you Helen!! Do you know what, I did only just say the other week about how white the inside was!! So maybe I have a vague memory from the old version with them being darker. Haha less dusty 😂 never heard that before, so funny xxx
The reason why they stopped making all three flavors of the 3 musketeers bar. Rationing of sugar began during the war in 1942 and it became too expensive to continue producing all three flavors. Since chocolate was the favorite by popular demand, Mars only continued to produce the chocolate flavor.
🇨🇦Love Snickers they are so good😋MillyWay i’ve never tried it before🇨🇦Mars this one my favourite one🏆 The other two never heard that before🇨🇦 when he was 🇨🇦coming to Canada 🇨🇦going to Vancouver 🇨🇦BC 🇨🇦Canada 🇨🇦beautiful🇨🇦
Ahhh good thinking!! I didn't think about Australia and I think also Canada having Mars bars! Maybe I could do something else for countries that get them!
I rarely eat a 3 Musketeers bar, but I am always surprised how much I like it. Hey Kate, when are you going to have a baby? When you do, give us a look. I'll be as proud as Uncle Alex.
I'm not a hater or anything I just get offended by comparing place to place I was subscribed for a really long time since when y'all tested American items the first time.
Sorry to see you go 👋🏻 but everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we never disrespect anyones food! If you watch the other snack showdown episodes some of the American bars win. You win some and lose some!
I live in Colorado but i am from Manitoba, Canada originally. I was visiting my family recently and brought back kit kats, smarties and aero bars. Was so happy to have a good kit kat again. Sooo different.
