5* hunt and vid, best I have seen yet on the interwebs. Can't wait to watch part 2...brought me back to a hunt I had 10 years back. Shot a chukar that died out on a rock knob. I was working my way over to retrieve the quarry and halfway thru the draw to the rock knob a gorgeous golden eagle swooped on in, grabbed that dead chukar, then flew on by me with that chukar in his talons. Best thing I ever saw. I was happy to pass on to that eagles good fortune.

Thank you for this great video Eric! Hell's Canyon has been our lifelong go to place for almost fifty years for all our outdoor adventures and hunting. Hubby is now 75 and just had hip replacement so we're watching youtube vids of that area and yours is the best so far. It's really nice to feel like you're there when you can't get there. And the opening footage of the snow dusted mountains is to die for. Gotta capture a shot of that for my wallpaper!

That long drop on the second day, I did that once and decided to pick it up on the way down in the evening, found where the bird hit in the snow, bounced and the coyote tracks. Hells canyon is fabulous country. In the 70s we would jump 200+ birds a day, no dogs.

Great video and commentary! I pays to have a good retrieving dog like Cee Cee. I’ve been chasing chukars for 32 years and I prefer to flush the birds from below or on contour, giving me shots at the oncoming birds rather than a chukar in a power dive. It’s not always possible but it gives you a slight edge when you connect. Chukars love rocks, rock slides and singles love brush. Good luck!

Eric Forrester Cyprus. It’s a mountenus Island in the Mediterranean see. The name for Chuckar in Greek is island partridge as it thrives in the dry rocky terrain of the Greek islands

Great video. chukar hunting is one of my favorite game birds to hunt. I will say, they are nothing more than "Goats with Feathers". They run up vertical rock faces (I've seen them do it) and fly down right in front of you to where you started. We begin the day calling them chukars but by then of the morning or afternoon hunt, we call them something very similar that begins with an "F". Much of our state of Idaho has some rather premiere chukar hunting as does Nevada, and I'm guessing Oregon. Not too many go after these birds because it's just like hunting big game. Very cool video Eric. By the way, that's a great name you have. Same as my grandson.

@@ericforrester1 One other thing, I switch to #5 1/2 shot late season because the shots can be long. Early season I use #71/2 because they hold better in denser cover.

I gotta chuckle, I've been hunting chukar for 15 years now (on the Snake River in fact) and went through the same thing you did...There's just really no way to explain chukar hunting to someone until they experience it first hand. I'm assuming you were on the Idaho side? The Oregon side of Hell's Canyon this year is very poor.

Yeah you’re right, even the video doesn’t do it justice! I was on the Oregon side of Brownlee mostly.

@@ericforrester1 I'm looking fwd to our season here in the Big Horn Basin. Fairly decent hatching conditions and a lot of feed and cover. Every season we seem to eek out quite a few birds and this upcoming one should be exceptional. I'll start some intensive scouting soon to see what's out there. If you can tolerate English Setters, hit me up later and I can show you some "Wyo-Birds"

Mate, I was really enjoying your video up until I saw those three ejected cartridge cases that you seemed to totally ignore whilst talking to us. Please tell me that you did pick them up, access to such beautiful country demands respect. Here in Fascist Australia there is absolutely no access to any public lands for bird hunting, I only hunt quail on private land that I have exclusive access to, we never leave a cartridge case and if we find one pick it up and bring it to the attention of the landowner. Most times they are heavy shot from the farmer chasing foxes, only landowners are allowed self loading or pump guns for vermin destruction, doubles only for hunting and half of Australia has banned legal quail hunting. Think yourself lucky, cheerio Bob.
@ericforrester1
@ericforrester1 4 года назад
Believe me I do feel lucky. I belong to several conservation organizations to help keep our access to public lands. I do pick up hulls but I know I don’t get them all. I also pick up any I see from others. I never used to pick them up so I sometimes forget, especially when I get excited. On this trip, I think I removed more than I left at least.
