This episode, I was challenged by my friend Maruthu (link below) to catch a Snakehead with just one Lure, and a lure that I've never fished before. Let's find out how it turns out!

How do you tell there's a snakehead in a new spot in pre winters in the Deccan.

While there’s no sure fire way to say that, one can look for the health of the water body, bait fish availability, healthy vegetation etc. Best way is to try diligently and let the fish reveal. Colder water slows down fish activity in general including snakeheads. Try spinnerbaits, soft plastic shads on super slow retrieve.

Do snakeheads shy away from heavy frogs , about 30gm I was using.

May not because of the size, perhaps they are not hitting frogs at that time. I’ve seen multiple times smallies hitting big lures.

Thank you, will include little bit more detail on another video. As you can see in this video and my other videos, the trick is to give the fish a couple of seconds to take the lure properly. You can do it either by lowering your rod tip or and counting 2-3 seconds. It will come by practice:)

Usually dawn and dusk are good time to target any fish, where their activity is usually high.

Sir I am using telescoping rode•• my reel will broken• the big snake fish attacked my lure power full•snake head weight 6to7kg fish• what I can do

Hi Sai, telescopic rods may not be strong enough to fish for big fishes. Try for a 6’6” or 7 ‘ two piece rod. You can use spinning or casting setup. Consider caperlan brand if your looking to start with inexpensive options.

I instantly subscribe to you channel as I am a snakehead angler.. Just wanna ask a few question!! Was thinking of buying a shimano curado dc but was confused coz in Ali express it's available at around 12k while in India it's sold around for more than 15 k or more...from where do you think I should buy??

Hi Elvis, thanks for the sub and the question. I strongly recommend against purchasing any high value tackle from Ali, especially these strange times. Even before COVID Indian customs started a crackdown on items from China and taxed around 50% of the item value NOT declared value. Second I doubt you will get it delivered anytime soon. If you can buy it in India pay a little more and purchase, there could be warranty or free service type of deals.15k is a great price I think.

Thanks for the valuable advice..i have purchase most of my bitcaster from Ali and the custom didn't charge a penny..so was thinking about purchasing from Ali. I guess paying few extras won't break the bank, !!!! But if it exceeded 18 k then no way I am gonna buy it..pliz mention from where did you buy the reel and how much did you pay for it!!!

I have purchased many reels from there but things aren’t the same anymore. It’s not worth the risk and wait time. I buy reels through my friends from abroad. You can try pelagic tribe in Bangalore and couple of stores in Chennai. You can google them.

6’6” to 7’ is my choice. It’s long enough for good distance casting. Use braid for your mainline.

It’s difficult to point out fishing spots specifically. I hear all the time that Hassan has some Great Lakes for snakeheads. Wish one day I’ll be able to fish there. Just look for vegetation and ambush points like inflows etc. guess that would be a good starting point.

The fish upto 3kgs (6lbs) can be acrobatic and the bigger ones usually nose dive to snags. They are fun to fish for sure;)

There is a huge variety of lures you can use for snakeheads. Best bet is to use frogs. For Vaaha you can use other type of lures like buzzbaits, walk the dog pencil lures etc. Please see my last video on fishing on Kerala for cheron and Vaaha.
