In Southeast Asia, we fish for Giant Snakeheads, or the local name be called Toman (pronouced as Toe-Maahn) Most of the techniques you described are practiced as hollow body frogs is still a popular choice. But we double it up with Assist cord instead of a thicker braid. After that, you can attached that to a flouro leader without worry of the snakehead biting through the kevlar assist cord. Another favourite tactic is to target their fry, baby snakeheads that bunch up into a ball. Throw a sinking pencil in there and they'll attack without hesitation. Buzzbaits are also quite effective. They live in thick cover, so it's not unheard of to use 100lb test braid and leader to haul the snakehead back to the bank. Cause once you're hooked on, you don't just reel back the fish, you bring it's entire nesting home along too.

It is my dream to fish for them Toman! yeah i can believe that you will need better line for those guys! their fries are HUGE which is insane. our baby fries for northern snakeheads are so small and when they leave the parents, they are normally 2.5 to 3 inches. I would be micro fishing to catch those haha. i can try this year!

oh snaps. welp.. yeah they swamp up the DE river. so potentially any swamps around the DE river, i would start looking. anywhere bowfins are prolific, they would be there. but if anything you can fish down by trenton area or down further like philly area.

Glad you answered my questions in my head as I was watching the vid lol #1 when do they spawn in NJ and #2 when is a good time to target them ?

oh they spawn from late april all the way to september! but the question is when do they first bite via prespawn.. and that is exactly when bass start prespawning ;) around the time when bass gets off their beds, snakes starts to spawn more and more frequently. it really depends on how much forage and food and how warm water gets in a specific body of water. You will notice bowfins will spawn first around 60 degrees of water!

for frogging, I like a 7ft or longer casting rod. It needs to have a fast tip at least so it can set the hook well. I use MH, H or Extra Heavy (Mag Heavy) for my snakehead frogging as you need a strong hookset to penetrate their strong bite force. I use the Dobyns Sierra Casting SA-735-C

Can I use 20 lbs braided line? Or I have to use at least 30lbs?

20 lbs can be iffy as not every brand have the same diameter for 20 lbs. I would suggest 30 lbs minimum. I understand some folks like to use spinning gears. But I don't recommend it if you are frogging in cover. 20 lbs would be okay open water spring time tho. Just have Thicker leader!
