I’m 50, been around many mechanics and seen/used all brands of tools. I always enjoyed seeing younger mechanics take pride in their tools..doesn’t matter the brand, just seeing them keep their tools clean and organized. Tells me a lot about their work ethic…

I totally agree sir! I always say that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he takes care of his tools!

@Sid The sloth man I couldn't have broken that down any better!! I agree 100% man. I don't mind spending money in the big three (preferably matco & Snap-on) but I look at other alternatives first to see if what I need is worth the extra money off the tool truck. Sometimes, it's just no getting around certain tools. And sometimes (because I actually love what I do) i might just spend the money on something I just really want! But I have choices and that really important to understand

Harbor freight is way better than it used to be. But exactly right, a young guy getting it done however he can and no one can say anything about that, spend money where you have to not where you want to and one day you're there. Reminds me of the shitty old guitar no one could play, then one day a real musician picks it up and makes a beautiful sound.

I've got the same box, artic silver with blue trim. But added the work center, and locker. Been a diesel fleet mechanic for 20yrs. This kid could work out of this box for a decade plus. Have coworkers with 84" Epics that have the same collection of tools inside. Its all about organization. Love seeing the next generation of techs excited about their tools

Same box but even more tools so much so that i had to get an end locker and a mobile cart for my primary tools. For those of you saying i dont have enough tool truck tools, believe me, theres more, and 90% of its paid for except the box.

Very smart some drop big money on the tools then put them in a cheep boxs then When the shop gets broken into and somebody steals to tools at the box. You have to find out if ur shops insurance will cover it. So Always good to get a big safer than filled with the money later.

@EzTechJoe
@EzTechJoe Год назад
If you get almost half price on snap on tools. Be because you can find yourself in a trap.. people hear that and just go crazy with the spending and then STILL find themselves starting out in the business in depth owing the tools trucks.. my opinion, use that discount to get the high dollar things you NEED. Not to much, but your essentials. Only you would know what that is for the kind of tech you are or what you might be working on.. BUT whatever you get I wouldn't go over $1000. I would work around get a few things around that price range and pay it off WITHOUT adding on.. go get other affordable tools from Harbor Freight, Amazon, home depot along the way. You can't go wrong with icon tools, Quinn, Husky, and different other brands from Amazon like capri tools, Sunex Tools, Astro Pneumatic.... do your research on your different tools options. Techs come into the business just and limit themselves just on tool trucks and HF... but its wayyyy more options out there bro. Always research your options before you buy. Probably the best advice a fellow tech can give

@jaywelker5566
@jaywelker5566 Год назад
Nah. It's not 2003 anymore. HF has more than its fair share of good alternatives in addition to the usual low end Chinesium that anyone with half a brain could just easily ignore. ex: $5,000 for a SO 55" classic box vs an Icon 73" for $1500-$2k+ less. Easy choice for anyone who doesn't want to deal with 120 lb slides, plastic casters, substantially less storage and a much lighter frame rated for a pitiful 2400 lbs. 265 lb slides, nearly 900 lb net (vs 480), suspension casters, 35% more storage space. All that money saved goes towards loading up your bigger/heavier box with better tools. A good mechanic (and smart consumer) would be wise enough to look at all the options presented. Actual good mechanics can think for themselves. If you're just buying something because of logos or what's popular, you're an idiot. I'd definitely rather get power tools from HF before a SO/tool truck brand as well....though that's only in a world where Milwaukee, Makita and Dewalt don't exist. HF cordless power tools are still a tough sell otherwise. But still not as bad as SnapOn where they sell mid-torques that are weaker than M12 stubbies for $400+ and only offer 1-2 years warranty...lol........
@Jameswest1687
@Jameswest1687 Год назад
This is the Best example of what not to do as a new mechanic instead of buying a $10,000 box and filled it with $500 worth of Harbor Freight Tools I implore you please do the opposite buy a $500 toolbox from Harbor Freight and fill it $10,000 worth of tools from Snap-on.
